I know some of you think Hamid Mir has compromised with the MQM management of GEO but I cant help but like him. I have noticed though that when he is without any of them on his show he is much more relaxed and like his old self popping up with shararati questions with that twinkle in his eye.Perhaps he should move to Aaj so he can have the freedom and no pressure from anyone.

Gen Talat said that America’s policy on war on terror towards Pakistan would not change after the anticipated victory of Democrates in the upcoming US elections. I only partially agree but would like to add that there would be increased pressure on Pakistan especially viz a viz the issue of Nuclear proliferation. There will be more use of stick and less of carrot thenceforth.

I have been writing it time and again that 10 billion dollars paid by the american in the last six years have been embezzled by the generals. The first thing that the new govt should do is to audit this fund to expose the true and corrupt face of the military command. Secondly, the war on terror is not our war, the people of pakistan have spoken against it, so whatever the psuedo-intellectuals like talat masood, Hussain Haqani might say, Pakistan is not going to gain anything from the US war on terror. A reversal in the foreign is essential. Of course, the new government must consult China before going any further. At the same time, we must strengthen our relationship with Iran and India to get out of American influence. Quite contrary to the perception of timid intellectuals, Pakistan is a big and strong country and would not starve without the american aid. The US aid has served the elite only. It has not benefited the public at large. So that aid is not a major incentive for the people of pakistan to accept the american influence and continue to fight the american war on terror.

Naveed Qamar does not understand what is constitutional head. Musharaf is self-imposed illegitimate head of state. It is for the clarity of perception only. Musharaf is a dismissed soldier. He does not command the confidence of the parliament. He got elected in uniform as chief of army staff. The constituion is clear on this issue. No civil servant is allowed to contest the election of the President.

I think that in order to make us follow the ‘war on terror’ policy the Americans are probably arm twisting on the nuclear proliferation issue.

They might turn up the heat on the nuclear issue and blackmail us to keep the policies.

Nuclear proliferation was the biggest mistake we as a nation have ever made, it will keep haunting us for a long time.

    how bout dis:

    - Biden plan is offering huge aid to PK, even larger than that to Mush
    - US interested in “military action,” which is not going to change any soon

the only way to refuse dictation by US is to refuse this new influx money
but why would new govt do it? refuse billions of dollars? no way - it would be more than happy to do whatever US says

    bigger picture:
Zia regime brought frustration and politicians promised democracy - the rest of story, full of corruption, from 1988 to 1999 is in front of us

same happening now - so 2008 is the new 1988

the only difference this time - critical eye of media - but who cares when huge cash coming from US - pmlq govt evaded the same media for 5 years - why can’t this govt do that?

about rule of law - agreed judges will be restored - but before the personal ego battle (and please don’t tell me it wasn’t a personal ego battle) b/w Iftikhar and Mush, was Iftikhar or any other judge doing any justice to the masses - was a common poor man able to get justice by going to nearby katchery? why would he be able to get justice this time?

agreed if Iftikhar is restored, huge pressure on him and his team to keep rule of law, but wtf? will they open up corruption cases of goverments from 1988 to 1999? the very people who restored him?

money is everything, new govt gets money, they give some to judges, win-win situation, awaam goes to hell

    - personal ego of NS versus Mush
    - personal ego of Iftikhar versus Mush
    - personal interest of AZ to wipe slate clean, and start making money fresh (may be mister twenty percent this time)
    - no one serious about “rule of law”, except those who boycotted the elections

military rule - democracy - military rule - democracy

this time also, just another era of “democracy” that we’re having last 60 years from time to time

Friends … it is good to hope about the future … but without considering ground realities it’s like building castles in the air

seems like these people are not serious about even discussing important issues like war on terror and mush’s future and audit of the money received in connection with the war. They were all merely playing around with words and having a good time.
