Pakistan: the march towards greater chaos continues
In a nutshell, Musharraf seems to be succeeding in the role of the spoiler and our political leaders have fell for the bluff and folded…
Everyone is busy behind the scenes in getting full benefit of the situation. Zardari has been handed dismissal of appeals against NRO, governments in Islamabad, Sindh, Baluchistan, and a share in NWFP (Baluchistan after yesterday’s appointment of Sardar Magsi, a PPP crony and Zardari buddy as the Governor and doing so now — before the formation of new parliament).
Nawaz realizes that and is thus trying to gain as much control of Punjab as he can as that is all that is left for PML(N) and to use the current leverage he has to get the restriction on third-time PM lifted (a non-issue for PPP now that BB is no more). All their spokespersons are talking as if they were campaigning for the next election already. As for the restoration of justices, it is NOT going to happen until they agree to sell their soul.
Listening to Ch Nisar on Capital Talk last night certainly confirmed it for me that “Show of Strength” by Zardari and all was, in reality, a show put up to hide their weakness. Here is what is more likely going to happen:
1) PPP will form government under Musharraf.
2) PML(N) will not be part of the federal cabinet but concentrate on full power in Punjab in return for supporting PPP on the Federal level. The only issue of interest to them right now will be doing away with the 3-term restriction…
3) Deposed Justices will be restored only if they compromise their stand and as the report suggested not go after Musharraf or any of the “Missing People” cases or investigate Privatization, and other such “sensitive” issues.
How off-base are these conclusion? See the following:

The regime succeeded once more in making kings of whom it wanted right in the face of Pakistanis. The ISI and other agencies wanted Mullahs united to show the scary face of Pakistan in 2002. Re: 3rd term. The rule applies only if you have completed your term.
Usurpation of PM and elected govt. invalidates the 2nd term. Nawaz Sharif can become prime minister again because his term was ended not legally but by an internationally acknowledge coup d’etat !
They need to get some constitiutional lawyers on their sid. A robbery does not invalidate a rental or lease or ownership agreement. So why a military coup would invalidate a legal 2/3 majority PM?
I’m no lawyer, but I don’t think a term is properly ended if out of constitutional bounds (like a military coup)

I have a pet definition for democracy:
Nations are Organisms, Democracy is like a nervous system and a negative feedback loop. You don’t have pain receptors, you die sooner of later. That’s what leprosy does. It only takes the feeling away from your body. And you get little cuts, you never notice them because your nervous system is compromised and you keep losing limbs.
This is why the western countries fight to the death to protect their democracies and the first thing they do is destroy democracy (hit them over the head to cause unconsciousness) in countries which they want to control.
Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, countless South American and African countries are examples. I won’t even mention the fools in the Arab countries individually.
Everywhere, they start with subverting the nervous system of that nation and then destroy the second most important thing which can cause democracy to come back (gain consciousness ) and that is the Education system.
You have to wonder why Israel which has WAY more existential threats than Pakistan has always had democracy (more obnoxious than just slapping desks that fauji idiots in our country hate because it “doesn’t look good”) .. By a mere coincidence (being sarcastic here) all the sleeping giants around them DON’T.. they all have nice and tidy dictators.
Not only that, they have Khilaafah Idiot’s running around saying Democracy is “UnIslamic” and these people just “happen” to be based out of UK. How co’incidental is _that_ ????
Our enemies don’t want us to ever gain consciousness while they are cutting and carting away our body parts. First thing you do is “anaesthecise’ the victim. And subverting democracy in a nation is akin exactly to that.

Expecting democracy from the political parties (who themselves do not believe in democracy within their own parties) is the height of foolishness. I would believe in democracy when AZ or NZ conduct elections within their own parties to elect leaders. They are “slected ” leaders, one by Gen Ghulam Gilani and the other by BB. Any rebuttle for this truth?
