The Awami National Party says army offensives in the tribal region abutting the province have killed, maimed and displaced untold numbers of civilians, driven recruits into the arms of the radicals and helped fuel a surge in suicide bombings and other terrorist attacks across the country.
“The war against terror has failed. So there should be no war,” said Haji Mohammad Adeel, one of the party’s most senior leaders. “The only solution is peace. We will do it with negotiations, not with bombs, not with guns, not with airstrikes.”

The question is, WTF was MMA doing all this time, hording up money in personal bank accounts? If this is what “Khilafa” is going to look like, then NO THANKS!

ANP wants to rename NWFP as Pukhtun Khawh or Afghania. My suggestion is to rename NWFP as Kohistan. As Punjab is named due to five rivers and not because of saraiki or potohari people. So Kohistan can depict the mountains and hills in this province.

@yaqub2005
Your suggestion is fine. I would be worried if NWFP was renamed to something which could be linked to another country or any ethnicity. It could create severe problems in the future.

There is no harm in renaming NWFP to Pakhtun
February 27th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
ANP is a sensible party. They were in power with PML N and probably even with PPP but they did not hurry to change the name. They are not criminals. They have kept the Warrior Pathans on peace path. ANP will take time before taking a decision on name and I am sure it will not cause any harm.
Other CITY parties should learn from ANP. If they want to do politics in the name of some race, they should try to benefit them, not make their own people criminals and Bhatta Khore.

@ Tab’an Khamosh
I watched 5 year special programme on Capital Talk on this website (it was after 3rd november emergency). Hamid Mir showed the clips of Mullahs of MMA who said
‘We were offered 10 Lakh each for voting senators. I said give me a Crore each because you are taking 10 Crore for each senator. Why should I spoil my IMAAN for 10 Lakh’.
He admitted MMA corruption on air. This is the condition of their Imaan (faith) and they don’t sell that cheap.
Probably they take Quranic verse too literally where Allah condemns those who sell their Faith cheap (here cheap was meant to be worldly gains!!).

I have what I call the IMMORTALITY TEST for leaders of the world- Let me explain.
Nawaz Sahreef has all the money he will ever need for food, shelter, clothes etc. Like every human being he is going to die and will only be remembered for his actions while he was alive. The same was true of BB and Zardari etc etc. If they wish to become immortal- all they have to do is to devote their life for the welfare of their people . Thus you can see that up untill now they have failed the Immortality test. The corrupt Mullahs that ruled us in the Frontier for 6 years or so had the same opportunity. Plus it made political sense too. If they had remained honest-( as they CLAIM)- and worked like Hazrat Umar and lived like Hazrat Umar- then in the elections ANP or anyone else could have never beaten them. But they were really not the muslims they claimed to be- they were simply corrupt politicians with LONG BEARDS and they stole as much money as Zardari or anyone else.
Musharraf when he came to power in 1999 had the same opportunity and again in 2001- to be honest and try to be like Hazrat Umar. He was too corrupt to start with anyways and he also failed the IMMORTALITY TEST.
\Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry passed the immortality test as he refused to be intimidated inspite of all the force that he was threatened with. No matter what happens now- the generations of future Pakistanis will always remember him with fond memories. You all saw that the people of Pakistan are genuine and when they have a leader like Justice Iftikhar- they will come out in the heat of summer-(124 degrees)- and wait for 24 hours just to get a glimpse of him. I am 63 years old and just thinking about it brought tears of joy and happiness to my eyes.
I hope Zardari and Nawaz Shareef learn something from Justice Iftikhar and the responce that the people of Pakistan had towards him.

Thats good,There should be negotiations with taliban and Americans should go to hell .pakistan should look for its interests.

@Saqib
Although i m strong critic of ANP politics but i m suporrting renaming NWFP to Pakhtoonkhwa,Afghania, r some other agreed name.there is no worry n renaming it to ethnic base.if balochistan can be named on ethnic base then why not our province.
By the way what is NWFP.in ur opinion if it is true then Panjab should be named as NEFP, Balochistan should be as SWFP and sindh as SEFP.
There should be some Identity of our province also by name.
I want to clear one thing that afghania is not linked to any country, but pakhtoons are afghans by nation.
February 27th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
@fahmad
If you read my post again you will find out that I am NOT against a new name for NWFP. In my view the existing name is weird and ought to be changed. What I have mentioned are my reservations on naming NWFP based on ethnicity or a name which is too much related to a neighbour country. This way the name could have the seeds for a future conflict.

@Ashraf: I am with you my friend. It is a pity that people have reservations about giving a city it’s proper name but they don’t think twice about forcing a language on 90% of Pakstani’s a language spoken by not even 5% of the population as “National” language. We are quick to rename lyallpur after a treacherous saudi lickspittle king (yeah yeah he was a nice guy.. I’ve heard it all) but we have “reservations” about following the wishes of Pakhtun’s (But our jurnails would LOVE to extract as MUCH money as they can from Enn Dubya Eff Pee… because.. you know.. we’re all Pakistani’s and pakistan ko rape karna ham sab ka paidaishi haq hai..)
Pekhawar is a beautiful name, and from now on, I will call “Peshawar” with it’s proper name. Thanks for mentioning that.
@Saqib: I understand your reservations bro, but the seeds of conflict are already present in the derogatory and racist way in which some pakistani’s treat other pakistani’s. You can’t force someone or some nationality or some group to like you. If you treat them right, they won’t want to create conflict anyways. If we give Pakhtuns the respect they deserve as fellow human beings (and Muslims, mind you) a name will just remain part of a harmless identity. If we suppress relatively innocent requests like naming someone’s own area in their own idiom, we will have much more heinous things however much we want to control it.

I agree with the Policy of ANP on this terrorism issue.
Let me give you a little background about the ANP’s stand on Afghan war and now the War on Terror.
ANP was founded in 1986 by the merge of two parties ( Khan Abdul Wali Khan’s party National Awami Party and National Democratic Party ) at Hakim Ali Zardari’s residence in 1986. It was the time that Cold war had changed into a warm war in Afghanistan. ANP took a stand against the establishment of Pakistan’s involvement in Afghanistan’s internal issue . As the soviet war in Afghanistan had calmed down, Pakistan interfered in Afghanistan to capture it through Taliban who were madrassa educated pakistani nationals. ( it was the joint effort of ISI and Religious Parties with some support from Arab countries ) . ANP was always against the sending of taliban troops to Afghanistan as they thought the disputed territory can never be invaded through war, even the soviets tried their luck. Also Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan ( the founder of the original party 140 years back ) was against violence especially unprovoked-violence anywhere in the world ( which is in sharp contrast to wat people think of pakhtoons ) .
Now ANP’s policy is that the foreigners should vacate the pakistani territory go back to Afghanistan or Arab countries and the people of Pakistan who WERE NEVER ever talibans and millitants but made to do so by wrong policies of Musharraf and America, should be dealt with through negotiations and not through War.
February 27th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
@Sadiq: If we can have two Punjabs in India and Pakistan so what if we can have a name similar to Afghanistan which is our Muslim brother country .
And I have one more reservation if somebody want their province call with any other name, its not a bussiness of punjabis, sindhis or baluchis or Urdu speakers.
Its up to them. Please stop even discussing this issue if you don’t belong to that province, we have enough things to worry about.
Thanks.

The previous peace deal with the Waziristan and Waana people which was made in 2006 failed because it was violated by Americans with American bomber planes striking the area without prior warning to pakistan govt and then Pakistan Army, shamelessly took the blame on themselves to protect that act of US.
In another incident US bombed a school in Bajaur Agency in which there were only children between 4-10 years and 68 of those children were killed because US had suspected OSAMA there.
The Pakistan army courageously took the blame for that act and that BAJAUR area which had nothing 2 do with Taliban before became a battlefield after that.

@muqaffa: I think “claiming” is the keyword in the last sentence. Think 1984 ‘doublespeak’ when you hear _any_ bush admin and american intellectuals at large speak.
It would be FATAL to take them at face value. They mean exactly the opposite when they talk the “high talk”.

ANP has the right stand . No more BUSH AND MUSH WAR.
PEACE IS THE SOLUTION.
if people of NWFP wants to change the name of province then they should have the right to do so.
I agree with yaqub2005 for Kohistan as a new name.
March 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 am
I think so rather than talking to the militants ANP should negotiate with establishment of Pakistan to stop killing muslims or helping other to kill them. Other wise it might become “Bangladesh”. OR pakistan even break.
Remind pakistan army bangalis did not follow them. These guys would. If american army backs off, these guys would conquer GHQ with in a week. Why imran khan keeps on repeating “Have a good look at the history” no one ever has ever ruled these people.
Pakistan army has already conquered pakistan many times we know it they dont have to try it with pakhtoons. Deadly dangerous business……

NO where in the so-called democratic and developed countries there comes force or war before negotiations. UK never used force or waged war against IRA despite US backing of IRA, US never uses power against Isreal, Korea, Iran, supplying nuclear tech to india and only no negotiations with innocent pathans of waziristan and balochistan who have been serving their purpose for 20-30 years against Russia. Well done ANP. Be sincere and go ahead Allah helps the sincere
