actually he was caught hiding in a rat-hole in the desert and then executed for his crimes against humanity, which include using chemical weapons on innocent civilian Kurdish population. he was also previously a loyal CIA agent who was discarded when no longer needed. so how was he a martyr then?

The fact that he was secularist, or that was hated by religiously conservative shiites or that his prime minister was a christian doesn’t make him anything other than an extremist, a barbarian, a….(all those adjectives).
