Benazir gov. till now was the most corrupted gov. in the history of Pakistan as per Times Magazine.
We should not forget that we live in post 9/11 world and in my humble opinion Musharraf did a satisfactory job. If it was NS or BB gov. during these time, things would have been worst than now for Pakistan.

Like it or not. The current buildup on the political scene is really interesting. I think that we are headed in a good direction. There is tremendous political diversity now. We must all remember what everyone has done in their times. In 1999 it was NS government which had imposed ban on Jang. I still remember getting newspapers that had only 5-6 pages in them. In addition I think NS Govt had no right to interfere within the Army such as changing the Army command when the commander was not even in the country. It was NS Govt which had requested Najam Sethi to be court martialed. But lest all that is past and we saw a new Pakistan being evolved under PM. PM started off well but in the end I think absolute authority (no matter what or who it maybe) has resulted in a crash of the system. If the plan was so ingenious which could have changed the destiny of the nation than why couldn’t the PM government motivate the people and embbed in them the idea. Why the people did not take ownership to his ideas of a GREAT PAKISTAN? I believe nothing can be thrusted upon people - if you want them to be with you - you have to convince them and educate them. That is why I also believe that the story will not end when the Judicary is restored or IK comes to power. It is at the basic grass root level we have to take care of - to change the lives and instilll change in the life of the common man. Where a common man can get clean water, decent place to live, good things to eat and have a decent education. And all of these things in the true spirit of Islam and not some kind of “secular” state. Only than can we be “free” from all our rulers be they be from across the seas or be they be inland.
May Allah guide us and help us in fighting for Justice and Truth according to the teachings of Islam.

Yes, police and agencies can pick up people, all they have to do is get a probable cause and arrest them. It can be in private, as long as “Judiciary” knows some one has been picked up.

Very good speech by the President. We, as a nation, need to stop being short sighted and see the achievements and actions of the governments. Musharraf/Shaukat Aziz have done a great service for the country by restoring our cripping economy, re-building infrastructure, taking on the extremists and trying to rectify our social problems. Musharraf came into Power due to illegal action breaking constitution and his oath. So first of all his existance in power is wrong.

Then after that he tried to justify himself to prove that his action was right. So all those Nine years were spent in that. For that he had “the same corrupt team of NS and BB who attacked SC and looted money”. Broke his promise in the name of “sab se pehlay Pakistan” and did not step down in 2004.
And top of everything he abused the word “war on terrorism” to protect himself and performed all the illegal means best suited to him.
Now when everyone is aware of his actions and his team because of media awareness he took an action. Courts tried to show their independence in their decisions, he came into action again. Who has given him RIGHTS to protect us????

The Worst Democracy is better than Best Dictatorship because in democracy when politician go into elections they ask votes due to their performance. Now you can see Shokat Aziz is not willing to run for elections because his (and Musharraf’s) performace is poor. These PML Q (including PPP patriots) are full of Lutaras and leaders who have attacked SC. So if Musharraf sys or somone says NS attacked SC I start wondering where these politicians are with now obviously Musharraf. How pathetic and visible obscene his desires are shaping is any body’s guess right now. Anyone who calls him a moderate needs to have his head checked and barred from doing any work until that person starts making sense. Are we ever going to stand tall with those who are real moderates? Are we ever going to understand that siding with a gun man not going to save our house? Is their any person who has any doubts about who is wrong and who is right. Plainly speaking this is it. This is where you decide, are we heading towards another Iraq or Lebanon or we want peaceful, cohesive nation. We are hostage to one mans whims and desires. He failed to deliver and he is dishonest. He is only interested in self preservation. I don’t see lawyers and activists holding guns. I don’t see judges committing suicide attacks. I don’t see intellectuals committing treason. Do you? I don’t know why anyone would not condemn it. I don’t know why west would not cut off aid. Aid that is not going to poor and needy but to military incorporated. Aid that is not going to curb militancy but to pay those terrorists in shalwar and kameezs! Who are those any ways? Where is this state sponsored terrorism heading towards? It is bizarre and sickening. How contradictory and pathetic is that sight where burly elite are ordering their personal in command to surrender to few hundred Taliban. And then those very solders are tried for treason? Where there is not effort to negotiate but only solution is to bomb whoever descents. I don’t have heart to elaborate all these injustices. Sad but true I am ashamed of my race.
This one man has taken a nation and its ideology hostage. My heart and prayers goes out to those fighting for justice and self determination. This episode is tearing our hearts apart. We cannot even condemn it enough because words can’t even project the sentiments behind them.

I have two issues — which I believe Admin should also have had:

1. “vast majority of people” — kindly cite reliable statistics, otherwise this is a mere claim.

2. President is someone who acquires the authority of a President — and for sure Musharraf has Presidential prerogatives. How he acquired that authority is altogether another issue. If you don’t want to call him the president and still not be blamed to deny the reality, then you should first make his authority ineffective or take it way from him. Short of doing that, your are doing nothing but whining by the wayside wearing “choorian”. And until there is another president, Musharraf is the real president of Pakistan for now, Period.

First off — you are playing around with quotation marks (and I think I am reading more carefully than your own self). Your objection was:

Sending the tribals into Kashmir for our selfish reasons.

Genocide in Bangladesh and especially concentrating on Hindus in Banglaesh.

Helping Kashmiris to spread terror in India.

Helping Sikhs to spread terror in India.

Helping Taliban to control Afghanistan very brutally.

Helping countries like Libya, Syria, North Korea and Iran build nuclear weapons which could be used for terror.

Madrassas helping Jihadis worldwide.

How can we get ahead in this world if our main export is terror.

And also that they have given 6210 scholarships to students to do post graduate studies abroad per year. And also that they are opening 9 World Class rated Universities in Pakistan.

In the end there is one point that you didnt mention is about agencies picking people up..
So let me answere that for once and for all…

Agencies dont pick people up since they didnt like them wearing pant shirt, or they didnt like them shaving their beard, or that they are not in burqa… but they keep eye on these people for months.. in some cases years… then they check their connections for long and then their connection’s connection and when they are satisfied that this guy or girl have extracted all the information then they go pick them up.. and take them away…

or if you want instead of picking them what they can do is do go to court tell, get a warrant , get it public for 24 hurs as required by law, and then go pick them up.. how nice would that be…. or ya .. i forgot if they are suicide bomber then let them blow them selves up first then go to court get a warrant for their heads or legs (which are usually the only things left) and tell them they are arrested…. or if they are involved in some assassination attempt let them kill the guy first and then lets go arrest them….And let me tell you if my brother or father is involved is some inhuman act, such as suicide and assination attempts then, rather seeing those 100s of people dead i would prefer my father or brother picked up by ISI… Oh you know there are 3
