What a bundle of lies these politicians are!! What interest do Saudis have to pry in Pakistan’s affairs? Of course, the government would have gone grovelling and begging to come to the rescue. Very disgusting, this whole affair! Moreover, Saudi Arab is a country, its not Ka’aba itself (though it does house ka’aba) What I mean to say is that they are treating Saudis as if they are angels sent by Allah and whatever they say should be fulfilled.
I do not like these talks of any future understanding between PMLQ and PMLN. If NS succumbs to that then he too, like Benazir, will prove to have not learned form his mistakes. I have been supporting all along the concept of democratic elections and letting whoever wins come to power (as long as we manage to get the system running and manage to get rid of Musharraf). However, these people, BB and NS, seem to be going back to their old tactics of intrigues, lies, under handed deals etc. I hope and pray they stay sane and at least for once in their lives, true to some principles. If PPP strikes a deal with Mush and if PMLN and PMLQ combine, this is gonig to be antoher sad chapter in the history of Pakistan and I think we will never ever survive after that.
I guess the wisest move NS could have made was to come the next day after the court’s verdict. In the heat of the moment, he would have managed to get tremendous reception and also the government would not have time to do any intrigues. The most they could have done would have been to put him in jail and in anything, that would have turned him into a bigger hero. The whole situation was not handled well by the PMLN. They missed a big opportunity.
A big lesson to the politicians by doing favortism and promoting their personal choices… Politicians must learn from one biggest mistake…NEVER INTERFERE IN ARMY PROMOTIONS AND IN BUREAUCRACY.
Breaucrates are government servents and worked all their life with small salary (compare to the politicians) and wait for their promotions on seniority basis…but politicians come for only 5 years (our PM did not rule more than 3 years ) and promoted generals of their own for their own interest.
A lesson for Politicians: NEVER FINGER IN BUREAUCRACY
Hey I didn’t know that if you break a promise you can be extradited. Ch Sahib is funny.
Even if there was an agreement between Nawaz and Saudi Arabia and there was BREACH of that agreement the proper course should have been that Saudi Govt should filed a petition for the enforcement of that contract. Every one should have been given the opportunity to represent themselves and explained their point of view. you can not by force enforce the contract. As per Amel Kansi issue he was wanted in US for an offence. I didn’t know breach of promise is an offence in this country. Had it been the case Pakistan would have been empty by now as most of us would have been extradited.
What happened yesterday is a sad day for us.Morality is above the law Acc to CH Sahib. As a student of law I know law has nothing to do with morality.We are responsible to Allah Almighty for our morals and to our selves too but not to people in power, people who don’t even know what morality. who themselves have not abide by principles of morality. In our country theses days US is important, Saudi arabia is important,a bunch of army people are important and few politicians who are serving the interest of these above mentioned categories are important. Its only the people of Pakistan and the rule of law which is not important.
God Please help this nation
I won’t disagree with you Aneeza & i am not that big ov a fan ov NS anyway but he has done a lot for our Country along with for himself… The only thing that iz jolting my mind in presence ov fear & embarassment iz that watever iz happening if we look at the most important issue at this present time which for all the apparent n non apparent reasons have become so subliminal that it has almost disintegrated iz the factor that wat if in the future if any ov the establishment in this case the Supreme Court takes a decision (Nobody knows elaborately on wat bases it allowed NS to come back as there r controversies n perplexities on that decision made)& that decision iz neglected followed by actions taken ov watever the goverment (Musharaf in this case) desires ov for itself & goes against the Supreme Court decision than in the future anyone can do such ‘dadagiree’ & wat actions can be taken to prosecute if that dadagiree iz done by the goverment itself…??? You know wat i am sayin… I am so shocked & i am sittin here in UK thinkin wat the hell iz goin on where iz our Nation & people at this point to protest & raise this issue ov the Sovereignty ov this State… Y iz our people bein so neglegent on this matter n y r they not raisin questions…??? Y can’t they get off their couches & go n vote for the true representatives ov our desires & prospectful future ov Pakland…??? There r some people like Imran Khan who r the beacon ov hope for this country who keeps such bright ideas for breakin the chain ov this hypocrissy & incompetency ov our Politics n any other areas… Who iz doin so much personally & provin that he iz the person who iz practically executin wat this country wants… I mean i am literally pissed off when i see the so called pop leaders bein so ridiculously inpersistent in their statements n actions… They r such a bad example for futue goverments as in the future any goverment would do somethin wrong & say we r doin cuz ov this n that or no we r not doin anythin like that & after the passage ov time they would contradict their own statements n actions n would accept watever they were denyin ov in the first place… This iz a complete Disorder not only in our leadership but in US as a Muslim State…
The Solution iz to Rise… We r a Country ov great Intelligence & Competence… We can Rise n when We would it will all change… There are some people to look upon & followed on… We just need to open our Minds & eyes to read between the lines…
As long as the intrusion ov USA in our issues iz concern i think we should go in front ov their media n say “Mind your own Freakin Business & Get out of our Country… Your so called strategies against the threats ov terrorism n all that crap iz so hollow n iz an insult to an intelligence ov even a 5 year old… Incidents ov 911 & even before that it was all planned & it was all a screen saver, a smoke screen, a delusion in front ov a bigger picture which we all know wat it iz… You had no right for any ov the wars you did… You’re a two faced snake that slithers in the darkest den ov mankind… Buzz off…”
my dears chudri is now nothing. if chudri will die then he even will ask from Mushi that should i die?. We should all respect of Kaa,ba and we will respect insha ALLAH but saudi govt is not now respectable for us bcoz now he is doing wrong game. He is also partner with musharraf. before yesterday i thaught saudi govt is very good with pakistan but now i undrstand that. I appeal to Saudi govt that plz plz plz we all respect you so dont come in this case and return us our Leader. Note I am not in PML N but now Nawaz sharif is our leader. he is now leader od Pakistani people not only leader of PML N. Mushi will pay price for this.
I think Hamid Mir was not biased. He very pointedly asked questions and put down Saad Rafiq as well as Chaudhry Shujaat. As for Saleem Bukhari, he was a thorough analyst. In fact, so non plussed was he that I was inwardly boiling at him for taking only an analysts view point. No, I did not find them biased. Bukhari, in fact, in some instaces was appreciating Chaudhry’s past actions.

We, educated Pakistanis in the UK, have decided to protest in front of Saudi Embassy during this weekend.
we need to wake up people against these unHOLY fathers of religion.
I will keep you updated. These uneducated, Jubba wearing Baddus have insulted Pakistani Constitution, Supreme Court and are dictators supported by International Mafia.
Good decision Kami! In addition, we need to write letters to the editor in international press, slamming Saudis for abducting a democratic Pakistani leader.
All Muslims have repect for the land of Hijaz where our holy places are. But I have no respect or regard for the Saudi royals who have no regard for democratic norms.
Even if we accept that you acted on the force of the letter (and particularly the hadith you mentioned) that led you all to take action agaist NS, the question I have for you is this: what do you have to say about Musharraf’s breaking of promise on uniorm in the year 2004? Will the force of this hadith apply to your gneral?
The only people who can save Pakistan are the lawyers. Politcal leaders and workers are spinless, lacking the spirit of sacrifice for their cause.
If PMLN leaders and workers were sincere they would have showed up at the airport 24 hours ahead of time, like the lawyers used to do. Raja Zafarul Haq, Ch Nisar were sitting in their air-conditioned home for the police to show up, and for the press to take their pictures.
The lawyers will have to take the lead now, and public should follow their lead.
@Kruman
I understand your frustration at the leaders of a certain political party( I have no affiliations). I too am guilty of this as I stayed at home to watch things unfold
on this website.
Kamran Abbasi despairingly in his last program addressed the issue of going out on the streets for your rights. (The people calling him kept repeating what the politians were doing instead of actually taking into account what kamran was asking). It is sad as you and I are genuinely for the good of the country but fail to come to the streets because of fear to get shot, beaten or maybe not affected as much by the situation. Do you really think we love the country enough? sometimes…. I question that
@general readers
most of you in your comments have something to say about each and every politician. As george galloway said in one of his speech “politicians need you more than you need them”.
Most talk of a revolution. Revolutions are not easily brought about. The prototype taught in schools ie french revolution was as bloody as one could be. For that to happen, we the middle class should have our rights trampled collectively eg a famine, mass injustice, countrywide unemployment. I have for a long time been proposed to one as I see and read one injustice (social or political after another) after another.
will it take a rape of your closed one, shooting of your friend or maybe the incessant cries of hunger of your child to make you go out to the street. The answer is “no”. WHY?
read arundati roy’s sanfrancisco speech
“Public Power in the Age of Empire”. I wanted to highlight the importance of her mention of NGO’S filling the gap of government apathy. Coming back to the question of revolt, your injustice will be assuaged by the ngo and you wont create a hue and cry( i am in no way against any ngo’s). Hence for a real revolution there must be 1 mass infringement on our rights 2 the sudden appearance of a charismatic (nonpolitical) leader (che guevara or maybe you?) 3 the pent up anger to go to the streets with nothing to lose(ie job, car, house, dignity)
For those who don’t support any brutal upheaval the best next thing would be to bring about change through “land reforms” which were partially brought about in india 1948(correct me if i am wrong). That way the rural feudal will not have the land to influence the people to vote for him.
admin forgive me as a i am a new poster although a frequent visitor…pent up issues
lastly we need to realize if actually we are a republic or a democracy?
many will laugh at my question at this point of time….agreeable

please tell me if we were are a democracy or republic..if convinced republic then your answers lie in the constitution…follow the constitution and the rule of law will prevail. which constitution you say? 1973 flawed yes but nonetheless the only one to work with…If a leader comes up in Pakistan (and this is an idea to you reader) saying that the only thing he or she will do is follow the constitution 1973 without amendments and educate the people regarding it…viola there you have it…change in Pakistan…because all this nonsense of articles and amendments done later give moral ground to not only to the ruling govt but also the other cronies…please disagree and let me know

It was refreshing to hear Saad Rafiq confess the political wrong doings of the past especially PMLN’s relationship with Gen Zia. But the actions of his party speak against his words for example the recent wellcoming of turncoats from PMLQ into N league fold.
@shahid kinnare
Jang group is perhaps the best you could get in urdu print media in the present post cold war capitalist era. Nawai e Waqt and Khabarain are obvious non starters.
@libartian & others
As Faiz put it so eloquently “Hum pey mushtarka hain ahsan ghum e ulfat key”.
To get ourselves out of the mess that we find ourselves trapped in we have to consistently support the democratic forces by all means. The ideal of ‘demcracy’ is like the fabled princess,to reach her you have to cross the tempestuous seas and parched deserts and climb high mountains and when you get her you have to jealously guard her. Democracy would not be presented to us in a silver plate. Its absence means we have not strived enough for it because it cannot be denied to people who really want it and also it cannot be taken away if we jealously guard it.
In my opinion the era of all embrassing(socio-economic,politico-cultural) revolutions has passed, the omnipresent capitalistic institutions including the media do not allow the pressure of pent up feeling to rise high enough to allow the inciting of a revolution. The only other choice is people backed political revolution like the Ukrainian Orange revolution which does not frontally attacks the socio-cultural fabric of the society.
I never liked Jang Group bacause it always played in the hands of establishment. Then came the GEO TV it gained reputation of a fair channel though the tilt was always in favour of Government. During this ‘fair play’ GEO always acted as a private channel of Altaf Hussain, as this facist party is always in headlines. During the movement of lawyers and civil society media played a very positive role and i must say so did GEO TV. i thought that the channel is no more getting dictation from establishment both civil and armed will be playing a very positive and healthy role in future. then came horrible and most regrettable episode of LAL MASJID, GEO TV spent no time in changing the tone and becoming a spokes tool for a barbaric and cruel, inhuman dictatorship. And now at a time when presidential and parlimentary elections are just days ahead GEO TV has adopted a realy shamful approach. by no means it can be called a private channel and People like HAMID MIR and DR SHAHID whom i respect a lot, until now, have gone back to the payroll of IB and ISI and I think Kamran Khan is already enrolled there. I request GEO TV people to take a second and think if the country owe these people anything. If not please change channel name to ‘GEO MUSHARRAF TV’
