If 5 or more people write to a British MP, she/he is obliged to raise that issue in Parliament. More people write to them, better pressure would be on their Prime Minister (and as a result on Musharraf). If you would like to write online:

Write to the US Senators (From anywhere in the world)

Write to Australian MPs (those who live in Australia)

Write to Canadian Members of Parliament (For those in Canada)

Great news, if it is true. Let the movement to free Pakistan begin again
January 31st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
IT is a great news if Aitzaz is freed.
AA has right to be angry with us because he ran a successful movement whereas we failed to keep that alive after he was imprisoned. How can we expect him to suffer while we don’t do much for him.
We, living in the west, should start mobilising western governments. If any of us has a school, a business or employs a few people; they should invite local MPs on a lunch and encourage them to say a few words supporting our lawyers. Press should be invited on such occasion.
Businessmen like Sir Anwar Pervaiz (and smaller business men) should realise that Mush’s days are numbered and use their links to strengthen democracy in Pakistan. Ordinary people are already doing a lot whereas well off people don’t give a damn. It is about time that they realise that peace and democracy in Pakistan is essential for their businesses too.

i was reading on Geo that the Ex Serviceman have decided to launch a movement against the present goverment on February 5. This is indeed a breaking news. Please do put up another column for it for comments and keep a track to it. Surely it looks like that cracks have started appearing within army also and we should keep up the momentum against the goverment and Inshallah without any doubt the success would be ours - meaning people of Pakistan

@ c hussain
thanks. I am writing to different people and getting very positive response. Looking at the regular feed back from members, it seems that they value their voters (one email to MPs results in replies and regular feedback on the issues). If there were only couple of hundred Pakistanis doing that, I am sure the situation would have been different.
Pakistanis should stop discussing politics in restuaraunts and their homes. They need to realise that politics in the west involves Public Relationing, not blaming Jews or Media.
Protests can make a lot of difference. Those who thing Lawyers movement failed (because of losing momentum), don’t know the long lasting impact of such movements. Jemima Khan has written about the apparently ‘failed’ protests of the 60s and their impact:

Hi all
I live in the US and personally know and can vouch that we all should write to the senators and mp’s in UK and USA.
Once these emails are sent in a large number they have to raise and address the issue.
People abroad only see the biased media reports and do not know the ground realities. So please email to the addresses that optimist has pasted above.
Thanks

I’m afraid it could be a part of a deal - I HOPE NOT!!!
Mush has held a secret meeting with Atizaz’s daughter 3 days ago.
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: President Pervez Musharraf had an unannounced meeting in Davos with Saman Ahsan, daughter of Aitzaz Ahsan, the incarcerated leader of lawyers, to persuade her father to give up opposition to his regime, it is learnt.

Good news .Release of Aitzaz Ahsan reflects a ray of light / Azadi in darkness. Soon ,we will see Honorable Chief Justice of supreme court and all those judges not only released from detention but will be restored to position as before 3rd. Nov.2007(Insha Allah ) . I am glade to hear /read that all the retired officer demanded the restoration of Judiciary and will support / back the Lawyers movement along with all the Political Parties .Lawyers movement also need true and factual sport of media (as in the past ) as well as the participation of masses of common citizens . The Dictator has lost his senses and has been declared as madman .So the Lawyers movement must gear up their struggle for restoration of Law and Judiciary/and real Democracy ( before he is taken over or replaced by another madman ).

I know this not the place for this topic but.
Retd Generals of Pakistan Armed Forces announanced that they would apologise to Pakistan Nation. This coward Genral of Pakistan could not even do that. Only Gen Hamid Gul apologise. Even today they are thinking about themselve than about Pakistan.
Retd Air Marshall Agshar is know culprit in the murder of Z. Bhutto. General Omar is know character in drama of East Pakistan. for which they put the blame ZAB, and people of Pakistan beleive this propoganda of Pakistan Army and establishment.
I wish if people can post home address of this General so we can write some sham letter to them

The General-fraudster is a desperate and dangerous man with no scruples. As the entire civil society mounts a movement against him - even his own fellow buddies from the armed forces - he is capable of some terrible actions to sustain his hold on power.
Aitzaz is a decent man and General Toad fears his decency and integrity. Essentially the TOAD is a coward and supercilious creep.

US declines to Support desposed Pak judiciary!!!!
NOW DO YOU THINK PPP OR N-LEAGUE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT JUDICIARY’S RE-INSTATEMENT - to make gov’t they’ll never do that…
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan

@ aahmad100
We never relied on the US support. If the US had supported our movement, Musharraf would have been a history. He is there to serve US interests.
Our movement has put a big dent in the Mush support and even the US realise that Msuh has become a liability. US congress men have also realised this.
We must fight for our right whether US is in our favour or not. USA is not God and failed to save Shah of Iran.

US Badbakht was probably behind the suspenson of judiciary… the U.S. has never been for democracy in any of the It is a MYTH!
Optimist is right, we have to win our Pakistan and our freedom ourselves… This is what the 2nd Tehreek-i-Pakistan is all about…

Pakistan has the 7th largest army in the world. I did not know this until I recently read Fatima Bhutto’s article in which she had mentioned it. A Muslim country, armed with nuclear weapons, strong army, immense potential to grow under the right leadership and system. How could West tolerate this? This is why the US, the UK and the West do not want the SOB (Mush) to go because he is holding us back and is the biggest hurdle in our success. Do you think that the West does not know how our media and judiaciary has been treated by this one individual and his cronies? Do you think that the West does not know that our honorable judges have been detained even though it is being (falsely) said to the entire world that they are not under detention. This is all BS. Once we survive this ordeal, which Inshallah we will, we should stop relying on the West. Look at India; it is on the path to rise but it never allowed contries like US or the UK to bully it. We should learn from it.

We will carry on fighting against Dictator Mush. If the USA is behind Mush, I am happy. Mush cannot have a bigger curse.
Mush is a new Shah of Iran who will be running around the world for sanctuary.
February 1st, 2008 at 3:19 am
@amir hameed,
I seriously disagree that we have a POTENTIAL to grow with this army. You can definitely find many examples who are growing without the army. We have potential for growth if we can contain the army. It is eating our country inside out.
February 1st, 2008 at 3:20 am
Is Atizaz Ahsan still under house arrest or not? TV channels are reporting that he is not anymore.
It seems Mush’s secret meeting with his daughter has done some trick. I hope he is not the sell out like PPP. Lawyers will inhale him alive.
February 1st, 2008 at 3:28 am
@econfused
This is not what I meant. I was merely mentioning that we have a big army. Our potential to grow has nothing to do with the army but with the resilience of the civil society.

@amir hameed
I just want to make it clear, as there might be some new visitors to the site, who might not know your exact stance

I think big army is the problem

Congratulation to you Mr Aitezaz Ahsan for your freedom. Entire nation is happy for your release from unlawful detention. We hope that all the other judges, lawyers journelists and respected members of the society, who also have been detained unlawfully, will be also be freed very soon.

Kinarre
Dont worry about those who apologise or not - at the moment we need more and more supporters for removal of Musharraf. Thats all. If the retired army generals are coming forward we should whole heartedly welcome them.
Leave them to their conscience - we need full support from everyone we can.
I am also surprised that press and this guy Umar Cheema in The News - he is more concerned about apology rather than the action what these ex servicemen are doing.
If that premise is accepted then that means we should not support Chaudhry Iftikhar also because he has taken oath on PCO, we should condemn and not support Dr Abdul Qadeer also because he agreed to work under Zia after Bhutto was removed - if we go by kinarre theory - then no one should be allowed back once they committed a sin. I am sure this Umer Cheema is a Musharraf agent - thats why he is more concerned about their apology rather than what they are doing now.
If we start blaming these ex servicemen and they say ok go to hell - then would you guys who are criticising them be happy
Rather we should concentrate on Kiyani and demand from him that we dont want peanuts in form of calling back army from civilians as they can be sent any time again to civilian posts but we want one thing from him - REMOVE MUSHARRAF and a national government and free and fair elections under independent election commission and restoration of judiciary.
February 1st, 2008 at 12:46 pm
The first mistake people make is to consider themselves free. Not only does the West _know_ what is going on, they are the main instigators of what is going on. They are actively managing the disasters unfolding all over the world.
@all those who want kiyani: PLEASE. STOP! You cannot wash shit with more shit!. So stop asking yet another general to come in and save your a$$ . Protect and strengthen the civil society and get a grip!!!
I have put a few points about what we should try to get the generals to agree to, and NO ONE has bothered to either read it or comment on it. Instead focusing on stupid conspiracy theories and pointing out obvious _symptoms_ and not the causes of the problem in this thread.
February 1st, 2008 at 3:00 pm
@admin: I think my comment above was supposed to be in the law and order thread unless I made a mistake (note the _symptoms_ comment above) I won’t protest it because I’m not sure whether I made the mistake or you arbitrarily moved it from the law & order thread to this thread.
I find the comment deletion and move policies of this website arbitrary and at time capricious. You may do as you please with this site, but if you keep this up you are going to have a bad signal to noise ratio and you are also going to lose credibility with the readers …
As it is, the law & order thread is already derailed and in a tailspin.. moving comments around un-announced just disorients readers further.
My apologies if this is not the case with the above comment. But I have noticed other’s comments disappear as well.. and to be honest with you, to do “comment gardening” to this extent gives the site an artifical flavor. At least leave a stub there so people know what the heck happened.
