BBC reports that Washington is exploring alternate courses in Pakistan as Musharraf’s powers have weakened.
Experts say that there is a sense in Washington that Pakistan is going through a period of political transition and that Gen Musharraf needs greater popular legitimacy in order to muster grassroots support for the US counter-terrorism agenda.
There’s a growing realisation that the US must not only have a partnership with Gen Musharraf and the army but also have a partnership with the people of Pakistan.

The elections in USA are coming near, and it seems that this time again the war in terror will be the main issue. But I doubt, that republicans will be able to convince the american people to vote for them. Nevertheless, America will require stability within Afghanistan region while it prepares to take troops out of Iraq. I think that USA will definitely take troops out of Iraq and perhaps the decisive action would be taken by the new government. It would require atleast two years for phased withdrawal which sounds practical. During this time America would require stability in Afghanistan region.
Thus US would support the “stability” in Pakistan it actually wants. You might see Musharraf in some form at the top but there might be other formidable players too like Bhutto and the Sharif brothers. Inorder to win the support of people of pakistan, it would go with popular support as it always has done in the past. As the popular sentiment takes its offensive against musharraf it also has started to withdraw from musharraf.
For the next two three years we might see a transition government setup in Pakistan that is based on a tripod understanding of PPP, PML-N and Musharraf. The fact that the other two players are coming in to the equation is because the activism of judiciary, the even of Lal masjid, and the US pressure for more liberal forces in Pakistan. Lal-masjid issue is relevant with respect to PML-N. US will try to diffuse the voter base of MMA (the religious right) by promoting PML-N that has historically taken the religious right votes in the past. The umbrella of APDM is meant to give him a leverage in this matter.
The people in west are now pretty sure that there is no peaceful for Musharaf to hold the two offices, and we the pakistanis are already clear of that. Hence, Musharraf should better think of a good exit strategy for himself so that his and army’s image is saved in the end.

If US tries to muster support for a PPP-Musharraf setup only without the involvement of PML-N especially (APDM) then it might harm the transition process. The ouster of a national leader at this critical juncture might harm this process. I beleive that the PML-Q is infact not as united right now as PML-N. There are many factions within it. If musharraf’s covalent bonds are removed from within this molecular compound then people would be flying to either ppp or pml-n. Arguably one might see by-products such as pml-shujaat or pml-chaudhrys. I think still there two major poltical parties in Pakistan = PPP and PML-N.

It is the usual story, the new-CON Illuminati culture of the American politicians(not all) just gets more and more vicious by the day. They will only end after they have achieved world domination and to do that they first need to get rid of or at least destabilize the only religion that will never accept their ways and principals. This religion has the power to rebel because we are slaves to only one supreme being worthy of our slavery and that is Allah (SWT)
You never know how many more 9/11s they will create and other false flags are they going to use as pre-texts for needless wars. The only pity is that despite knowing all this no one can stand in their way as people are not united.
I hope that Pakistan InshAllah will not comply with these neo-Con Americans like Iraq did against Iran in the Gulf war ,brother killing brother and human killing human just for motives of these dirty templars from the crusades.

@ Ahmad Chaudhry
I like your analysis. My only fear is Musharraf not calling it quits. He is one of those power hungry maniacs who want all the cake.

Eddie,
I think you just proved my point concerning their subconscious control:). Yes you are right we should not give a damn but still who are they to plan things like these and get away with it. It may be ok with some but not quite with others.

America is nobody’s friend. America requires conscience sellers to meet their goals. Anybody popular with America will not have popular support in his/her country. No other leader in Pakistan can give America the support they want. America works for nobody but themselves. Nawaz or Benazir cannot deliver even a sizable fraction of what Musharaf delivered. America has the reputation of using people and dumping them the world over.

America is a huge war machine and Corporates make money when there is war. The political structure higher up is made to suit this. Leaders are elected/selected accordingly who ensure the system continues. America does not go to war region. America creates a war region.

Some politicians claimed that Gen Mush has bought a palace in Istanbul where he will run away. This was later endorsed by some journalists/columnists. One of them, very senior journalist - Abbas Athar - claimed that it is an authentic news that Gen Mush’s friend has bought (most likely as a front man) a palace.
And as far its price, someone has claimed that most expensive house on planet is $155 dollar in Montana. He missed the $160 (£80) million worth house in central london bought by Lakshmi Mittal 3 years ago (its recent estimate is near $200 million). And it is just a big house.
Another friend has rightly pointed out that above are houses whereas Gen Mush or his front man must have bought a massive palace (they usually come with acres of lands and have plenty of houses in side for the servants).

@Eddie
Your right eddie. In Pakistan we beleive a “little” too much in conspiracy theories. About any issue, in Pakistan you have three points of views(pov) i.e. the proposition pov, the opposition pov and the conpiracy pov. Nevertheless….
I did some digging into some matters myself. That is, the deal or understanding whatever people are calling this between musharraf and bhutto seems to have been brokered by a lahore based businessman Iqbal Z. Ahmed who is the founder of Associated group of companies in Pakistan. He has the largest quota of some sort of LPG production. This quoata was given to him by the bhutto government. Now he is some bigshot. In alliance with a Texas( I smell busharraf) based company Excelsior(dont know the correct spelling) he has setup up a project called GasPort that was inaugrated by Musharraf recently. It is supposed to do the gassification of LNG/LPGs that are imported on sea i.e. inside vessels than on land because its expensive to do it on land as in the infrasturucture is costly. I really dont mind musharraf and bhutto going together, but the way they are doing it that is despeccable.

Let their be all new faces, instead of Mian,BB and Musharraf.
BB has already been tried twice, everyone knows, what she did, notto mention about Asif Zardari.Nawaz has the same story like BB,both should be banned from entering politics.Let us try to bring all new faces, who are educated, honest and competent enough to run the affairs of the country.

@ Aneeza
Musharraf might after re-election not quit. He would try to stay chief. But I think the important question now is that how much is army supportive of Musharraf? Well in case of Ayub the army was far away from him, so he had to quit. Now I think is the situation different, well a few months ago it was different. If the army doesnt fall behind as it did in Ayub’s case, then Musharraf might have a good chance of staying on even as a civilian president.
