Fareed Zakaria, the author of the book under discussion, speaks eloquently on TV and radio. However, his predictions in the past have been utterly false. Few weeks after the U.S. occupation of Iraq, Fareed Zakaria said on ABC News “This Week” that the insurgency in Iraq would be over in a matter of months and all the debate about the morality of Iraq attack would be thing of the past.

Yearly US defense expenses (including Iraq and Afghanistan advanture) is ~$626 billion which is mere 5% of the US economy of ~$14 trillion. US healthcare spending is $2.3 trillion a year. A very simple question is that if these monstrous healthcare expenses could not bankrupt this nation for the last 20 years, how can the peanut defense budget affect it. May be some economist can explain this to us.
I think all these intellectuals are either fooling themselves or they are up to something even bigger. (May be provoking others to mess with US)

New information:
Obama’s mom worked for US AID in PAkistan
He stayed in Pakistan for 3 weeks at some point in his life
His mom wore local shalwar kameez and even spoke basic urdu
McCain has an adopted child from BanglaDesh called Bridgete McCain.
Fareed Zakaria is not a real comentator…he is famous for saying things which do not turn true like many other political pundits, his name is Islamic but he himself is Bahai….faith…
Muwahid Hussain is a very good commentator…he said, its against the theory of Tawheed to call anyone Superpower, only such Superpower is Allah!
Doctor Shahid, did a loooooooooooong bayan about world history and rise and fall of Britania and emergence of US and now the fall of US etc…
Lets see what he brings on for tomorrow….

This show fo Dr. Shahid was based on a book by Fareed Zakaria. Fareed Zakaria is a controversial figure himself. He is an Indian Muslim who initially favoured attacking Iraq and has always condemned Kashmiri freedom strugle. He is what he is now because being a ‘muslim’ he writes stuff which suits American media and audience.
Dr. Shahis should research author before he gives importance to s*** like Zakaria. American economy is not a joke that it will crash like a paper plane! It still has a lots of juice left in it to come back with a roar.

I think he’s just getting on the bandwagon…. and I wouldn’t rule out what Ashraf said about “getting some sucker to get into a confrontation with USA”… I think it might be Iran they are prepping for this thing… just a hunch..
But one thing is for sure.. the American Economy has taken a massive hit, and paradoxically, it is the Iraq war itself which is providing the infusion from the defense budget into a failing economy. War is the Republican nutbag’s way of “government intervention” in the domestic economy. I don’t think 60% of the money even makes it to Iraq (it changes accounts in the US itself)
If they can keep Iraq .. it will be a gigantic prize… but to keep Iraq, they gotta do something about Iran … If Iran gets to the nukes first.. it’s checkmate Uncle Sam and bye bye IzGheaal!

remember the prog. with h. haqqani….haqqani alleged that SM’s prog. are geared towards provoking trouble. interesting that right after that….SM should do a show on Amerca…the country which had him removed…via moshe once already…and has in Haqqani , a new mouthpiece.
not that i agree with SM …infact i find his arguments a little stretched. but hack or no hack….SM is atleast trying to interpret geo-politik for the massess, good bad…time will tell. but the taste will develop…for more.

@TK
“I don’t think 60% of the money even makes it to Iraq (it changes accounts in the US itself)”
In case of Iraq you might be underestimatiing a great deal. Remember a million dollar bomb though it explodes in Iraq, it is 100% paid up in US.
In all other cases, I remember a study done a few years on ALL regular foreign aid by the powers that be and it concluded 50% of it never leaves the country of origin and is gobbled up before hand in consulting fees, etc. That figure might look high but just a couple of days ago own very own Boucher admitted in a committee hearing that 30% of the aid to Pakistan and Afghanistan is “syphoned off”, “milked”, “milked” before ever getting here. Also note the sentence “much of the $750 million earmarked for the tribal areas will never leave the US soil”/b> which sounds like in reality the percentage is much higher that the just stated 30%. Remember: This is coming from the Devil’s mouth itself.

Lessons From:
Many Empires beside following:
(a) Fall of Roman Empire.
(b) Fall of Greek Empire.
(c) Fall of Oathman Empire.
(d) Fall of British Empire.
(e) Fall of Russian Empire.
It is in Quran that “Every rise has it’s fall and every fall has it’s rise”.
See the history in the light of above, it is self explanatory.
See anything in the nature, even see in yourself, first you were baby, then young, then old, then you die. Nothing remains the same forever, it is against the nature that things remain same forever, everything has it’s expiration date, pre-assigned.
Somebody needs to google (not from CNN) to find US debts as of today.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:10 am
I will not give you the site for referrences, which matches or supports my point. I would rather tell you to independently google yourself, and find facts for youself.

@Asharaf
just some nuances…
healthcare costs have not been this high for the last twenty years…
In 2000 it was $1.3 trillion. It crossed 2 trillion mark in 2006 and projected to reach 3 trillion in 2011…
secondly, and more importantly, this figure includes both government spending as well as private spending…In fact, most of the amount is spend by private sector - individuals and firms. in 2006 public healthcare spending was around $1 triilion.
defence costs, on the other hand, are almost entirely public spending…also importanto note that the money for the Iraq and Afghanistan comes from extra-budgetary supllemenst and is not part of the regular Pentagon budget - incidently this too has reached its highest since WWII.
But at the same time, it is true that as % of GDP, the share of entire military spending in the US today is less than it was during the Korean and Vietnam war..
May 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
they have forces stationary in 120 countries out of 198 countries of the world.
(a) pays of the soldiers
(b) movement cost, within that counry and from countries to countries.
(c) amunition cost
(d) paying/supporting that country’s government obiviously/ultimately it would be monetarily (whose has will to keep them on their soil).
Interesting, to find every second rising debts “google .

power and resouceswise, Iran is no match at all.
It is very easy to win Iran, divide and rule old policy of our friends, through the help of mir jaffers and mir saddiqs.
Means divide middleeast in sunis and shais.
we have expample of Iran, Iraq war.

@ibnrazi
Thanks doctor sahib for explaining and clarifying the numbers about US economy. If you recall Bill Clinton said in 1995 that this healthcare system is going to bankrupt this country but it did not. All these talks about U.S. defense spending come into the same category.
@all
I do not think we need to remind American that all empires eventually fall. They already know that.
Dr Shahid failed to mention that the title of Fareed Zakaria’s book is just an argument which Fareed rebuts himself in the later part of the book,
Listen to the NPR clip what FZ says himself.

As per your acceptance, when Americans know the nature’s call, and it is fact of life, then I think rest doesn’t matter, wether it is defence spending, Zarkaria or NPR.

May 18th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
@ Ashraf @ibnrazi
I think ibnrazi is quite right in mentioning about Health Care spending in American, which is mostly controlled by the private sector, and there is nominal government spending on health care, for instance in UK there is NHS National Health Service which is free for all citizens.
Well that could be further elaborated by the Michael Moor lastest film Sicko, in which he revealed that 47 million Americans has not health insurance policy and 18,000 are dying every year bcoz they can’t afford health insurance (which is 6 times than died in 9/11).
Joseph Stiglitz, noble prize winner economist book ‘ 6 Trillion War’, probably propagate the same idea about down fall of American economy, in 1999 crude oil cost $10 in 2003 $25 in 2008 $ 125
of course its going to effect American economy as much as anyone else.
It increased the cost of living.
” Higher Oil prices have direct effect on family, city and state budgets; they also led to drop in GDP for the US> when interest rates finally rose in response, hunreds of thousands of home owners found that they were unable to keep up payments, triggering the toxic tsunami of defaulted mortgages that has put the US on the brink of recession and brouth down Norther Rock (in UK) with all the ramifications for Britsh home owners and banks that has in turn entailed.”
I am strongly in an opinion that War is a business it pays you back don’t forget that UK finished paying reparation to USA for her involvement in WWII in 2007.
Can any one confirm this fact that Saudi Arabia paid reparation to USA after taking LOAN from world bank or IMF for 1st Gulf War.
And it was no other than WAR which eventually finished the Great Depression of 1930s in the form of WWII.

@ Mulla Nafs e Zakkiya
with all due respect, I don’t think Bahai faith based on Quran and Hadith, I know it is rooted from Iran, and if you know Dr. David Kelly, the whistler blower on 60 minute claim by British government before invading Iraq, died or probably murdered by British establishment converted to Bahai Faith.

America will collapse totally if Bush is given one more term or If McCain wins.
If Obama becomes president , america will recover from the disaster. I am praying for McCains victory because i want this evil country to disappear from the map of the world Inshallah. Mujahedin in afghanistan and iraq are responsible for destruction of USA.

“America will collapse totally if Bush is given one more term or If McCain wins.”
Some say America is already dead.
May 19th, 2008 at 6:22 am
I strongly disagree with Dr. Sahid Masood bcz i dont think Boer War was the reasoning behind the collapse of British Empire. If we do century back. The seven year was in Europe which led the conflict in Americas and United State gain the independence from British.
After that strong dissagreement between conservatives and liberal Gladstone & Disraeli created conflict in British goverment.

This Mawahid guy doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. Actually, he is the kind of “intellectual” who deflects from the actual crimes committed by the successive American administrations.
He claims the US has been ‘in-active’ in middle east.. while NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER from the TRUTH!!!!
The US has been doing the EXACT OPPOSITE! they’ve been Micro-fuqqn-managing the middle east, and this DOOSHBAG claims the US doesn’t do anything? merely because it shows in-action on the Palestinian issue? WTF!

@ kash 218,
You have presented one side of the wars. Don’t forget it brings tremendous amount of atrocities to civilians, and long term wars have devastating effects on the people of that area. I guess you don’t have any idea, what is the horible nightmare is the war, unless and until it happens in your surroundings.
