@noman habib: I think Pakistan does not need to interfere within Afghanistan. If US/Nato is ousted from Afghanistan, right now, the first thing that will happen is, Afghani Taliban will take over.
That will automatically ensure that Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan is secure, since Afghani Taliban are not against Pakistan.
We need to allow people in Afghanistan to choose a path for themselves. They deserve to have as many chances as they want. If people of Afghanistan dethrone Taliban, that would be ok, since it would be the decision of locals from Afghanistan. I’m sure they’ll do it, since Taliban do not like democracy.
But, you are right, we need to keep an eye on Afghanistan, so pro US/Nato elements do not come into power there, because that WILL allow for Afghanistan and Pakistan to remain destabilized, even after US/Nato’s exit.
However what we do need to do is to rehabilitate those people, re-integrate those people in our society, who were gathered for Jihad in the 80s.

I share your feelings but I think what you propose will not be applicable. since ppp also supported and created taliban during their regime. JI and others still support them, while PML was also part of the same ideology before during zia’s time.

@noman habib: I think Pakistan does not need to interfere within Afghanistan. If US/Nato is ousted from Afghanistan, right now, the first thing that will happen is, Afghani Taliban will take over.
That will automatically ensure that Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan is secure, since Afghani Taliban are not against Pakistan.
We need to allow people in Afghanistan to choose a path for themselves. They deserve to have as many chances as they want. If people of Afghanistan dethrone Taliban, that would be ok, since it would be the decision of locals from Afghanistan. I’m sure they’ll do it, since Taliban do not like democracy.
But, you are right, we need to keep an eye on Afghanistan, so pro US/Nato elements do not come into power there, because that WILL allow for Afghanistan and Pakistan to remain destabilized, even after US/Nato’s exit.
However what we do need to do is to rehabilitate those people, re-integrate those people in our society, who were gathered for Jihad in the 80s.
I understand the need to create a private Mujahideen force to fight wars, when official armies of countries like ours’ cannot do it, because of failures on part of politicians.
I also recognize the need to rehabilitate those people, who were gathered to do Pak and Afghan Army’s job in the 80s.

I share your feelings but I think what you propose will not be applicable. since ppp also supported and created taliban during their regime. JI and others still support them, while PML was also part of the same ideology before during zia’s time.
As a matter of fact, every political party once supported the Taliban in one way or the other, with exception of MQM i think. Some still support them while others are accused of being followers of same “maslak”, and PPP now is totally against them although they created them. PPP did not create talibans; ISI did under Gen Hameed Gul. Like PPP we all are victims of ISI mistake which created Talibans for their strategic depth. This term “strategic depth” has been very costly and lethal for Pakistan.
By the way talibans are new generations of so-called Mujahideen who fought war against Soviets with the help of US and Pakistan financed by Saudi money. 3 million Afghan refugees came to Pakistan during 1980′s Fasad; does anyone know how many stayed here or how many went back? Probably answer is NO. No one knows their registration and it is a messy situation. How many talibans are Afghan (or other foreigners) and how many are Pakistani?
Time has now come to wipe out Talibans and other terrorist networks from Pakistan as our lenient approach has been misused by these groups and they have re-grouped and strengthened themselves in the FATA and NWFP.
