Pakistan No. 10 in Failed States Index

With the worst governace, lack of transparency and flourishing corruption at the top level, Pakistan has been ranked as No. 10. in Failed States Index of 177 countries. Other countries in top 10 rankings are Somalia, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Chad, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central African Republic and Geinea.

Whenever a foreigner comes to Pakistan every body tries to convince him that every one in Pakistan is corrupt. That’s what happened to Yousaf Estes (An American priest converted to Islam). Yousaf asked that Pakistani guy if his father was corrupt, his mother was corrupt, or his brothers were corrupt. The guy replied no every one is corrupt except me and my family.

I am not surprised… Corruption is not a problem in Pakistan only… Corruption is a global phenomenon but it is deeply rooted especially in the sub continent. The main reason for it is poverty and the difference between rich and poor. Having said that I would also blame the Goverment for this ranking because what else do you expect when a corrupt person is ruling the country and sitting in the presidential palace?

Just like how Army is fighting terrorism CJ needs to play his role in fighting this menace. Key is in the hands of CJ and his “free and fair” judicial system.

Agghh, but I am talking logic here and blind-hatred doesn’t know that.

PS. As they say, ‘it is going to get worse before it gets better.’ Pakistani State has just started its own Civil War. Sri Lanka–a much smaller country with a much smaller population–fought it for a quarter century. Sri Lankans suffered a lot of casualties–in tens of thousands, a huge number for a small population compared to Pakistan–but they persevered. Pakistan, too, will have to pay the price. There will be ‘blood, sweat, and tears’ but the price will be paid. The end result could only be an exorcism wherein the ghosts of the so-called Jihad of the 80s are finally sent to hell.
