I fail to understand that we are one of the poorest nations in the world. We have less than 2% grduates. our literacy level is still below 60%, we have serious energy problems, our infant mortality rate is shockingly high in comparison to the other poorer nation. We are risking our lives to go to the western countries to make living. We are offered substantial financial, technical, industrial and development assistence offered by mainly USA and European Community and we criticise them. We have remained at odd with India for 60 years and fought 4 wars what exactly do we want. Politician and the media continue to criticise the those countries who want to help and of course in return they want our cooperation to fight the war on terror which is a global problem and on our territory and are killing Pakistani citizens including Benazir. Hypocrites like Imran talk differently on oreign press but are anti- american on urdu press. Why we cannot sit across the tabl and resolve the differences. We seem to fight with everyone and only want revenge. Most of the people want the distruction of the country rather than improvement. The press plays Zero role for the benefit of the next generation. Geo should present some educational programmes rather than all day put all day anti government politicians not only against previous government but also th present elected government. Some of them lie through their teeth and keep changing their stance on issues concerning the welfare of the people. Sorry to say majority is not interested in resolving the problems of Pakistan. They are selfish and for their personal benifits.

Kashif should watch BBC prgram “Hard Talk” with Stephen Sackur or old presenter Tim sbastian in order to know how to grill people like Hussain Haqqani. He should have quoted him from his books or his addresses that he has delivered some where in USA. “Kashif you should do lot of home work before such interview”.

I think Haqqani did very well given that Kashif constantly interrupts and talks nothing but emotional nonsense.

Points Haqqani did not bring up yet: Who burnt embassy of the other country and killed innocent people by burining them alive, Pakistan or America?

Has any Pakistani diplomat ever been killed in US? Many US diplomats have been killed in Pakistan.

Abbasi was in US on US funding while doing interview. Did he feel any threat to his life? Yet US reporter Daniel Pearl was butchered in Pakistan like a goat on Bakra Eid.

All of these things happened long before US bombed anyone in FATA.

When will we learn to be logical and fair?

Personally, I don’t care what the conclusion is (I choose to be unbiased in favour or against) — i.e. whether Pakistan should defy the US on this “war against terror” or comply with it.

What I care about is methodical reasoning, looking at evidence out there (as opposed to delusions of evidence in one’s mind), and weighing of the strength and reliability of that evidence in order to conclude. This is called systematic reasoning. As researchers we should not judge an analysis by its conclusions, but by methods employed therein.

Its said that most of us pass judgments based on what we want or do not want to hear which itself is based on our preconceptions generated from snapshots (as opposed to totality) of reality that we incidentally get to capture.

I have not seen this one as yet….but the last one appears to offer higher (though not perfect) grades to Haqqani and not Kashif. In fact, Pakistani TV anchors are not better than run of the mill living room debaters.

    BTW,

If my child keeps throwing stones at your house and breaking your windows I have one of 3 choices to make:

    1. Sober him myself (whichever way best suits) and ensure its not repeated
    2. disown him and let you deal with the kid
    3. Still own him but also let you do the dealing.

Evil is not ours. And who ever fights it is on our side and not against.

The question that we must be asking, of course, is if it truly is evil. Until that is answered, we can’t take sides here.

The government, I think, should ask the tribal elders if they want to be under Pakistani authority. If yes then they should submit to it and stop cross-border aggression period. In return they get Pakstani protection (which only in that absolute unambiguity could mean no Afghani/NATO/US aggression). If not, then they fail to have Pakistani protection and others are welcome to do whatever they want to do in that region to settle their scores ….. no complaints, no emotions.
It is an Islamic principle and one that is a reality…..you can’t have a state within a state. You can’t have two different leaders (and also principles and goals) and be one nation!

    @shola,claremount,& occam
its really a rare sight seeing so many pro-west guys taking the offence…
i proudly consider to be in opposition to your views…..
American and west hypocrisy has surpassed all the levels ..i can go in detail but if you have’nt been able to see it its no use repeating it…
yes our people have gone crazy to some extent but its only because the west has been so cruel and barbaric in the brutal slaughter of islamic ummah in palestine ,afghanistan and iraq directly and iin kashmir ,chechneya and somalia in directly.
they r the so-called champions of humantiy and democracy and more whatever ..they have killed so many muslim children not to mourn of others…and romped basic human rights in guntanamo-bay and abu gharaib.
occam has compared the qabailies acticivties as that of a mischieveous child …its simply a joke with people whose 80 of children less than the age of 12 were killed in one such operation.
yes i agree what is happening to us is because of our own faults but the west must fear the day when we get back our basics right …they have to settle a long overdue payback.
this is ALLAH’s promise and insha-ALLAH may ALLAH make it in our lives.AMIN.
as for you guys ..u will also learn the right from wrong one day ..may be the hard way.

I think PKPOLITICS has given in to emotional biased journalism of newly born cohort of Pakistani TV (yellow?) journalism. However, I must say…that stupidity is at times entertaining …. and I do need a bit of entertainment every now and then…hence the visits. But this site and its content appears FAR from serious. Personally, I think the mangers should also consider uploading talk shows and debates shown in the Western media against Pakistan and Pakistani fanatics.

It is between two extremes only that one can find the truth — but certainly not within either.

Folks commenting here…………please get serious, methodical, less biased and more scientific.

I totally agree with your comments. Haqqani is not a Pakistani politician like Wasi Zafar or Ch Shuajaat. He is very intelligent and educated person and has thorough knowledge of international politics. He did the same tactics when Dr. Shahid Massod interviewed home last month.
I think Tallat is the right person to go one on one with Haqqani but as you said, after proper home work. I have seen many talks of Haqqani in US and Canadian media. He is fluent in his thoughts. Some one must counter him with proper arguments. But i must say at least it was a good effort from Abbassi who did managed to convey his message and our thoughts.

“yes our people have gone crazy to some extent but its only because the west has been so cruel and barbaric”

If you must reverse engineer to find the fault…then you must do a complete reversal. Why stop at the West? Blame it onto to Shaitan!

We all know the original source of all evil…Sahitan. But no one is walking away with error blaming another of its responsibility. That would leave everyone innocent and free.

This is what you and I and the rest of “Muslim Ummah” need to get right:

Once we commit a wrong…we are responsible for it. We can’t belittle our crimes by explaining the processes involved. It appears that you understand the Quranic language. So let it be known……no loss comes to you, that is not of your own making. Chapter 4 Ayah 79

Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee as a messenger to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.

Lets learn to take responsibility for ourselves and groom for the better

    http://www.jang.com.pk/jang/jun2008-daily/22-06-2008/mulkbharse.htm

You may also know that the ANP government in NWFP is trying hard to solve this Mush/Bush mess by “peace talks and negotiations”

Now check this dawn story which was also mentioned in today’s Coulm Kar by senior journalists that “Pakistan government has officially concluded that US has a secret mission to destabilize Pakistan and create a independent land out of FATA and NWFP areas.

If you know the NeoCon philosophy, then you do not need to be a Rocket Scientist to realize what is in the making and who are working for Pakistan and who are familiar cute faces in Washington and have no problem in taking big money from NeoCons and act as Meer Jaffars to the people of Pakistan.

A friend from Karachi, recently narrated an interview of Pir Pagara in Daily Jang in / around 1999, about his comments on making of Pakistan, as follows ; -

    1) Pir Sahib negated Qaid-i-Azam’s contribution, & is said to have said,
‘ What could a barrister do in making of Pakistan ? ‘

    2) Pir Sahib also narrated a story about 40s, when the then PM of Punjab, ‘ Sir ‘ Sikander Hayat wrote a letter to the then British PM Wintson Churchill, fearing that if the lands / awards given by the British to Indian Hindus & Muslim natives are forfieted / consficated to the state, by future govts of India & Pakistan, then what will those native ‘ dogs ‘ do ?

    3) During those days, Sardar Patel & Jawher Lal Nehru were advocating forfieture of such awards by the new Indian Govt. Winston Churchill is said to have assured Sikander Hayat that a new State of Pakistan, will soon come into being, where such landlords will not be touched, & neither any govt wiil collect taxes from them.

    4) Can your valued readers vouch on correctness of such a statement by Pir Pagara ?

When you say Kashif Abbasi succeeded in conveying “your thoughts” you mean your emotions. There were no thoughts and little knowledge in Abbasi’s comments and questions. he had no answer each time he was asked “What should be done?”

Our problem is that we are an emotional nation. We burn buildings on a rumor and kill people on suspicion and dont even feel regret.

When someone challenges us to think –like Haqqani is doing –we charge back emotionally by calling names, attacking him personally and trying to label him.

Answer the points he made: What did the US do to Pakistane xcept giving billion of dollars in aid for us to hate it stupidly? Why do our people live in US and visit here at US government expense and then abuse it? Why should US make its policy under orders of Pakistani mobs and their emotion –hate Israel, hate India, support Taliban? When US has so much power, how will Pakistanis face that power except through wise negotoiation by smart people like Haqqani?

How many people who are ranting here are prepared to give up their cushy lives and face Amrican bombing of Pakistani cities?

Please save Pakistan from becoming Iraq and Afghanistan, which is the natural consequnce of your lunatic rage…

“my so called logical friends believe that being logical is being always right but it is so easy to defy the logical thinking logically”

Being logical, Sir, implies conscious effort in trying to be right. If we are still wrong…then, the problems is not “logic” per se…….but rather “our logic” which is usually not always correct logic.

See “Hikmah” and Wisdom are Allah’s and you cannot belittle them. They should always be made use of. However, its a fallacy to consider my apparent wisdom as true Wisdom.

There is only one singular occassion when you can put aside pursuing your wisdom…and that is when Wisdom itself is in your midst in the form of a Rasul , Nabi or a Wali. In all other matters, your guide must be thoughtful dispassionate “reason”.

You also wrote “But he ignored most important fact which is to find out why kid is throwing stones at his own house”

I did not…..sobering a person implicitly employs trying to remove the cause, and still if sobering fails trying out other means.

If US is a cause of trouble in Pakistan then prove it — and you just might be able to prove it but only if it were an absolute fact. But I assure you, you can’t. You might think you can, but you can’t. Its because US is not Shaitan…it might get influenced by it every now and then, just like any other nation on earth. We all have our own shaitani selves within us. All countries do some good, and, conscious or subconscious (or unrealised), harm.

But in no way can you justify evil, even when you can fathom its mechanics. Its like saying X raped this woman but see she was revealing herself and enticing him. From X’s perspective, it was wrong and evil period. From another, it was also not quite the right thing to do for this woman. But right now the debate is on us as a nation……may be on another forum I might stand against a party that deludes itself to think that the US and its policies are flawless.

Its people like Kashif and may be yourself who cannot get out of this binary world. Thats is, if you are against us, then you are with them. Do entertain the possibility that some of us could be not with either…… And the substance of what we write/speak depends upon who we are writing/speaking to.

Its a fallacy to think that to criticise is to be an unpatriotic. The truth might be quite on the contrary!

Seriously guys, you need to go and read some history before you come over here spouting drivel about how U.S. wishes to help Pakistan. If that is so very difficult, just go & visit a bl$&dy British museum sometime. U.S. does not wish to help Pakistan just like Pakistan does not wish to help the U.S.

U.S. is a nation formed on the GENOCIDE of its native people. Read the book called ‘500 Nations’. U.K funded its conquest and rule of the sub-continent through the opium trade. There are some very basic rules of international geo-politics and

Rule 1 is that you never ever ever ever allow people with guns into your neighbourhood No matter what sort of bull-shit they offer you whether it is the crap about female emancipation or protection of minorities or the biggest lie of it all, democracy.

You don’t allow other people with guns in your home. If you do, they will put dictators on your head (Just like they have done in the entire middle east ranging from Saudi to Egypt to Jordan) & they will strip your country of your natural resources, they will suck your blood dry & having done all this looting & plunder.

They will then sit in their homes pretending how civilized they are and how uncivilized the rest of the world are and having completed their colonization of the native minds, then we will have people like

i agree with you about communication skills and also i agree that We should also not deny everything he said because he had a point as well.

i also quote one other refernce in Geo TV programme “Left Right” Haqani was invited with Imran Khan..though Imran is not a dimplomat even then he put his point of view in a very effective way and haqani was saying I agree with Imran Khan.. I agree with him etc etc…I think programme is still present on pkpolitics it was in April as far as i remember…

I will quote an example though not very relevant but just to explain…in sports for instance cricket sometimes an ordinary Bowler looks extraordinary if opponent batesman is not good..it seems that Bowler is delievering unplayable deliveries and he is the best bowler but when same bowler is faced by some world class batesman who face him confidently then everybody realize weaknesses of that Bowler and start commenting ..he should change line ..he is doing this mistake that mistake…….

as long as one do not hear counter strong argument …one feels that current argument has lot of logic and Haqani was taking full advantage of Kashifs weakness……once again i wish that same interview is conducted by talat or a second person Like dr. shireen mazari is present to counter haqani…interesting is Dr. Shireen is sacked by Govt. from her job on the will of haqani because she gave tough time to this guy on many forums…….

second haqani was saying that America is our friend…ok haqani knows a lot of dimplomacy and international relations but first principle of international relations is that “no one is friend or enemy and every nation protects its own interests”

we should analyze weather our interests match with america…if yes how much and what sort of relations are required……there are so many countries which do not actively take sides or oppose but still running there country in a good way…….this is only ne example..there are so many other examples in haqani arguments which could be counter by taking example of so many countries in the world who are dealing with USA…….

haqani is blaming anti american sentiments for every mistake……he is absolutely wrong in saying that…..around the world people have anti american and anti impearlism sentiments…..i will quote some examples of non -muslim countries so that factor of religion can be ruled out in that argument

what about Latin America? there are strong anti american sentiments across the Latin america…..even western europe which is an ally of USA , and vast majority of people have negative opinion about USA and impearlism…..

i will only say haqani has played with kasihifs weaknesses and put his points in an effective way

some other time bro. I can tell you, your brain picks and chooses information that is sensational only and ignores the rest. You have a biased opinion of reality.
But discussing that with you will be a digression and something I do not have time for — the week has started and I am a busy man.

I suggest you try to research what bias is, how it affects us, and how common it is. Withoyt introducing the fallacy of “appeal to authority”, I want to mildly indicate that what I do as a living is minimise bias….its important because it affects not only me, but you and whole world. I think you should also do the same in your own understanding of the world.

May Allah(swt) help you and me, Ameen

Isn’t it the same Professor Haqqani who was, before elections, praising media for their honesty, boldness and becoming people’s voice? Now Ambassador Haqqani is berating the same media for disinformation, distortion, spreading , making things worst and ‘putti culture.

What is the word for such person, oh yea, a hypocrite!

It just amazes me all when you so called “logicall guys” got nothing to say you start accusing and making sh*t out without providing any facts. like in your post above you are saying : hey eric cartman you are biased because you are biased. you wrote 12 lines above suggesting me and accusing me of stuff but u dint have time to write one line about how i am biased.
but let me tell you I am biased coz I love my muslim brothers and sisters and Quran clearly says “Christians and Jews cant be our friends” so they cant be and thats my logic and enough for me no matter u provide a billion arguments against that. So may Allah give us all human hidayah coz we have including me and you ve lost the path.

    Well, I didn’t ……

Cause I knew that you knew (or would know should you choose to go beyond the superficials) that yourself……….. and to explain the obvious I, unfortunately, have no time

Astonishingly, you contradicted your own self above by confessing “let me tell you I am biased……”

Now surprisingly you are lightening the guilt by cloaking it in a wrap of piety. Do you think that your bias will cease to exist because you love “muslim brothers and sisters”. Well then go rob a Christian to help your Muslim brother and call yourself Ghani or Ansar

    “Quran clearly says

    Hahahahahahaha!

    Assalam Alaikum dosto!

I really enjoyed reading all what you guys have posted above.

Well! About the interview, it was really a good one! I personally believe that it was such a thought provoking and stimulating (thought ;-) ) interview that you guys are still fighting on that. These are the after-effects of that episode of OTR!

About Kashif Abbasi, no doubt he is a good anchor, but this time, he had a tough time. Looking at the positive side of this, he’ll definitely work on it, because he is a young individuals who is still in the learning phase, we shouldn’t talk about him in a way that shatter his confidence. He is a person who has played a major role in the change and grooming of the thinking of our youth.

Have you guys seen Yuvraj Singh demolishing Stuart Broad by hitting 6 sixes in an over? Situation here is similar to that. BUT! What we should do is to pick up all the (pluses) from this episode of OTR. First of All the tone and the tempo in which Hussain Haqqani is speaking. That is the most important thing, because he actually took the control of whole discussion with his tone and tempo.

Let’s come back to some basics. First ground reality is that Pakistan and USA are allies! Where did this story start, leave it for a while, but the current situation is that Bush/Mush partnership has resulted in such a complex situation in Pak-US relations that a common Pakistani can not easily grasp or digest it.

There is an unwritten rule (may be written somewhere, hahahaha) in politics and international relations, that there are no friends, but interests. One who considers americans bloody idiots giving billions of dollars to Pakistan from Russian version of Afghan war to US and NATO version, for nothing, is a bloody idiot himself!

In fact, we should admit how cleverly and cunningly they have used us in achieving their goals in history till date.

Maafi chahta hoon per aik term hoti hai beghairti, jis ki angraizi mujhe nahi aati, iss liye urdu ki maddad leta hoon. Beghairti ki aalaa misaal mulaahiza ho, aik taraf tau america k paaltoo kuttay ki tarah har waqt uss se roti k tukrron ki umeed lagaaye bethay rehtay hain, aur ussi ko aankhen dikhaanay ki niyyet bhee rakhtay hain. Jo chund afraad kuttay bunnay hain woh jaantay hain k kutta aakhir kutta hee hota hai. Yaad hai na woh blood hound wala cartoon. Aur yeh baat amrikan bhee achhi tarah jantay hain, warna dunday aur gaajar wali policy ainwen hee 7 saal se kaamyaab nahi ja rahi. Qaumi hummiyet, ghairat, fakhar, waqar, un qaumon aur logon ka hota hai jin mein khud daari ki koi ramaq paayee jaye. Kashkol haath mein lay kar kon se qaumi waqar ki baatein kartay hain hum. Hai tau jazbaati baat, laikin bhookay mur jao, per yeh maangna tau band karo, phir karna barabri ki baat, waqar ki baat.

We are a confused nation! Because we never have access to complete information. Can anyone deny the fact that these were americans who actually have awoken the spirit of jehad in muslim ummah 2,3 decades back. USA and Pakistan are reaping what they sowed!

Coming back to solution! We need to develop a consensus at national level regarding so called war on terror. As a nation still we are confused on this issue, we don’t know what to do, AND WHAT WE HAVE TO! We are just somewhere in the air. We have make a clear cut decision about extremist organizations and people in Pakistan, one thing we have to agree upon is that there should be no parallel group, force or authority or situation like state within a state. Without giving respect to pathans, balochs, sindhi, punjabi and muhajir brothers we can never achieve a respectable position in the world.

We are just passing our comments on everybody, blaming for this, that, bla bla…. That’s just waste of time, till we advance towards a solution! As a nation we don’t even have attitude required for table talk. Reason —- illiteracy, and non-democratic culture and environment!

    baaqi aainda!

I do agree with Haqqani. We have a choice. Either take advantage of our geographically significant location or follow Afghanistan’s fate. If somebody likes to fight then he can move to Afghanistan. We don’t want any war. we need education, health, communication, commerce and law and order and seek help from advanced countries in that regard.

I dont think Kashif Abbasi’s confidence is shattered easily ;) . Judging by the ongoing debate I think as a journalist he’s probably happy with the results- its gotten his viewers really motivated. And in part 2 Haqqani had to change his attitude. So yes, always room for improvement but my my talk about shaking things up!
