I recall that Nawaz Sharif’s government tried to “invade the Supreme Court building in the nineties. I did not follow Pakistani politics at that time. Media does not talk about PML(noon)’s mistake now a days. Can someone explain what lead to that incident?

If it was an intimidation of Supreme institution, did Nawaz brothers repent for their mistakes? Certainly the political jail time or exile to the holy land does not wash such sins. What kind of guarantees the nation has that these leaders or their “chaylas will not repeat such “juggaism again?

Also, can someone point to other Nawaz government’s gross abuse of power with facts?

    Dear Neutral!!

I am extremely sorry to point out to you the fact that we as a nation have extremely short memory span. My condition is a bit like yours in this regard as I also did not follow politics at the time of NS Government. But what I do remember is that the turmoil and the dis-satisfaction in society was nowhere near what it is today. Although Nawaz did make blatant mistakes, atleast he was elected by people as opposed to Musharraf who literally stole the power and has refused to share it with the peoples’ representatives, i.e the parliamernt, ever since. In saying this, I am in no way trying to defend NS’s mistakes rather highlighting the horrendous nature of Musharraf’s regime. What i am trying to say is that a democratic government is always better than a dictatorship no matter what.

The real problem with dictatorship and the loss of democracy lies in the very fact that had the process of democracy been allowed to take its course unchecked since 1988 in this country, the people themselves would have flushed out corrupt and inefficient leaders like benazir and nawaz sharif. Due to the intervention of the millitary a vacuum in the leadership of pakistan was created and we are now stuck with the same people again and again.

For new and better leadership, what we need is real democracy not only in the political system but also inside the political parties.

In this forum, any body tell me what does Democracy means?
60 years gone, we talk about democracy ….
We need revolution and not democracy.

I am sure no body can give me the right answer about democracy within the state of Pakistan.
It is easy to talk, democracy, democracy, but what is democracy????

    Mr. kurkosmici

    What crap!!!!!

Democracy doesnt have an exact definition. It varies with every system. Roughly it comes under this…”Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives”.
    Did it help?

and by the way exactly what revolution are you talking about? Revolution is an even more vague term than democracy

    Hamza…..you seems a decent and educated man….this whats crap,did it help and so on…dont suit s you…

Democracy is not diffrent from state to state…Democracy has 4 main elements which has to be in every democratic country.
    They are:

    1. A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections.

    2. The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life.

    3. Protection of the human rights of all citizens.

    4. A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.

None of them is exist in our country….so the meaning of democracy is dead…

    Thank you for your undestanding.

thanx for enlightening us from ur infinite wisdom mr-know-it-all by giving us a text book definition of what democracy is… i agree to one thing that there is no democracy in the country… but now when we see a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel people like u are praying for a freight train…. glass is half full not half empty… give a hand when the country needs it save ur criticism for later…

    @kurk
sorry mate if u felt bad about my comments. Its just that i dont think revolution is the answer for anything. Revolution means a rapid change but i dont think there are any means or leadership for that in Pakistan. What we need is a steady shift towards democracy and evolution of good leadership. And if we do lose our hopes in our country then there is no point being loyal to it.

    I see great hope

P.S: We should stop acting like kids
