Well, this instalment of Live with Talat shows exactly what goes on in the minds of people outside Pakistan. The gora panelist could at least differentiate between Salafism/Wahabism and the rest of Islam. He knew exactly that it was a Salafi or Wahabi war rather than a war by Islam against the West.
One of the audience – the young gentleman of middle eastern origin – raised the question about the nature of infighting in Pakistan. He asked if the suicide bombings inside Pakistan were a Pushtoon-Punjabi war or was it something else. In reply, Talat said he wondered himself that on one hand the extremists say that they are fighting against America however, on the other hand they kidnap Chinese engineers in Pakistan, which belies logic.
Taking the point about the nature of this war further, no one in the audience or on the panel (all educated people) would even stray towards the stupid logic forwarded by Taliban Khan and the likes that since Taliban think Pakistani government is siding with America (that is, if we presume that Taliban have some kind of monopoly or thekay daari on Islam), therefore they are lauching suicide attacks on innocent people in Pakistan. And how does Taliban Khan and the likes explain the sectarian killings at the hands of Taliban including cold blooded slaughter of Dr Sarfraz Naeemi?
Nobody of sane mind in this world would ever accept this logic that since Taliban are the torch bearers of Islam that’s why they have the right to fight against the Pakistani government if they think the government is siding with America.
For those people who accept this stupid logic that Taliban’s suicide attacks on innocent civilians is in reaction to:
1) Pak becoming the frontline state in the war on terror
and
2) American intervention in Afghanistan
I might accept this logic if Taliban kill Imran Khan in a suicide attack and accept the responsibility. Because if I accept Imran Khan’s logic that Taliban are just reacting and reaction doesn’t follow logic then Taliban would be justified in killing him as well.
But then some people would say to me that Taliban are not going to kill Imran Khan because he is their biggest supporter then I would ask them the following question. Does that not mean that Taliban do follow some kind of logic even when they are reacting. Then what logic do they follow when they kill innocent civilians and when they are involved in sectarian killings?
When would people realise that Imran Khan is not infallible, he is an ordinary human being who can make wrong decisions and live in some kind of fallacy where he thinks that Taliban are the actual defenders of Islam while the common man in the street is ignorant about the cause of Islam and it’s ok if Taliban kill such ignorant muslim.
When would people realise that Imran Khan might be defending Taliban because he has something in common with them i.e. both are deobandi.
Why can’t people accept that he might be deceiving us????????
Why don’t some people accept this logic even as a possibility?
The ambassador from Jordan was a nightmare. The lack of intellect in Muslim world is frightening. If all our education system are producing people who live in fantasy world than we are surely doomed. How come our societies are producing people who in this day and age don’t have access to widely available information? They live and breathe conspiracy theories and refuse to look inwards. No wonder Muslims are living in decline the world over. Banda unphar hojaie magir jahil nahie hona chahiye. I wish I can translate this for the honorable diplomat so she can hang it on the wall in her office.
Talat proved himself an international level anchor. Excellent program.
War on terrorism is a war between Alqaida and US. AQ attacked USS Cole and US Embassy in Kenya. US retaliated with missiles striking a camp in Afghanistan, where Kashmiri millitants were under training. Finally AQ carried out 9/11, which was aimed at crippling US economy. Since then Pakistan’s nightmare started. After 8 years of halfhearted attempts in Afghanistan to wipe out AQ leadership, US shifted the epicenter of war in Pakistan to reverse the pattern of millitant movement. Now it’s a proxy war between AQ and US on our soil and at the expense of our blood. We a re trapped as if we stay neutral US will blackmail us by asking to send their troops to kill AQ. If we side with AQ, that will be like declaring a war against US. We are apparently trying the last option by siding with US and fighting AQ and their slaves, TTP.
The main source of finance for AQ/ TTP seems to be coming from charities in the middle-east and Russian drug mafia supplying arms and money in return of drugs to disseminate in Europe. There could be some more actors to supply arms to both sides akin to the Iran-Iraq war.
Almost all of our leaders in Pakistan are afraid of telling the truth to common people as they suspect that in this case people might chose to side with AQ, being influenced by Nasim Hijazi’s syndrome. Therefore many conspiracy theories are in the market to confuse the masses.
