So, the amendments to the Pemra law following the Nov 3 action are void abinitio which in turn is tantamount to Contempt of court if pursued by the govt. Consequently, it would pave the way for the validation of the Nov 3 emergency. More disturbing is the fact that some N-league members have also supported the PPP on this issue. This is where my friend “aftab’s” observations on American pressure and the completion of the 5 year zardari term creeps in. This issue on curbing media freedom, in my opinion, is an outcome of the latest Nawaz-Zardari meeting. All politicians/generals are the same. They haven’t learnt anything from the past and have thrown Pakistan into a bottomless pit. Only if the media remains united and kick out the blacksheeps associated with their channels/newspapers, there’s no way this exercise of passing this draconian piece of legislation would be a walk in the park for the Mr.10% and Co.
