talat very nice…to raise awarness:
if Govt. brings real hardware and fight with these talibans then their supports in form of Mulla fazlu, qazi and co and other mullas will create a chaos in the country and Govt. which is morally very weak due to their own black deeds will not handel this pressure..even Talat Hussain told that ANP which claim o be very progressive party bla bla bla. is not willing to share this pressure..everyone wanna save his position and noone has courage for big decisions…i am really afraid that situation will be worst and these extremist brutal taliban will take control of some areas of NWFP due to weakness of political forces and they will enforce their sharia which include
1) slaughtering of oppnents and humiliating their dead bodies to create terror
2) killing of people from sects other than taliban sect
3) closing all Girls school
4) banning woman to work or even to move
5)brutal justice where taliban qazi will order cutting the heads of people
6)closing down all cinemas, cd shops, saloons etc.
7) saying no to any kind of democracy
i do not see any improvement as no political party is going to take stance and all will start a blame game , on the other hand supporters of taliban political parties like JUI Fazlu and Sami Ul Haq and Qazi will be very happy that their ideological brothers have imposed sharia….and media who creates opinion have some taliban supporters in it in the form of Hamid Mir etc. who will conduct programmes against Govt. and will try to prove that Taliban are doing well and Govt. has destroyed peace etc. Patrons of Taliban like general hamid Gul and other stupid ex generals will try to undermine Govt.
this is a real disaster and do not forget that these brutal taliban will retaliate in form of suicide bombers who are ready to blow themselves and create a chaos and terror in Punjab and Karachi as well……
problem is that noone is sincere with Pakistan , all have their own agendas and extremists are taking full advantage of that….apart from that due to media cry, no stance from political parties and strong stance from pro taliban people..ordinray people will get confused and i suspect that all this will go against Govt. and brutal talibans will take full advanatge of that…i suspect that this will end in another Martial law or atleast Governor raj in NWFP…..
everyone is ready to break each brick and stone of this unfortunate country …. i do not see any hope for betterment

The problem is people do not want rule of law (source: Zardari). If only, they had voted for rule of law, we would not be witnessing this problem today.

People are afraid to blame taliban. That itself is a cause of concern. The women minister was cautious in blaming taliban. She was worried for her own safety.Nobody is allowed to speak against taliban and in favour of general musharraf
June 27th, 2008 at 2:55 am
yeh “general musharraf” kahaN say Aa gayaa?
KUFF MOSHE KUTYAAN .. it’s his goddamned policies we’re paying the price for.!

Iam actually happy for ANP winning the elections against the MMA in Frontier though I myself not a very staunch supporter of ANP. I back them for one good reason that they would never compromise on security issues of the province atleast but I would have doubted MMA if they were in power coz I personally belief they would have kept a double standard as every body knows they keep a soft corner for Talibans no matter how many criminals and looters Taliban hiding in their camps.I was quite optimistic even b4 the elections that the security will definitely be improved.
I don’t think so Talibans can easily beseige Peshawar as its neither mountaneous swat as said by that reporter nor a city with limited resources.I think they can tackle these factions very well.they have a strong writ to implement but its also worrying as said that whos the central authority who would implement dat writ as it seems to me the same situation with the whole country and its very alarming v never had a situation b4.I know its only because of that dictator and to some extent PPP whose playing wid our country on US dictation.

We all have to learn lessons from history. These are pushtuns, and force (military solution) will NOT work. The problem is multi-factorial and extremely intricate and complex. To deal all folks with one stick is the WRONG approach. Here are my suggestions (IMHO) :
Parties/Groups Involved :
——————————————–
1. Taliban (real) - who (truly) recognize themselves as such. This is an ideology, and a popular movement (whether you agree or not). This should not include who are exploiting the name of the taliban.
2. Criminal gangs - who are taking advantage of the situation. These include mainly kidnappers (Aghwa baray tawan), bhatta badmash folks, (foreign goods) smugglers, narcotics traffickers, etc.
3. Provincial Govt- Whose jurisdiction includes PATA & (some) FR regions.
PATA = Provincially Administered Tribal Areas
FR = Frontier Regions - Small pockets of areas different than PATA & FATA.
4. Federal Govt- Whose jurisdiction includes FATA.
5. Army, FC (Frontier Constabulary), Rangers and other military & para-military forces.
6. Ulema-e-Karam (Extremely Important), Fuqaha, Tribal Elders (Maliks, etc), Jirga members including elected officials (MNAs, Senators).
SUGGESTIONS
====================
1. Political negotiations - ongoing - not just a few here and there. Complete CONSTANT and CONSISTENT contact and DIALOGUE with all parties involved (except #2). A synergistic relationship b/w the Federal & Provincial govts is needed. Currently there is no policy being given by the Federal Govt.
2. Ulema/Fuquha MUST be included in the dialogue process, as the taliban would NOT heed or listen to any other argument except religious arguments. This is VITAL for success of negotiations. Remember, taliban are a religious movement and their source of ideology is Deoband Ulema, and some Salafi Ulema from amongst the Arabs in the FATA region. One can ONLY convince them via religious arguments especially viz. suicide attacks, and ‘collateral’ damage of innocent civilians.
3. Actually the Taliban strength and force should be leveraged to fight against the criminal gangs and smugglers. This would be very effective, as they have a proven record in this context both in Afghanistan and Waziristan anyway.
4. Have genuine dialogue with the Taliban, they are pushtun brothers, albeit a little more radicalized. We hope that they will soften their stance if continuous and constant dialogue is maintained with them - especially via IJMA’A of the Ulema. I cannot stress more upon this point than I already have. The Taliban are a genuine movement and force, and very strong, effective and organized.
5. Force should be used against the Criminal elements, miscreants, thiefs and thugs, ie, Group #2 - who have taken the lives and property of citizens for granted. They are conducting reprehensible acts, and there is no excuse for not using force against them.
We DONT want a civil war in NWFP and FATA. Turning the gun against the Taliban is a bad bad idea. There are and have been many thiefs and thugs who are exploiting and USING the name of the Taliban.
History has shown, pure military solutions will FAIL. Dialogue, Dialogue, Dialogue.
Another Twist to the Story
—————————————
Mr. Mush is deliberately creating (with aid of agencies) a situation around Peshawar and suburbs to eventually show and justify that the writ of (new) govt has failed, and even major cities are not safe, to finally dissolve assemblies in coming months to continue to hang on to power. Anyways, I read newspaper reports about this (conspiracy) theory. I hope that such (newspapers’ reports) are wrong !! It would be abject shame to our nation if it is true - if indeed its true !?
June 27th, 2008 at 7:01 am
The situation is worsening because we don’t have a leadership…if you call Zardari a leader, then you must also start calling your dog “a lion”…
June 27th, 2008 at 7:30 am
@sarosh, I agree with you that the problem is that people are afraid to point to the monster in the room - Talibans. But lets call them by any metaphors or surnames, but it will take some time when we call spade a spade. However, now I think we need to have one point agenda. Flush out these elements.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:33 am
@sleepingnation, very true analysis. Just I am too pessimistic and to be honest I will even want someone even Indians or US to take down Talibans if our own Leaders and Pak Army is unwilling to flush them out. I am so much hopeless by their in action. F.. them.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Question is why? There wasn’t any such problem before year 2000!!! in province NWFP. It is time to pause and think twice. What went wrong suddenly? If these are lawless elements in Peshawar, where they were before?????
Very suspicious situation, whom should we trust?
Political Agent, by speaking English, what he is trying to prove, where everybody knows urdu!!!!! He didn’t impressed me at all but he degraded himself, that he has infuriority complex, and represents his “Ghulamana Zahien” and trying to show he belongs to high class and different (better) than common Pakistani public, poor public whom government servants always looted left right and center and above all they disgraced these powerless and helpless majority of Pakistan.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:47 am
True no one is since to this country. I had to once write an essay in CSS exam that what single most important event that makes you proud as Pakistani citizen? You know the only thing that came to my mind was winning of Cricket World Cup. Nothing else. If you say nuclear blast now then share some shame that Dr. A Q Khan has to put the whole nation for selling Pak secrets along with Generals.
Too much disgusting, dont know when we will become nation.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Ismail Khan and Talat Hussain zindabad.

In my opinion their is a need of massive brain storming in the country in order to bring peace back to our lands.
Negligent behaviour of the government has already made a mountain out of mole in the country, we need to disarm all the militia at the first level and monitor the porous border we share with Afghanistan to inculcate the writ of the government.
Any operation should be limited and targeted and it should avoid collateral damage by the government forces as Taliban or other militia factors will incash and use it in there favour.
The religious elements should understand that the stability of Pakistan is of key importance and they shouldn’t try to act insanely for the de-establishment of Pakistan which is of no good to islam as well.
Mr. Political Agent seems to be a brave man hats off for him. but a little less conversation a little more action please.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Abdus Salam and Dr. A.Q. Khan both are our heros. We are proud that such an intellgent people belong to our nation. Whoever separates and divides us is not our friend. Certainly he is our enemy for the sure.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:52 am
America went through civil war in it’s life time, (see, search in google and read American history it will tell you what you don’t know yet), and survived, and become powerful nation.
Thanks God we haven’t gone through with such a situation.
June 29th, 2008 at 11:20 am
@ CS
Political Agent isn’t government servant? All government servants are making money through wrong means, why they have to get themselves into trouble by taking about militant group, what benefit this will bring to them? Their main goal is to make money wether it is wrong or right. because they pay bribe to get the post of political agent, custom officer, police officer, income tax officer and rest of the goverment officer, obiviously these sons of rundies, don’t obtain the power/post to pray All might or serve poor people. All you know why they get these posts.

@Aqeel Khan
All the insecurity and talibanization (in Pukhtunkhwa) has risen in the MMA era in the first place. The mullahs are to be blamed for all this anyway. I remember how the mullahs used to praise AlQaida after the 9/11 in the mosques and then they got a chance to rule so what happened then? The insecurity and injustice rised in their 5 year era more than it was there in the past 55 years.
