Musharraf is THE problem, & NOT a solution, to Pakistan’s present crises; that’s what every one within & outside the country is crying loudly. He NOR his grandfather also, ever probably NEVER, EVER,dreamed of a palatial acomodation, like the President’s House.
The day Musharaf is made to leave it & be EVICTED from it , WILL be the HAPPIEST MOMENT in each Pakistani’s life; & that’s what each Pakistani is thinking & talking privately, & also SAYING it in the streets.
Why does’nt our print & electonic media, openly say so? Simple; because of fear of beng chased by his secret agencies, of beng arrested by them, with their fate unknown, like thousunds of other missing persons, & out of fear that their newspaoers & Tv channels will be banned, leavig many more thousands of workers, jobless.
All that, because of one man, whom people of Pakistan call, the SCOURAGE, sent from God Almighty. A question arises, as to when he wiil be forced-down, (which their Happiest MOMENT in theiir LIVES. the say. )
And, if ever he STEPS-DOWN, WILL anybody will have the guts to put him behind bars & TRY him in a COURT of LAW, for his ACTS of COMISSION & OMISSION against our motherland, by this outsider from Bharat. who is one of those un-grateful lot who took refuge in this country in 1947, and later bit the hand that fed him.
Thats what people say in the streets; if U have any doubts, then have the guts to ask them in the streets of Paistan; but dont employ western ‘Opinion-surveying’ agencies. THATS, WHATS PEOPLE SAY.
A very detailed and critical analysis is presented which somehow lacks the objectivity. The problem with us is that we always make analysis with current events while ignoring the past history of Pakistan. The current situation of Pakistan is not only the result of current regime but it is due to our sixty years history. We failed intentionally or unintentionally to address the primary reasons of our failures. These causes are part of flesh and blood which is simply feudal-oriented thinking. This mindset has produced either democratic dictators or army dictators! Moreover, all these issues are not going to be solved with in next five years and there is no magic wand in the hands of the President that can rectify current problems. We have to think as a nation from a very basic level. This thinking process should be objective for the identification of our problems and stop talking about conspiracy theories and personalities. It is because those conspiracies are part of reality as we do not own this world! We have to be proactive with self-appraisal process.
Our main problem is the lack of institutions. These institutions are considered as the back bone of any civilised society. Conversely, the democracy simply supports these institutions but does not govern them directly even in developed nations. These institutions are the result of long term reforms in these nations. Unfortunately, the current circumstances have made difficult for Pakistan to initiate these reforms or these are not supported by masses. Please stop for a moment and think, is this violent politics address our issues or it will create anarchy in Pakistan? I hope you can get the answer very easily which is no. However one can quest then what is other alternative? The other alternative lies with the self-appraisal process. As Pakistanis we should accept that we have done our best but we have failed! We should accept our failures and then sit together in resolving these issues. We should also appreciate the good aspects of the President and assure him our support in the name of Pakistan. This demands moral courage and sacrifices from our politicians and establishment. Personally, I think we as a nation can exhibit these qualities even you can call me a bit over optimistic!
A lot of people talk about good aspects of the President. Generally the statement stops right there, and good aspects are never elaborated. Would you please enlighten us, what were those good aspects. Would you be kind enough to list the long term policies, which we will remember as long term legacy.
My perception is that person is obsessive liar and will go beyond any ones imagination to save his job. All of the regimes has failed miserably so far including the current illegal one to provide a long term goals.
No long term education policy, nothing in infrastructure (No, cell phones and cable tv, isn’t infrastructure). No health policy and a big No energy policy.
The only good thing a military regime has given us a greater push towards democracy. The general arguments given against democracy is that it is superficial and controlled by feudal and landlords. Please also give us an example where any dictator has done anything for land reforms? any mega projects.
In the end, no offense, anybody who trust Musharraf for any thing, I cannot consider him optimist but rather a stooge.
@Pakistani 2008
as per your lecture, “the guy I am supporting is the one who murdered all the remaining institutions in the country so better get rid of him” . I think I got it right!!
Past is Prologue. Musharraf’s history tells everything about him. If you look at the career of Musharraf in an objective fashion, you will find a manipulative at best mediocre mind who has delusions of grandeur and no ethics. I have met him in person once- and my first impression was that, which he has since confirmed. After he is gone the ARMY needs to re-invent its selection process so as to stop such people from coming to the top.
Anyone who says or thinks that Musharraf can do any good is dreaming. You cannot make a good deal with bad people and you cannot make a bad deal with good people. We in Pakistan need good people and he is not one of them.
Unfortunately the problem is not Mushsharraf per se, he is only the CURRENT problem. It is the institution itself which, sadly has gone rotten. The Army needs to be overhauled and we need to have a curriculum in there which teaches our officer’s corps not only about “jijad” etc. but also some sense that they are EQUAL citizens, and not some kind of SUPERIOR RACE which has been given 160 million serfs to do with as they please. And most importantly, they need to be subservient to the will of the elected representatives. If they don’t agree, then resign as generals and get into politics (very idealistic I know)
If you get rid of Musharraf, the foreign powers already have his replacement in place. Who, incidentally is quite popular with the CIA and the Pentagon and all the right places if we are to believe foreign and local press. And if Kiyani comes to power, he’s gonna make Pinochet look like a cakewalk. You may screw around, but your masters certainly don’t.
So, as the chattel don’t know what is happening to them as they are herded to the slaughter, top bulls and all, their shpeherds certainly know what fate awaits the ignorant herd.
Change the education system in civil and military spheres, or die. It is that simple.
Hina Gilani and Asma Jehangir are no human rights activists but touts of the west. Whenever I have seen them speaking, they never have the courage to point out at the real problem of Pakistan, i.e. the feudals and the establishment. Actually there statements are mostly anti-Pakistan. I hope good people with the right thinking represent the civil society.

“Angry Pakistanis turn against the army” is the article below by a reporter. The article just sums things up.

A very interesting article I stumbled onto. It reveals some new aspects.
