Hammayun Akhtar has spoken really well.
Jav Chaudhary and Govt Minister, a new entry to glamorous show biz have been protruding their eye balls through out the programme.
When a judge declares verdict in court to settle a dispute between two parties, if his verdict is correct he will be rewarded. However, if he has reached a wrong verdict, with good intention though, will he be punished?
I believe he will still be rewarded because his intention was good. Similarly, if a suicide bomber blows himself up, killing innocent people in the process, he will still be rewarded despite his horrific act because his intention was right. We are making an assumption here that both judge and suicide bomber have taken respective actions after thorough research and they are convinced their actions are correct.
Some people went completely mad when they read my comment on another site. So let me explain my question.
I am not equating judge with a suicide bomber, however I did try to draw an analogy between (wrong) actions of two. I am aware of the fact that suicide bombing is not allowed in Islam.
Having said that, what you believe to be wrong action may not be wrong to others. Whether action is right or wrong is debatable. Even if you reach a certain conclusion there is always possibilty of it being wrong. There are many scholars out there who have spoken in favour of suicide bombings under certain circumstances.
In this context, I want you to make an assumption that suicide bomber tried to find the truth first and he reached a position in favour of suicide bombing. We are also assuming that his intentions were right and he blew himself up solely to achieve the pleasure of Allah. Now, both judge and suicide bomber tried their utmost to get it right but they were both wrong. Please note, they both had good intentions as well i.e. to achieve the pleasure of Allah. They both have made an error and none of them made it deliberately. Why do you believe God will forgive Judge and not suicide bomber then?
This is a hypothetical question and you dont have to get so mad about it. If I have said something wrong, you are most welcome to correct. I believe, if God is going to forgive Judge, he will also have to forgive suicide bomber. After all, none of us has perfect knowledge and we can never even achieve perfect knowledge. And God has promised us that he will not hold us responsible for something we do not know. “Allah does not lay a responsibility on anyone beyond his capacity”. Quran (2:286)
Your comments please, if I am wrong in my perception please point out an error in my judgement.
We are already in war since 9-11(Dummy) and indian agencies are establishing their roots for many years in this region. Both countries cannot afford war in this region. But we should not trust genocides Indian’s we have to defend our country with faith and GOD is with us.
We have to be united like one nation instead of different political parties. This is India cunning move. Nothing has proved yet and we have banned and sealed the offices of jamat u dawa. The Prophet STAWS said my Umma will never come together on a wrong. This is why Ijma (the decision of the majority of Ulema) is binding. Your analogy is flawed for various reasons:
1: a judge listens to both parties and lets them complete their analysis and cross analysis. The suicide bomber usually listens to a one sided story of a minority.
2: The judge has sufficient knowledge of law and legal system, more than the lawyers. The suicide bomber has very limited knowledge of Islam as extended knowledge would not lead him to the wrong conclusion.
It says in the Quran, ‘ask the people of knowledge if you are not knowledgeable’ under this Aayah it becomes compulsory to seek the opinion of the scholars with differing opinion especially when a suicide bomber is planning to kill people not chop onions.
In a situation where a religious decree (fatwa) is wrongfully issued by an individual person or a religious minority, it becomes compulsory by the minority to set that decree correct by ruling against it, if such a decree by the majority is issued, it becomes haraam on the suicide bomber to act upon a decision that is based on his personal understanding or on a decree on an individual or the minority.
Currently, the Ulema of Pakistan by majority, and the Ulema of the world by majority have declared suicide bombings haraam. So even if the suicide bomber does not believe in Ijma as he may be a ghair muqallad he still has duty to investigate the view point of the Ulema who issued a decree against it.
Assuming that truth upon investigation becomes clear will prevail it self, the suicide bomber will come to the conclusion that killing innocent people is haraam simply because Islam is the middle and the sensible way.
So when you have the majority of Ulema saying suicide bombings are haraam and the suicide bomber listens to the minority then he is consciously making an incorrect decision or he has not investigated the matter thoroughly. A judge always goes with the strength of evidence and the number of the testimonies so a suicide bomber should do the same as it’s not possible for 95% of the Ulema to make a mistake collectively.
Lastly there is a hadith that there will be 73 sects in this Ummah and only 1 will go to Jannah. If a person was excused merely on the basis of his understanding or misunderstanding then all 73 should go to jannah. But that will not be the case, a person must have exhausted all his means in order to reach to the truth and if then he makes a mistake then he may be excused.
But given that there is the Ijma of the Ummah currently that suicide bombings are haraam then I can’t see how a suicide bomber could ,make a misinformed decision. There is also the Ijma of the Ummah of the last 1400 years @lofty

God has promised us that he will not hold us responsible for something we do not know. “Allah does not lay a responsibility on anyone beyond his capacity”. Quran (2:286)
@lofty
you didn’t read my response carefully. I’m short of time cos got to go to work tomorrow but a short reply.
A suicide bomber no doubt is declaring Jihaad because with out jihad he can’t attack. He does not have the right to declare Jihad as in modern day Jihad would be declared by the joint decision of the Muftis and the state. The Muftis would give the decree and state would impliment.
Your assumption it self is against the most basic principles of Islam. The suicide bomber can not decide about the legality of his intended action, it has to come from a Mufti. If he is aware or suspects that there might be a difference of opinion amongst the Mufties then he must seek the and follow the fatwa of the majority.
No one would be stupid enough not to realise that there would be seriouse opposition to suicide bombings. However if a person is naieve enough to believe the fatwa of one lone insan Imaam or self professed Mufti as the unanemouse opinion of all the scholars of the land then the sin will lie with the Mufti who in turn would be tried in court for murder. So if there was an isolated group of people who were listening to such religouse leaders then it would become the duty of the state and other scholars to issue a fatwa against them.
Really the assumtion your making is an impossibility. If in reality there are Muslim suicide bombers then they do what they do because of their personal reasons such as loved ones killed by the state etc. Other reason is that these people have a very narrow view about islam and belong to minority sects. They regard them selves correct knowing that the majority Ulema are against their understanding so such people can not be declared innocent.
If some one does make a genuine mistake then Allah can forgive but it will be Allah who will judge his intention.
However I don’t see how a suicide bomber could ever be genuinly mistaken. Not possible.
Also I don’t understand what is it that you seek from that aayah but you must understand that if a suicide bomber arrives at the wrong decision after a through investigation then he is not covered under that aayah because under that aayah he has to seek the oppinion of the Mufties in this matter. So by relying on his own interpration of Islam he is going against that verse of the Quran since he is imposing upon himself a burden that is not intended for him. For an ordinary Muslim, the governing verse is Fasaloo ahlaz zikr in kuntum laa ta’lamoon. Ask thoe people of knowledge if you do not know. This does not mean that if you have the knowledge you can decide for your self, because the fatwa has to come from a Mufti just like a prescription has to come from an MBBS doctor.
neem hakeem khatra-e-jaan neem mulla khatra-e- imaan
I agree with every thing you have said. I was asking a hypothetical question. If you are not prepared to even assume that suicide bomber could take a position in favour of suicide bombing, then there is a little point in discussing the issue.
I have asked a scholar and he agrees with my contention that suicide bomber will not be taken to task for his action. Scholar’s judgement is sensible and is line with other Islamic teachings. Thank you for your reply.
@lofty
That is what I said too.
But I was trying to point out to you that such an instance is almost an impossibility. I had to stress that because of the delicacy of the issue.
Here’s what I said earlier…
If someone does make a genuine mistake then Allah can forgive but it will be Allah who will judge his intention.

you didn’t read my response carefully.
@lofty
That is what I said too.
But I was trying to point out to you that such an instance is almost an impossibility. I had to stress that because of the delicacy of the issue.
Here’s what I said earlier…
If someone does make a genuine mistake then Allah can forgive but it will be Allah who will judge his intention.
