good analysis. I think IK move of not submitting the papers will force other opposition parties, excluding PPP and Fazal group, to take a strong stand for restoration of judiciary.
Your analysis is realistic. One more point: MQM boycotted some elections in the past and it only helped MQM to lauch a campaign and discredit Karachi government while retaining most/all of its seats.
Zia was very strong in 1985 so a boycott had different effect. A boycott now will mark the end of present set up.
I think PML N should focus on two issues if they want to fight these elections
1. Law and Order &
2. Price Hike (Mehngai)
On these two issues, Q league will not be able to argue effectively. PML N can be very successful if it tell the public that the criminals were protected by Chaudhries of Gujrat (ask some people off the record and they will give you proof). PML N should start contacting people who can give them details.
Q league will be blown away but people need to be reminded again and again about the price hike and great number of robberies and murders. Chaudhries and Co are involved in Atta Scandal as well and most of the criminals were given support. First time in Punjab people felt as helpless as they were in Karachi (mobile, cars were robbed in a record number).
Excellent analysis, especially the point about breaking the ranks of Q league, allowing the lotas to re-join PPP and N league, and then deciding afterwards whether to boycott the elections or not. However, it seems the Q league lotas returning to other parties must have tremendous confidence in the respective oppositon parties not to boycott the elections for them to return. This is a disturbing development.
Additionlly, Imran Khan, though having taken a principled stand, has once again exhibited his political immaturity.
Kami’s point is thought provoking. The reality obviously is that whilst the intelligencia is fundamentally concerned about the restoration of the judiciary and freedom of press (from which other good things should naturally begin to flow), the common man is, and has to be, more concerned with their more immediate problem, i.e., basic survival, poverty, inflation, security of person. Therefore, the correct strategy/ election manifesto for any party ought to be two pronged: appeal to the intelligencia, and appeal to the masses…..
At this point, I would tend to find those more sincere who stick to the one point agenda of the restoration of the judiciary. Anyone, or any party, that does not make this their first and foremost concern, smells foul…..as it clearly indicates their Musharraf-like inclinations of subverting the spinal institutions of our country like the judiciary and the media.
Imran Khan has earned credibility in politics but taking a stand and then living up to it. His politics is far from “power politics play” that our country is used to playing.
- politicians who want power to protect their vested interests will never boycott (winning in elections is their ricebowl!!!)
- politicians who want to bring change in Pakistan and break the status quo and change the destiny of pakistan from submissive judiciary to executive, difference of law for rich and poor, extremism of society, free speech should boycott to establish the credibility which other then Imran Khan no has been able to establish.
The fact is: Imran Khan is boycotting election coz he knows at this time he will not even win a seat in any assembly….so he is afraid and thats why he didnt submit his papers for election.
if they decide not to boycott then Imran will give money to PML N to give him a seat so that he can enter into assembly. this is the fact and you all have to accept

People like Imran Khan are the only ray of hope in the darkness.Elections under emergency and in the absence of the juduciary are illegal and illegitimate. For me all politicians participating in these elections will also become illegitimate.
If youy are devoid of any insight to judge the legitimacy of the present political events then i really pity you.
But yes you are right he could not have won inthese elections due to the Mass Rigging Plan.
I appeal to every voter PLEASE BOYCOTT the POLLS. they are only taking place to fool people that transition is taking place
A RECENT JOKE:
Mush says while taking oath that “I will protect and uphold the constitution always”
Which constitution?
Oh! the one that you hung on the drying line on 3rd November.
Gen Kiyani is my new hope to get rid of musharraf. he should throw out mush and then leave after 60 days after elections.
its so simple, pml(n) isnt in winning position so far. so obviously it will prefer not to take part in election. i think all parties should take part in election, and let people decide who should govrn country.

I think under the darkest of the situations we have had in the past few weeks, pkpolitics.com has done fantastic job to keep the masses informed.
I want to congratulate admin for his efforts.
God bless you.

Can anyone please supply a good source for obtaining detailed information on the names of party ticket holders for the various constituencies?
November 29th, 2007 at 8:42 am
I feel your anaylsis of current situation is very much realistic.
November 29th, 2007 at 11:09 am
This was NOT realistic. They might get Jalsay Jaloos because they have been nominated in election but no one will listen to them.
It is because people wish them to not go for election and why people have to listen to those people who are taking part in election?
