:) Keep your hopes up democrat, sleepingnation, “PRO” ghoshi, and other bloodhounds….
Operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem: as straight as a coil!
PESHAWAR: Who is really in charge in the Khyber Agency and who has written the script of the operation Sirat-e-Mustakeem to deal with the Fata situation and are the unfolding events unravelling as per the predetermined script?

One militant commander claimed that an informal arrangement had been reached prior to the beginning of the operation whereby approximately 25 ‘bigger structures’ shall be blown in the Bara region by the security forces and then the process will stop. We will soon know whether this statement is true or was it just a deliberate misleading assertion. I have been counting the structures and approximately nine of the structures blown up so far fall in this category. So the jury is still out on this issue till this blowing up process in Bara division officially comes to an end. Meanwhile, start keeping the count.

What we are seeing is a highly orchestrated charade, designed primarily for the benefit of the visiting US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher (to show that the US money is being spent well) because on the domestic front the government has yet to formulate a coherent strategy and the timing simply does not make any other sense.

On the fourth day of the operation, empty residences and so-called central structures of the three banned outfits of Lashkar-e-Islam, Ansar-ul-Islam and Tanzeem Amar Bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munqar continue to be blown up by the security forces but surprisingly not a single militant foot soldier of any group had been arrested so far, what to talk of their leadership.

And it’s not as if the militants have all melted away in the hills. They are right there, and all the time……

Zardari was at the Socialist International Congress an NGO and not at the World Socialist Forum.

He is the last person who should have been at such a gathering , him being the biggest hurdle in the way of independence of judiciary and a beneficiary of NRO, in whose backyard innocent girls are sold and none from PZP gives a damn.

The goras are suckers - they believe all the BS which they are fed by the sheedon ki party.

Also nowhere on their website or in the list of office bearers does it say that he was elected the vice president( daily times) or vice chairman (express news).

PZP should stop trying to elevate him to a position he can never attain. Also at the closing ceremony when the Pakistan delegation wanted to speak about BB’s UN investigation they were not allowed and told that we have accepted it so there is no need.

    http://thenews.jang.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=121960

Keeping in view of the past history of PPP, now ZPP or PZP, it is not surprising at all. All I have to say is that fok PPP, fok the snake Zardari and his d@stard cronies. I am also very unhappy with PML-N. WTF are they doing by still staying in the coalition? The worst that may happen to them is that they would loose their Punjab government. But they would gain the trust of the people by doing that and they are not a small party by any means, so they could give one heck of a time to the government by sitting in the opposition.

The worst thing that can happen is not losing Punjab but their credibility and all the benefits of NRO. How and why do you think they are here my brother!

HRW goes further and calls for trial of Musharraf
…Roth claimed that Musharraf’s presidential election was illegal, as he had violated his own orchestrated constitutional amendment that time. His capricious approach towards constitutional matters worsened political situation of the country, which resulted in deposing of those judges of the Supreme Court who had taken up the case of his eligibility to contest for the slot of president.

He said Musharraf should be tried for violation of human rights, and meted out severe punishment except death penalty as it could be against the international law. He appealed to Musharraf not to stand in the way of evolutionary progress and development of the country……

Therefore, the raise in electricity tariff was imminent.

He said the entire country was facing the power crisis because of the gap in demand and supply and efforts were being made to increase the supply in the system. He said that short term, long term, middle term and emergency policies were being devised to get rid of the power crisis and hoped the problem would be resolved in 2009 through these measures….”

I think the policy PZP is following is to price electricity so high that most can’t afford it forcing them to rip their meters out. That in turn will lead to drop in demand leading to no load shedding. :)

… Reacting against the upsurge in gas prices and operation in tribal areas, PML-N chief made it clear that there had been no change in the country after the February 18 polls. He said operation in FATA was not a solution and negotiations were the best way to resolve the issues. “We will continue to support PPP government as we both want an end of Musharraf’s rule,” he said. He further said that country was facing serious challenges like price-hike, terrorism, unemployment, poverty and lawlessness due to the wrong policies of President Musharraf in the past.

    Here’s more for you:

“When we are (Pakistan People’s Party’s) coalition partner and supporting them then why did they not take us into confidence on important national issues?” PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said.

He said his party was not aware what had forced the PPP to change the decision and launch an operation in tribal areas.

Referring to Information Minister Sherry Rehman’s statement that all coalition partners had been on board on the issue of operation in the Khyber Agency, Mr Sharif claimed his party had not been taken into confidence over the issue.

He said that the present parliament was not sovereign and it had failed to come up to the expectations of the people.

The PML-N chief also claimed that the PPP did not consult the coalition parties before raising prices of oil, gas and electricity.

He, however, evaded a question about the possibility the PML-N quitting the coalition government.

“We are very keen to keep the coalition intact. We don’t want disintegration of Pakistan. Therefore, we are not leaving the PPP, but it is not taking us into confidence,” he said.

Later in the afternoon, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif told reporters at the Punjab House that his party had differences with the PPP over some issues, but it would remain part of the coalition government.

He said only the people, and no foreign country, would decide the fate of President Musharraf.

Some headlines from Dawn’s Business Section:
    Massive price-hike in govt’s first 100 days
“The first 100 days of the PPP-led coalition government have really proved tearful for the consumers in terms of massive price-hike of essential items…the cost of living, which had already gone up in the eight years of Musharraf’s regime, has further intensified, thus nullifying the 20 per cent increase announced in salaries of the government employees. Even the routine salary increase in private sector employees failed to bring any relief as the increase did not match with the meteoric price hike….

Rupee sinks to record low vs dollar
“…The rupee sank further against the US dollar to a record low of Rs69.90 on Thursday, while currency dealers said the local currency would keep on sliding as it has been “unofficially” linked with petrol price in the market….the rupee has been set free to chase the petrol price and depreciate against the dollar to Rs76.

    Pakistan’s Circus by Ayesha Siddiqa
Pakistan stands in the middle of two systemic fault lines. The first one pertains to Pakistan’s status as a client state. Policies do not get changed any more due to individual sacrifices because the ruling oligarchy is happy serving its patrons. The rulers are so comfortable working as mercenaries that bombing of Mohmand or Bajaur agencies or any other part of the population just does not matter any more.
…The state machinery, which includes the military and the political parties, will not break away from the US. There is a strong pro-US lobby in the country and senior officials have worked for the CIA starting with various finance ministers. What is worse is that they will not even clarify that it is their own war being fought.

The other fault line pertains to the growing influence of the Taliban in the country or pursuance of policies which would indubitably encourage the Taliban-type. While there is the confusion in Waziristan, Fata and Swat, the deeper establishment also seems to be encouraging militants in other places such as the Punjabi Taliban. There is evidence of growing influence of the Punjabi Taliban especially in South Punjab….

It is absolutely bizarre that Peshawar is besieged by the Taliban despite the presence of an army corps and military operations conducted under Musharraf’s command. Surely, the Taliban haven’t just grown stronger in the past six months.

Obsequies of submissive PML N - Is this last nail in their coffin?

Who will be PPP’s Jiala President, guess?

Nobody tried to listened outcry of general public, media and scholars told everyone that Zardari is not trust worthy, and he always attack from back side, but PML N leaders kept snoozing, their ears remained closed and practical actions did not match to their commitments. When Zardari labeled Bhorban declaration as “it is not serious issue”, same day PML N should have abandoned coalition but their leaders defied peoples mandate and hurt their sentiments, daringly kept receiving minister’s salaries.

Shariff brothers and PML N leaders have been watching immodestly: They did not speak why? When…

Zardari tactfully enjoyed benefits of NRO; was it not morale duty of PML N to raise this issue in parliament? Nobody was authorized to pardon murder of Justice Nizam, Murtaza Bhutto and Aalam Bloch, except heirs of victims or clean slip of courts in proper manner. PML N is now equally responsible for supporting criminal activities of Mush League which get approved NRO.
Zardari joined ranks with fascist MQM; it is history of PPP that they can do anything for the sake of power. But PML N leaders had been exchanging smiles with Zardari party, it was time to break ties because joint venture with a fascist party was blow to PML N, this was first step to embrace agents of Mush and to eliminate PML N.
PML N was given all third class seats of minister ship; none of them had any bargaining position or had any administrative control over government. This is the reason whole government is running without those ministers (but surprising taking salaries sitting at home, is a kind of bribe which PML N is putting its pocket).
Zardari and Yousuf Raza Gaillani broke records of lick spitting of Mush. And both converted PPP in Mush league. Musical concerts and dinners are every day practice of PPP’s ministers on government expenses. PML N is working as apologetic political party, political history tells that apologetic politician is not true politician; theories of PPP are against basic ethics of political science, summersaults of Z A Bhutto, Benazir and top leaders are part of history and require a separate column what power hungry PPP’s leaders have been doing in past and what is going on now.
PML N before joining PPP’s government must have cleared everything in black and white. Current PPP is not 1970’s or 1977’s party, it is running on philosophies of Benazir, but stay now it is Zardai party free from any ideology, it is well known that how he looted Pakistan and later saved his assets.
Appointment of non-elected peoples (like Rahman Malik) and continuity of Mush loyal bureaucrats on top posts, including Malik Qayyum, Sharif ud Din Pirzada, Mahmood Durrani ex Ambassador to US, Hina Rabbani Khar, Governer of Sindh and Salman Taseer Singh etc.
Zardari & Co. was laying land mines and using delaying tactics in the passage of restoration of judiciary. PML N had no vision to understand dirty tactics of Zardari & Co, who disregarded coalition partners, kept placing his relatives on PPP’s and Government’s top posts, position is now that only dogs and donkey’s of Zardari clan have left which did not have any PPP’s or Government’s post.
Zardari started to take revenge of his defeat in election from the peoples of Rawalpindi and Islamabad by appointment of defeated PPP’s candidates on high administrative posts such as Nyyer Bokhari, Israr Shah, Zamurd Khan and many others. Moreover changing names of Murree Road, Airport and placing monument at Liaqat Bagh etc (on the name of most corrupt women of entire world, who was kicked out on corruption charges two times, who bargained with corrupt and coward generals to enjoy benefits of NRO, her agenda was not Pakistan but to preserve overseas looted wealth and get clean slip for murderer husband), it is insult of mandate of peoples of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. PML N Punjab government is equally responsible for participating in dirty activities, insulting mandate of peoples of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Think when Nawabshah was named before Benazir, what happened, local peoples threatened to go to courts, so idea was dropped, then why Rawalpindi and Islamabad are target of all PPP’s dirty activities.
Passing bill for the investigation of BB from UN was passed in parliament, it was against sovereignty of Pakistan while on other hand all culprits are still working at their administrative posts and PPP Government let slip out of country not only Shakuit Aziz but ex DG IB too. All suspicious persons involved in murder of BB are still on top posts. PML N became part of controversial issue of investigation through UN, in case it is foreign conspiracy, suspicion goes to neo-imperialists then has UN body such authority to challenge big powers? Moreover Benazir was pleading her overseas patrons and praising brutalities of army generals against peoples of Pakistan. Whether PPP will allow impartial enquiry of BB’s murder, never. Zardari and Mush know actual murderers but it is not in the interest of both. PML N is nothing to do with murder of BB then why it played role of ” Begani Shadi main Abdullah dewana”
Strength of judges increased under nose of PML N in parliament. Now PML N leaders are justifying with lame excuses, on other side PML N leaders were busy in enjoying unopposed elections.

A string of high profile meetings coupled with his speaking engagements at prestigious forums, has been widely discussed back in Pakistan, especially in the PPP drawing rooms…..The range of unprecedented meetings and talks of a lawyers’ leader, not a PM or a president, has led many to ponder questions like how he built this web of influence over US intelligentsia and legislators and who, if anyone, is his lobbyist.

    Dogar strikes again:
SC issues detailed verdict on declaration of emergency rule
The Supreme Court issued on Friday the detailed judgment on a hurriedly-moved review petition challenging the Nov 3 declaration of emergency by President Pervez Musharraf as the army chief….Reaffirming its stand on reinstatement of “former” chief justices and judges of the superior courts, who were not given, or who had not taken, oath under the Oath of Office (Judges) Order, 2007, the judgment said this court had examined the issue with all its ramifications and found that they had ceased to hold their office on Nov 3 last year.

It said: ?Later, by virtue of President?s Orders No 8 and 9 of 2007 dated December 14, 2007, they have been retired and held entitled to draw pensionary benefits accordingly.

    Mush Barks:
I deliberately kept quiet, says Musharraf
An emboldened (by Boucher??) (President Pervez Musharraf on Friday called for dealing with “separatists with force”, tackling terrorism and extremism via a three-pronged strategy and said that he was not going anywhere because he, too, had a role along with political parties to steer the country out of crisis….The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s presence and a hard-hitting speech by Karachi Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal was a clear message to the anti-Musharraf camp in the current dispensation. Representatives of the business community and industrialists also called upon President Musharraf to stand firm against his opponents….
Expressing concern at the rising incidence of terrorism and separatist tendencies in Balochistan, he said that a policy of appeasement towards such elements would not work. “It must be dealt with force,” he said while referring to the emergence of banners calling for an independent Balochistan.

a political party is supposed to run elections if they differ with the previous govt policies.

but i wonder why ppp ran the elections (other than to get there share of power off course)…
they have almost same policies as mush’s
there is no diff at all
1-judiciary …both mush and zardari hate imc equally
    2-laal mosque…bb endorsed the operation
3-so called war on terror and follwoing american agenda ….same policy
4-both mush and ppp are so called liberal progressive .or in other words kanjars.
    5-ppp is rewarding mush’s team e.g hina khar,salman taseer,mdurrani,manzoor watto etc
so why the hell they ask mush to resign…if its just about the jeay bhutto rants in presidency then simple soln is that mush shld jion ppp and shout jeay bhutto in presidency…im sure the beghairet mush wouldnt have any objection

Shahbaz Sharif is the Mole in PMLN
    ============================

Shahbaz is the mole inside PMLN. Just before the long march Shahbaz winked at PPP and asked them to restore judges their own way. He is the power in PMLN that supported the finance bill.

Today Shahbaz is trying to persuade NS to allow PMLN to rejoin the cabinet.

Shahbaz is also doing a lot of doublespeak. He first says that we want judges restored, then adds that we will not break the coalition over the judges issue.

@Amir Hameed - I really hope that Amin Fahim and Aitzaz Ahsan cross over to PPP-SB. They can turn it into a real party. Even though I’m sure Musharraf wants the PPP broken, I think its in the best interest of Pakistan as well.
If they make the return of the CJ and immediate impeachment of Musharraf their top priority they will get a lot of support. Hopefully there would be a domino effect and AZ would be left with nothing.

Wishful thinking but something like this needs to happen SOON. The frustration levels in Pakistan are at a boiling point. People need hope.

PMLN will sink exponentially with zardari’s ppp and I think it has started to sink as well. I was willing to give PMLN some benefit of the doubt in the first three months. Now my doubts are getting assurance with time that both PPP or PZP (whatever) and PMLN are just goofing with the nation.
If PPP is 60% responsible for Musharaf’s stay then PMLN’s part is no less than 40%. And same goes for the judges case.

I really think that we should all get out of this personality based politics and support people who have clarity of views and issues.

Kashif abbasi said it very right in one of his previous episodes that PPP’s stand on judges issue was very clear during their election campaign that was that they were not clear.
And i really think that media can play a very distinct role in eliminating such leaders and parties from pak’s political scene. It took them almost 8 years for Q league. And it will take less for PPP/PMLN if they follow the same footsteps, which they have been so far.

Anonymous Pukhtoon Rora!Very well written. You are so right that no one has and no one will ever supress the Pukhtoons. If you look at the injustices and the discrimination that the Pukhtoons faced in Afghanistan created the “Taliban”.These Tajiks and other shit tribes that think they are a superior race used Taliban to get rid of the Russians. These Persian speaking have no ‘ghairat and naamoos’(seen or read The Kite Runner)Pukhtoons are so under represented even in the current govt. When one is denied even the basic amenties of life(remember Kabul is their most developed city)one does turn to other means of livelihood(opium)to survive. This is not my opinion but heard an interview on National Public Radio of an American reporter with some village in a far-off province who have no roads,no water etc.He qouted a farmer saying that if the Afghan govt.or US per se would bring us roads, electricity, water,we would stop cultivating poppy(opium). I am not a Taliban sympathiser nor agree with their philosophy but one should always try to think what are factors leading to it.”Denial”,”Supression”.Why are Sikhs supporting the idea of Khalistan? Why are Palestinians blowing themselves up?Baluchistan has gas reserves in Sui but suigas is available in every house and every quarter of Islamabad,Punjab,Sindh etc.And when Baluchis react they are called ‘barbaric’wild, crazy people.Anywhere there is denial, there is trouble.I know it is fashionable of people like Amena to label people ‘Taliban sympatiser ‘because she ofcourse wants to be with the ‘in’crowd and not be incarcerated. It takes gutts Amena to argue and explain like our Anonymous pukhtoon brother has done.
    Well done Rora!

One emerging personality in Pak politics is going largely unnoticed these days, Fatima Bhutto.

She is playing an active role behing the scenes in getting the elders of the “snubbed” PPP together to organize a front against AZ. Fatima Bhutto appears to be a pretty savvy operator. She has been silently going about her business, bringing Sassi back, talking to Ilahi Bakhsh Soomro and other elders of PPP.

Please don’t start with the rants about politcal monarchies. I am not advocating one, just giving recognition where due.

The younger Bhuttos ( Zulfi Jr and Fatima) have a long ways to go though.
