It is quiet possible PM Gillani’s meeting with Zardari will turn the table within next few hrs.

I dont think this dharna will be as peaceful as portrayed by some supporters of the movement.

    Short-term victory seems to PPP’s.

Longterm – who knows , but Zardari is certainly out !!

Does anyone know if CJP would be reinstated, when he would be retiring from office?

I don’t know if any of the top lawyer or political leadership has raised the point that last two years of CJP out of the office MUST be compensated for.

Last but not the least, I wish I would see Imran Khan as the PM and Aitzaz Ahsan as President. Yeah, you may call it “Judges Party”

As a cricket fanatic back in 1980′s and 1990′s, I always thought that Imran Khan was never become a good captain since his game and particularly his batting was too aggressive all the times. How little I knew. And thanks God I was so wrong. I would thank God again if he would become PM against all odds.

This is strange. I thought Shujaat’s pulling out of senate race and meeting with American ambassador yesterday signals an understanding b/w PPP and Q to form coalition in Punjab. Moonis Elahi being the cheif minister since senate chairmainship goes to PPP.

But now he is meeting with Nisar. I’m so lost. These ppl are something special!

Rather than agreements on Zardari’s DELAY TACTICs / TIME GAINING Policies you are not ready to recognize Ch.Iftikhar as CJ, YOU, Zardari just because of your STUPID ACTS this simple matter has been formed as WHEEL within WHEELS, now this is a matter of NOW or NEVER.

    - The Ministry of Interior has warned Sharif brothers that their lives are under threat and they should avoid addressing public rallies
    - However Nawaz Sharif had disclosed to a British newspaper that they (Nawaz and Sharif) were under threat from some elements of the government.

PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has accused the government of running an “elected dictatorship” that is plotting to kill him.

Sharif told the British newspaper in an interview that Asif Ali Zardari, the president, was ruling under a cloak of democracy but his policies would only benefit extremist elements.

“I have recently received certain information from own sources, credible sources, about certain forces who are active against me,” Sharif said.

“Threats to my life come from high-ranking government officials, certain topmost people in the government, my sources say.” He declined to give further details.

“The risks are there. I can’t abandon my mission because of the risks. It’s a very noble cause. A mission to put the country back on the road to democracy,” he said

It is similar to Musharraf providing security for Benazir and then poor her getting killed. I hope everyone remains unharmed in this. In the last long march, it was demonstrated that we, Pakistnais, can also have peaceful protests but this time the mood of the government is not good. God help us all and protect the protestors from harm.

I know many so called liberal people of our civil society who supported the Lal Masjid massacre… God these people cannot accept hijab or Islam just because they want everything their way. What makes them different from Taliban? Both are rigid and inflexible.

  • afzaalkhan said:

    @pak.nukes
exactly my point, extreme idelogy be it liberal, religious or any other form is all bad. Islam teaches us to be in middle, in balance, Quran states everything has created in universe in balance and we should strive to keep this balance,

Prophet PBUH said, be like me, i fast and dun fast, i stay up all night praying and sleep on other nights, i eat simple and i eat with oil. Point is keep balance, dun become overtly zelot in anything.

    update from The News

KARACHI: Lawyers and activists of political parties began long march for the restoration of judiciary as arrests continued unabated across the country on Thursday.

Police baton-charged activists and manhandled dozens into vans in Karachi, as thousands defied the government in a mass protest. The Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Prof. Ghafoor Ahmad, Asadullah Bhutto and Mohammad Hussain Mehenti, president Karachi Bar Muhammad Ali Abbasi, general secretary Naeem Qureshi and many other political workers have been arrested from Karachi.

Earlier, a large number of lawyers gathered outside Sindh High Court (SHC) from where long march was kicked off. A rally of lawyers, headed by Rasheed A. Rizvi, left for Mazar-e-Quaid at 12pm from Sindh High Court Bar room. Police had sealed all the routes leading to City Court before the protestors arrived there.

Lawyers in black suits and opposition party activists carrying flags and punching their fists in the air marched in Karachi and Lahore, demanding that President Asif Ali Zardari reinstate sacked judges.

Around 2,000 lawyers, political workers and civil activists rallied in Lahore. The lawyers’ leader, Aitzaz Ahsan, said people were determined to flout the government’s invoking of a 19th century British law banning rallies.

“Today we have defied Section 144. It shows public morale is very high and they will reach Islamabad on March 16,” Ahsan said.

Hundreds of thousands of lawyers, opposition supporters and civil activists will join a four-day convoy on the 1,500 kilometers (940 miles) route from Karachi to Islamabad, where it is intended to arrive Monday.

Meanwhile, lawyers gathered in district court Quetta. The President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Ali Ahmad Kurd is leading the long march which began at 12pm from District Court. There was no obstacle from the provincial government and the march went on smoothly. The PML-N, Pashtoonkhwa Mili Awami Party, PTI and other political parties’ activists are participating in the long march.

“Karachi march is maatha and hopeless”

Don’t worry, reall momentum will develop from Multan to Lahore and escpecially from Lahore to Islamabad, because it is really difficult to manage logistics of necessties from Karachi to Islamabad, distance between karachi to islamabad is more than 1700 KM. InshaAllah, reall battle of RIGHT and WRONG will start form Lahore and will end on Constitution Avenue with end of this fascist govt and restoration of 2nd November Judiciary.

    - 16.45 The lawyers’ caravan has reached Sohrab Goth where police have already closed all exit points by erecting barricades.

A large number of arrests are expected to be made here. According to sources, police is searching every vehicle carrying more than four people.

Pictures and comments can be sent to BBC from the above link (at the bottom of the page). Zardari and his gang will off course mainly be pressurized through the valiant Pakistanis protesting against his civilian dictatorship. We can also have a fair contribution by further disturbing AZ’s image abroad. We will gain more support for the struggle for true democracy. There is no doubt that the Western governments in general don’t support democracy in Pakistan (only in words, but actions are in contrast to the statements), but we can gain the support of the western public and different other groups.

PML-Q agrees to cooperate with PPP on Punjab govt.

The sources noted the meeting took place hours after US Ambassador Anne W Patterson had called on PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and discussed ways and means with him to defuse the prevailing political situation.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari and briefed him about his discussions with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The decision is likely to result in unopposed election of PPP’s candidate Farooq H. Naek as the Senate chairman and PML-Q’s Jan Mohammad Jamali as his deputy.

The decision has offended the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, which had planned to field Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri as its candidate for the top Senate slot.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik held a meeting with JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the latter agreed to withdraw his candidate. It is believed that in return the JUI will get one or two more ministries at the centre.

Like any other significant leader they face a genuine threat of killed, but they are also facing another threat from the so called “friends” of Pakistan, who time and gain interfere in Pakistans internal affairs. They will try to make different “lucrative” offers to both NS and SS to derail the Long March and dharna. These evil forces know that if the biggest party among the opposition finds a way out, then their evil designs will prevail. My hope is that the leadership of PML-N stay firm – just like they have been until now – and defy all these criminal elements to save Pakistan out of the clutches of opportunists from PPP and MQM. Single act of giving justice to some poor non muslim in an Islamic state imo is a great act to earn the favors of God. This act alone has more weight than altogether praying 5 times & fasting in Ramadhan & performing Huj

Bulleh Shah did not say for no reason that “Namaz Parhn kam zanana”
Praying namaz is a womanly thing.
Some thought he was disrespecting Namaz–People do not understand the depth of his philosophy–He meant Humanitarian act has much more weight than rituals.

Now everyday leaders will be arrested and from many sources it is confirmed that on 15th all leadership will be arrested…..what then?

Imagine Ch. Aitizaz Hussain fees is between 200,000 to 300,000 rupees, what interest he has with poor Pakistani. His children are outside the country getting education and he is living a lavish life in Pakistan. Similar goes to the rest of leaders and so called laywers movement.

    I have 2 observations here;

    1) You seem a) very biased towards PPP….and b) very favorable towards PML-N.
Shouldn’t you rather have a neutral stance on issues?

    2) How come the majority of programs you have here are punjab/punjabi related? Don’t they have political anchors and programs in Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP?

According to my sources, JI adopted same strategy as TK mentioned. They have instructed their workers to reach ISB and Rawalpindi by private means before 15th March latest at the day of 15th March and resides at their relatives houses, offices, or in adjacent cities so that can reach at constitution avenue. So let’s see how much JI will show its power.
But one thing is good, atleast after a long time JI stand with those forces who are anti-establishment. :)

This long march represents the great potential for positive change that still exists in Pakistan and that the corrupt and criminal establishment has not been able to extinguish in 60 years of trying. Every dictator in Pakistan has faced genuine democratic resistance and while the process has been slow, it is definitely accelerating. So, on this axis, positive change is coming to Pakistan.
Unfortunately, on the Y axis, the Islamic Khmer Rouge (aka mujahideen) have also made progress. It is a race against time. If the suicidal establishment (and their EXTREMELY short-sighted and ignorant managers in the US embassy) fails to see their own long term interest and continues to happily saw away at the limb on which they are sitting, then everything may crash into the hands of Khmer Rouge one day. Otherwise, there is hope…
Unfortunately, even in today’s NY Times, you can see a good example of the kind of blinkered, stereotypical and superficial bullshit that passes for analysis in the foreign media: Jane Perlez describes the Zardari PPP as “the secular party” and casts doubts on Nawaz Sharif’s ability to “fight the insurgency”. It would be hilarious if it wasnt so tragic.

The crime of CJ was precisely that he was giving justice to the poorest of the poor. Who can forget the Munno Bhel case, where the suo-motto notice by CJ shook the whole administration.

The most recent survey again confirms that a vast majority of people in all parts of Pakistan overwhelmingly support CJ.

So it is pathetic that supporters of MQM try to paint it as a ounjab issue.

This way there will be thousands of sit-in happening all over Pakistan at the same time. The aim is to bring evrything to a stand still and bring the government to its knees.

Seems to be a good idea.

I was shocked to see Fauzia – she didnt know at all anything about politics but just was trying to score her points and make a fool of herself. She didnt even know what was AAA 270 article of 1973 consititution and said she was only responsible of what happened after 16th March 2008 and not before that.

But most shocking was that there are rumours that Justice Qayyum is being offered Attorney General Post again. Remember the father of Justice Qayyum was the that judge who hanged Bhutto. I had never realised that PPP would stoop so low that it would outrightly disregard Bhutto and BB like that. Fauzia was saying that BB never called for Civil Disobedience -. The PPP guys have become so begharat that its shocking to see them and now we pray that Goverment of Zardari should finish as soon as possible. These guys have absolutely no insight into what is happeneing.

ok guys now first days evaluation, i have read in some blog that almost 1000 people were in Karachi and about 400-500 people are with Kurd started from quetta..karachi is a city of 12 million ..ok forget about karachi due to Mqm factor, PPP govt etc.

in quetta there was no crack down…in news reports almost 10 parties name are written who started with kurd..it meas that each has only 50 people

thats disappointing very much..its true that we were not expecting 1 million from quetta/karachi but i was expecting about 4000-5000 from quetta and about 10000 from karachi …so it is poor performance by political parties and Lawyers on first day..i wonder on 16th there will 2000-3000 (may be less) in Islamabad because everyone will be arrested and blocked outside Islamabad..this is long march??????????????

Some explosive articles in Friday’s “the news” by Rauf Klasra and Tariq Butt. Here is the snap shot:

    by Tariq Butt
“…In a chance encounter with PML-N MNA Abid Sher Ali in a corridor of the National Assembly on Wednesday, the prime minister sounded as if he was going to accept all the demands of the lawyers and opposition.

“Abid Sher, what do you want? You certainly don’t want Abdul Hameed Dogar as the chief justice. You want Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as the chief justice, you want the implementation of the Charter of Democracy, and you want lifting of governor’s rule. Will you be happy if all this is done?” the prime minister asked.

The MNA said that not only the PML-N, civil society and opposition parties would be satisfied but also the entire Pakistani nation would be happy if the steps were taken by the government…”

and this one by Rauf Klasra
“….Gilani has reportedly been given 24 hours to convince Zardari into agreeing to the new political and constitutional arrangement, as further delay will not produce any positive results for the political forces currently on the warpath.

After several rounds of talks with the key political players, officials disclosed, the US ambassador and the UK high commissioner to Pakistan came up with a new formula to bring the perilous situation under control. Gilani was tasked with taking Zardari into confidence on the salient features of the accord.

The Punjab governor would be a likely casualty of the deal, one insider disclosed, suggesting that Salmaan Taseer might be shown the door. Just like Zardari, Taseer is seen as a major hurdle to normalisation of the working relationship between the PPP and the PML-N….”

What an SOB Asfandyar Wali is:

… Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali on Thursday said President Asif Ali Zardari had accepted two demands of the PML-N for which modalities were being finalised to initiate the reconciliatory process.

Talking to journalists outside the Parliament House here, he said there was a need for improving the system and this could only be achieved while setting aside personal gains and keeping the national interests supreme.

“We need to do something in the larger interest of the country and expedite our efforts to make the system better,” Asfandyar said. When asked about the time frame, he said no time limit existed in political agreements. …

So, according to him, the nation does not need an improved judiciary and as long as the politicians can get along, the nation will do good. I am sure that if his bank accounts are audited, we will find evidence of his support for the snake.

BTW, Zardari can’t afford to fire YRG even if he has MQM votes…

a new vote of confidence in the current scenario would be a whole new ball game.

“I believe that YRG will have support from PML-N.”

Remember YRG is also the parliamentary leader of PPP. If he is asked to take a confidence vote, whoever from ppp caucas votes against him can technically be disqualified due to the imposition of 14 amendment provided he musters up more than half of the PPP votes on his side. All the PPP cabinet members including parliamentary committee heads can only vote in his favor or they will be fired right away. The situation is emerging to this scenario quite rapidly and this weekend we will witness some really exciting things happening.

You can’t be neutral on a fast moving train :) But seriously, Regarding bias towards PPP: Come on, don’t blame the admin for it. All credit goes to PPP itself. Quickly and honestly :
1: Name one good thing PPP has done in the past year.
2: Name one PPP minister who is not an utter moron
    3. Name one PPP leader/spokesperson who is not an utter kunjar/lying piece of sh!t

Bolta Pakistan, Off The Record, Kal Tak, Islamabad Tonight, Capital Talk, Meray Mutabiq, Live with Talat, Left Right, Jaweb Deh, 4 Man Show, 50 Minutes, Second Opinion, News Guru, Siyasi Log, Choraha, Column Kar, Focus with Faeza, Newsmaker are hardly “punjab/punjabi related”.

Just curious though: Which of these programs do you consider “punjab/punjabi related” as I am having difficulty figuring it out.

What are you talking about. There is plenty of things PPP have done. Please see my answers below

1: Name one good thing PPP has done in the past year.
Ans : Broken all promises. Proclaim governor rule in Punjab. Make rangeela judge of Islamabad Court. Have the biggest cabinet in Pakistan’s history. Just take a look at the list and you wanna puke (http://www.pak.gov.pk/ministers.aspx).

2: Name one PPP minister who is not an utter moron
Ans: All PPP ministers are super intellectuals. All you have to do is listen to them. To name the best brains, Rehman Malik, Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan, Farooq H. Naek, Sardar Nabeel Ahmed Gabol etc etc. I am sure the space will finish but the intellectuals of PPP will not finish

    3. Name one PPP leader/spokesperson who is not an utter kunjar/lying piece of sh!t
(remember I said quickly and honestly)
Though there are many. Look at my list in ans 1. The cream of them are H.E. Muhtharam Asif Ali Zardari, Salman Taseer & Rehman Malik

Please stop giving PPP a bad name. Look at the qurbanian that they ahve done for the country.
