TIME: The key element in President Barack Obama’s Afghanistan strategy is getting Pakistan to fight the Taliban on its side of the border. But despite the Administration demanding a more concerted effort against militants on Pakistani soil as a condition for further aid to Pakistan’s military — and warnings by Centcom commander General David Petraeus and others that the Taliban threatens to destroy Pakistan as a state — many in Washington and beyond are skeptical that Pakistan will cooperate. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1889179,00.html
ECONOMIST: For Mr Obama, the Pakistani side of the lawless Pashtun belt poses the biggest threat to global security. The most senior Taliban and al-Qaeda leaders are ensconced there, and they must not be allowed to retake power in Afghanistan. Iraq has diverted America’s attention, money and troops; these must now be redirected to what American officials call “Af-Pak”. http://www.economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=13415301
Mr. Obama can wish for whatever he wishes and spend his borrowed billions in the sink hole of Afghanistan and Pakistan ‘s tribal belt-
Zardari can con him to his heart’s content-( and for the benefit of his big accounts in Dubai etc)-
But they will fail in dominance over the Pushtoon population both in Pakistan and Afghanistan and history will repeat itself and they will have to leave .
The liberal and business elite of Pakistan will go down with the foreigners . The biggest loser will be India where the the bubble of economic miracle will burst.
The sooner everyone accepts this- the better for everyone and better for peace in the region
Now pentagon has proposed $3 billion military assistance for Pakistan to help Pakistan kill more people. Is there anyone who really cares about Pakistan?
Is the money everything that we need right now?
Given the style of extremist tendencies in the Frontier region, it requires some concerted effort to normalize the situation. However, expecting inefficient and corrupt PPP government to deliver is a big ask.
@Awam,
Number one!! 3B on what price? As per Pakistani American urdu weekly newpapers Pakistan Post, April 2nd 2009 issue, ex-American presidential republican candidate , senator John Mecain said that US aid to Pakistan, will not reach to deserving people.

BISMILLA-HIR-RAHMA-NIR-RAHEEM
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmatu- -
According to published news, Pakistan already receives $4 billion / year from its own citizens who are living abroad.
$1 B / year is like a lolly pop.
I wonder, why we are even bothering with it.
