PEMRA and Information Ministry Meeting in Progress

Geo TV is reporting that a meeting is currently in progress between Information Ministry and PEMRA that will devise new rules for Electronic Media.

    I just heard on GEO TV that emergency has been imposed in Pakistan. This means issuance of new ordinances by President General Pervaiz Musharraf and unlimited powers to President.
    Moreover, it can be for the oath taking of Judges under PCO.

    Private channels transmission throughout Pakistan have been blocked till further notice.

    BBC News: Emergency announced. All private channels gone off air.

    It is a good news for democracy. Musharraf should announce Martial Law as well because this will be death of Establishment for good.

    I hope that Musharraf keeps on discrediting generals and thus we know how bad Martial law is for Pakistan. I think this is the last emergency and Martial law. As Aitzaz Ahsan says: ‘this is a weak Musharraf and not the same we had 8 years ago’.

    Altaf Hussain asked Rabta committe yesterday to be ready to explain to Awam (public) the reasons behind any unusual step (emergency). I hope that this will be used against MQM in future when they will beg against any such action and we would remind them about their support for emergencies ‘in the past’.
