A close friend and long-time financial assistant of President Asif Ali Zardari, Qamar Hussain, has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) – a post which never existed before – and has been made chairman of three important companies owned by the NBP, sources disclosed.
Though presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that appointments were not made by the Presidency but by the government, NBP President Ali Raza ruled out any political intervention in the appointment of Qamar Hussain.
