300% is the ave, on basic stuff it has gone above by 500%, a roti of Rs. 1.50 is now hovering around Rs. 5-6 from tandoor. It was widely reported a few months ago in details with various reports. Same for other basic commodities
This guy can be head of a corporation, not a leader of a nation. His role in pakistan is a showboy of Generl Musharaf, with no powers whatsoever. It is such a shame that he reports to an army chief who should be reporting to him….. What a crap….Thanks to General Musharaf this is what they call “real democracy” (democracy my ass)
Banta, “a roti of Rs. 1.50 is now hovering around Rs. 5-6 from tandoor”. I can’t say it is a valid example because there hasn’t been a decline in sales of tandoor roti’s; infact the lines are longer.
I’m not against your views, but I am trying to understand your figures.
A driver that made 3,500 RS 10 years ago is now making 6,000 (personal chaufer example). If he bought 60 Roti’s per month, it meant 2.5% of his income. With the price being RS 5 and he is making 6,000 that means 5%.
That is a 2.5% relative price increase. Maybe you are right, I would have to look at the over all pictures of someone’s exact income figures and spend on each item.
ahmed, Wooo. What a way to explain inflation. No doubt how this wizard Banker is impressing you. But ask someone who is making 6000 or even 10000 to make a decent living.
I dont know why Govt always say about mobile. Every one in Pak has 3-4 mobiles or may be more. He says 6 cror.
I think Shaukat Aziz should thank GOD that he is PM.
This is the guy, who in collusion with Mush, charged the Chief Justice with a mala-fide based accusation. Both of these fellows had conspired to impose a dictator upon Pakistan, which they thought would go smoothly if CJ were not there. For me, the greatest problem that he has is “CREDIBILITY”. He is an actor with no conscience.
As with economic aspect, it will require a book to explain both the monetary and fiscal policies. I do not believe the statements either by opposition or government. There are reports widely available on the web and libraries that are published by UN, IMF, WB. Just put one of these three words in google, followed by the word Pakistan, and either of these words, such as inflation, poverty, “failed state”, index [of countries where Pakistan stands], education, demoralization of army, corruption of army. Read or read about the widely acclaimed book by Aisha, “Military Incâ€?, on the web to find who is the master of Pakistan. If you need article, input the word ‘research’.
For me, the role of an individual for a country is limited one. This is the system [democracy combined with free market economy] that in the long run brings respect and prosperity to a nation. The era of dictatorship is gone. We, the democratic forces in Pakistan, will fight to the end until we get back our soil for its sons and daughter, until we get an opportunity through a democracy to gradually filter corruption, and finally bring only one type of people who are patriotic, for whom the country is supreme, where the lives of those who sell Pakistan to others become unbearable, where those who worship the abrogators of our beloved constitution are mercilessly disgraced and punished. That is the dawn we all look forward and work courageously.
If there can be a democracy in a country like Sri Lanka since their independence on 1948, India, many countries in South America and Africa, why Pakistan, who was founded by a highly educated person can not get one. Those who claim that Pakistanis are not capable of democracy are themselves incapable and the cause for the continuation of the dictatorship. We will fight against them. Please support any politician whom your gut tell you to be against dictatorship whether he is Imran, NS or any one even if the person is half corrupt. First bring democracy and then kick out gradually the corrupt one. The right as to who is corrupt and honest lies in the people through the exercise of their democratic rights, not a few general or in secret meetings between civil and military junta.
Down with the dictatorship
Long Live democracy,
Long Live Pakistan
Do you know how serious we are, how seriously serious we are, how seriously seriously serious we are multiply it to infinity, that we have to read seriously illogical and seriously twisted and seriously deranged arguments by our seriously serious Banta and his support of his seriously immoral and seriously superficial and seriously ignorant Shair-e-Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.
PakistanUncut you seriously have to suffer the serious consequences
Shaukat Aziz has no mandate. He does not represent any party in a party based elections. I wonder, PML(Q), established in 1999, in 3 years could not find a person who could truly represent a district, a city or even a village. He feels no responsibilitybecause he has no authority at all. The dumb politicians watched him become the Prime Minister out of nowhere just because of full authoritated dictator. He has actually no role in the politics becaus ehe is nobody. he does not represent even Pakistan, it is so hard to listen to him.
main saab, shaukat aziz is Strategic assets of pakistan, its easy to make comments sitting at home, but its hard to make decisions for 160 millions people of pakistan, if you are living in uk (as you said “long live pakistan, anthem of england@)just like me,,, you must be aware, there is a huge financial crisis around the world..
Jappan injected 1 trillion Yens in national bank.
European uninion banks in $60 billions
Bank of Amercia invested $200 billions
Austrialian and Asean also investmeting in their national banks, just to balance the financial stablity of country..
its really hard to know these world croocks, and we need people who know what going on around the world, He used to be country manager in world bank..i repeat country manager, he left his jobs because of pakistan, n now we are critsising him, developments takes time and support, which he dont have so far..
i am working in HSBC and living in UK but planning to Come back in pakistan with optimisim, if someone have knowledge we should admir and repect these people, otherwise all pakistani cream will run toward USA, CANNDA, UK or Austrlia..
I don’t think we were any worse than the current situation. The poor population ( 70 percent of people) are living worse than in 1999. The failed state index is the only thing that has improved for Pakistan. I don’t think most of you know that through stock markets, only 0.01 percent ( 1 out of 10,000) of the people are controlling the market, and the low investors usually lose their money due to the bad games of the big investors.
He says that income has been increased by 15 percent in the last 5 years, this is shear lie. I know the exact figures by how much amount the income increased.
The economy he is talking about was good for himself only not to the countrymen.
I agree with some of you that he is a good economist and should be finance minister but not our main leader. He lacks the skill to stand up to Musharaf.
Shaukat aziz is the genius behind pakistans economic revival. he is the smartest prime minister since liakat.
unfortunately, he is not a politician. he was the vice president of citibank private banking. but the good thing is, he is not a corrupt fuedal like NS or chaudries or all the other pakistani politicians.
and as for the economy, i said it before as well, anyone who says this man didnt deliver on the economy simply doesn’t understand economics. Pakistan was economically and financially a failed state in 1999. was going to go bankrupt and default had things contintued. this govt. turned it around, and, now ALMOST ALL aspects of the economy have performed BRILLIANTLY under this govt. (all but a FEW) and i have a degree in economics, and, i studied a lot about the economic situation of pakistan, so ill say it again, anyone who gives any lame examples or arguments agaisnt it, simply doesnt know econ.
as for inflation and price rises, yes its a fact, and its a reality. but one must understand inflation hpns everywhere, all the time, only the rate differs, and inflation is high in all booming economies. and our inflation isnt terribly bad either. there are MANY MANY countries that have much much worse inflation.
the problem is poverty, because we’re so poor (and someone said 90% are poor, that’s not true, its less than 90% poverty) we’re so poor, even Rs. 5 for roti seems a lot. we can’t absorb it. and someone said, ordinary people dont care if the reserves are a $100 bn. dollars. well its easy to say, but when you are a poor country with 160 million people to take care of, the job isnt exactly easy.
the ONLY REAL SOLUTION is to reduce poverty, so people can absorb inflation and price rises. and keep in mind, prices in pakistan are no way near intl. levels. very low. and when the country isnt poor, it can provide for its citizens (health, education etc) who are 160 million!!! and the people can themselves live comfortably and absorb inflation. the problem is to completely eradicate povery and make us a high or mid income country will take decades of high economic growth and development, takes a lot of time. look at india, china, do they have no poverty? they do, perhaps even more than us. if we don’t we will keep getting crushed in this world, things will CONTINOUSLY keep going worse every year. the only solution, thats why its of utmost importance
and even strategically, in todays global world, the only real power is money, india (or any other powerful economy) can crush us financially in the future without firing a single gun and send us down to the stone age. we need a strong economy, like salman shah said, it should be our strategic priority no. 1 to grow (fast and) faster than india
these two reasons maek this aspect very important. sadly, most people overlook this
i am going to vote for shaukat aziz, he is not like those feudals, he is more sincere, not jsut a power hungry cheater, and he did something great for the country.
right now, musharraf may have all the power, but mush is a soldier, he doesnt know business, aziz was his financial brains. and even if he isnt PM, he should atleast be finance/commerce minister and maybe even deputy prime minister
Thanks for loading KK, please upload his show everyday
(Actually, this was an interview with the PM, but KK is very good on his normal shows where he analyses daily political developments. Very analytical, very impartial and nuetral)
@ Eddie - you’ve basically said everything exactly the way I thought of saying it. Very well said!
I would also vote for Shaukat Aziz. Incomes have risen as well and the buying power of the public has too. A simple example is majority of people that would have been paid 10,000 RS month, they are now being paid over 50,000!
Banking jobs have never been better, even women are employeed at high posts with very good salaries.
People that are so concenred about minimum wages should raise the salaries of their employees and house works by 10% each year, certainly that would not make a dent in their life styles.
By the way, you guys need to focus on someone other than Mush for a change. The Pakistani public is such a cry baby all the time wanting to pull someones nickers. BB and NS are the worst leaders our country has ever seen. They are both corrupt and should never be allowed to return.
He is a puppet of Mush. A dummy PM brought from US to run a fake democracy. Now if he has some knowledge about banking or finance than give him a job related to his credentials. How can he be a PM? I am also a good engineer so can I send my resume to Mush to become PM of Pakistan.
shukat bhai ky tu din ginny ja chukay hain …
inko hukumat chalany nahin ….mush ky agay peechay hunay ky paisay milty hain…
he is not good for anything…
no use of calling him from US CITIBANK ,if he is doing our ATTA DAL mehnga…
i was thinking he is a serious an dsober person….but
unfortunately i was wrong!!!!!!!!!
We should give the guy his due. Shaukat Aziz has been vital for the economic revival of Pakistan, mainly due to fiduciary policies.
What’s more important, I liked the fact that he mentioned the continuance of the policies instituted in his tenure. We need to ensure that happens with whoever is at the helm of the finance Ministry in the years to come.
Remember Shaukat Aziz is a TECHNOCRAT, not a traditional orator politician. Pakistan has the ability to become an Economic Powerhouse in the future. Some of you might recall that in 60’s many asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea adopted the Pakistani Economic 5-yr plans and they are reaping the benefits of sustained economic policies today. It is Dr. Mehboob-ul-Haq… if I am not mistaken, back then who was the economic truck driver of Pakistan.
On a side note, however, the new book out by Condi Rice, does’nt mention PM Shaukat Aziz in an enviable way. It says that our Prime Minister is fairly “over-confident” about his ability to impress the ladies, and that one such occasion arose while he was in a meeting with Condi. and that Condi scolded him for this “unconventional behavior”.
The last time I visited Pakistan… I was hoping to see a change.. And I saw a change; things went from bad to worst… the traffic on roads was dreadful the prices were higher then ever before… it seemed so chaotic that it felt like everything will come to a deadloack and collapse… obviously people with “personal chauffeurs” or living in their bid daddy’s pocket are blind to these truths, they dont feel these changes and they only belong to 5% of the Pakistani community; yes they may have gained something from our PM… but the common man of Pakistan face these problems everyday his life is worst then ever… if Shauket Aziz has really breathed life in the economy of Pakistan then why is it hidden? where is it??? why hasn’t it made any difference in an average man’s life? why are prices so high then ever before?? why is there unemployment in our country so high??? why young professionals want to catch westerly winds???
This guy knows how to talk he even loves the sound of his voice… but a common man doesnt understand the dynamics of economy; he needs to see and feel a difference in his life… I see our government from top to bottom as a failure… I see this speech as a facade to reality… I suggest to the all Pakistani to step out of their cars and walk the streets.. you will come to know….
Pakistan needs to stop reproducing like rabbits. No one can improve the ‘common’ man’s condition, mark my word even by 2050. We are ridding on a wave of growth momentum and with the population growth rate like this there is no way things will get better. There are already 100 million extra people in Pakistan. The poor man will continue to dye of hunger or sucide or homicide or disease (natural population control) and when population drops things will get better by then it will be at least 2050.
A comparison between the prices prevalent in 1999 under Nawaz Sharif rule and those prevailing in the sixth year of General Musharraf’s rule. It would amply demonstrate the facts as they exist, and we invite general Musharraf to have a look at the true image of his claims:-
ITEMS October 1999 February 2005 Percentage Rise
Flour Rs.8.00 per kg Rs.15.00 per kg 90%
Rs.17.00 ” in NWFP
Bread Rs.1.50 Rs.3.00 100%
Sugar Rs.18.00 per kg Rs.28 per kg 50%
Tea Rs.180.00 per kg Rs.280.00 per kg 56%
Ghee Rs.54.00 per kg Rs.79.00 per kg 50%
Milk Rs.18 - 24 per liter Rs.24 - 33 per liter 33%
Milk Powder Rs.140.00 per kg Rs.190.00 per kg 36%
Mutton Rs.110.00 per kg Rs.220.00 per kg 100%
Beef Rs.60.00 per kg Rs.120.00 per kg 100%
Gas bill Rs.100.00 average Rs.240.00 average 140%
Elect. Bill Rs.100.00 average Rs.250.00 average 150%
Medicines Rs.100.00 average Rs.160.00 average 60%
Petrol Rs.24.04 per lit. Rs.42.46 per lit. 60%
Diesel Rs.9.65 per lit. Rs.27.23 per lit. 200%
Kerosene Rs.9.50 per lit. Rs.27.04 per lit. 200%
Urea Rs.280.00 per bag Rs.435.00 per bag 50%
DAP Rs.650.00 per bag Rs.1050.00 per bag 60%
Cement Rs.170.00 per bag Rs.250.00 per bag 50%
Iron Bars Rs.16000.00 per ton Rs.34000.00 per ton 110%
Bricks with
Cartage Rs.1300 per thousand Rs.3100 per thousand 135%
School and college fees, and prices of text books and stationary have also risen by 100 percent, while five major universities of the country have increased their fees by as much as 400 percent. Public transport fares have been increased by 40 to 100 percent. Prices of chilly, spices, cereals, rice, detergent, shoes and cloth have registered an average rise of 80 percent, while gradual devaluation of the rupee has cut down its purchasing power by 20 percent.
Now don’t try to tell me that this is normal inflation and salaries have increased so much that no one bothers abt inflation.

Excellent! No way on earth can NS ever be so articulate about the economy. Shaukat Aziz is awesome!
August 28th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
Shaukat is excellent talker.
Ground reality is total opposite. Food prices have increased 300% in Mush rule along with every daily need item.
90% of awam is poor and they don’t care if you have $100 billion in foreign reserves.

Wonder what you think about that ?
