I am very sorry Admin but your question does not make any sense neither do the options that you have given. May be you should have said “what do you think SHOULD happen to majority of NRO cases?”
Better to write the options, based on goverment persepective:
1- Goverment will withdraw all the cases and ask courts that it is not going to pursue them.
2- Supreme court will end all idemnities given based on NRO and will ask the courts to re-open the cases, even if goverment is not interested.
3- Option 2, excluding Zardari.
4-PM Gilani will sack all his advisors and ministers got acquittal based on NRO.
Good to see active participation. The original purpose was to see the sentiment about:
1- Are NRO cases frivolous as claimed by PPP (acquittal)
2- Have higher courts really evolved themselves (suo moto, fast judgment)
3- Is government playing topi drama with NRO (withdrawal)
Can you help reshape the poll in the light of above issues

Clearly the courts are still far away from the people expectations, developed before the judges restoration. It is is because of the political culture being evolved in our country, if SC decides something now against Zardari, it will be considered as “siasi intiqaam” and if it doesnt do anything, then the same media and same people will call it that SC is doing nothing and Nazir N aji type people will claim that IC was just after saving his seat..Its just like when NS was doing nothing against Zardari, he was called to be a friendly oppostion and when says something against the goverment the same people start naming it that they are going back to 90’s politics. Also , to fulfill court orders is the responsibility of goverment machinery , which is already against independent courts.
My analysis is that all Judiciary, Government(Gilani), Army(establishment), opposition(NS) are not at all trusting each other and also waiting at the same time that who other takes action against Zardari first without hitting his interests.. None of them wants to see zardari in power, but at the same time donot want to destabilize the country, as in this case their own interests could be put at stake. So just pressure tactics are being under use to force Zardari to resign smoothly…
Regarding this NRO, now when PPP has failed to approve it from the court so it is also not clear 100% about its future, it is trying to be show itself strong but infact they are afraid of the SC .
No doubt in it that SC will decide against Zardari as all the political forces, Army , opposition and judiciary itself are against zardari . But to tackle the possible political pressure, judiciary may first cut the wings of zardari, by sacking all his close “NROzada” friends, then later on after watching the outcome of this decision it could decided for zardari with in few months..
Musharraf in his last days was also attending such meetings and showing himslef very strong but soon he had to first get off his uniform and then resign. USA always back corrupt and weak goverments but it has policy of toppling the very weak goverments soon as the weak goverment could also lead to a Iran type revolution…
@buntybaba:
Exactly, no one dares to take a clear stand on it; SC doesnt want to label itself with antiZardari or you may say dont want to be blamed itself for a crisis. Similarly, Government after failing NRO approval would wait for SC move, and in fact this is our national attitude towards the problems that we always try to shift burdens to others, no decision power and courage to face the issues, we always look for other shoulders and backings.. SC will never decide until other stake holders give a green signal for that, no matter how independent it is.
This is like the day of the judgment for the current “peoples” judiciary , which was brought back into power by thousands of Pakistanis sacrifices from all walks of lives. The lawyers were burnet alive in Karachi by the MQM commandos, showing their power and allegiances with the ‘Tin Commando”, the American sponsored “strongman”, Mush the Urdu speaking, “Sindhi” dictator, who claimed that his uniform was his skin.
This judiciary has to work day and night to flush out the human garbage from the choked political pipe line of the Pakistani political system, by simply providing the justice in favor of the people vs. the corrupt political ethnic, feudal, religious, military, and family Mafia’s of Pakistan.
These rotten bodies are stuck in the arteries of the Pakistani political heart and about to shut down the heart or give a massive political hart attack or cause stroke to the current system based on democratic principals. It has to be surgically removed on the emergency basses to save the life of the country and the sanity of the poor and miserable , majority people of Pakistan.
Majority of the political zombies , the old timers, the leaches, the parasites, the vampires sucking the life of Pakistani people by steeling them blind, mismanagement, incompetence, deal making, lying, cheating on their taxes, by keeping their money and children in safe havens of Europe, America and Gulf estates, by using Pakistan as a cow to milk when they need it and then sell it to the slaughter house of the “Western War Mongers” for the flush, hides and bones, after milking it to near death.
NRO prosecutions can be the beginning of accountability on the emergency basses and in record time to save a sinking ship and then use this model of accountability for the rest of the criminal political Mafia’s and have them submit all their properties, national and international on the family Mafia basses and have them all justify their lifestyles vs. their “legit” sources of income.
We are running out of time, these political prostitutes and so called “Leaders”, or Family mafia Bosses are tearing Pakistan apart and filling their foreign bank accounts with billions of dollars and they all are one exit away to leave Pakistan behind and Pakistani people as bag holders.
Number one thing the Pakistani Judiciary must do to have all these peoples Passports revoked until the final judgments of their cases, including the “International” deal maker and the poorest Pakistani leader worth $61 in the bank Nawaz Sharif the money launderer and a agent of the Saudi Royal international Family Mafia of lifelong dictators and Western agents.
Pakistan is so lucky in a way that the 90% political prostitutes and the Mafias are corrupt and can be dealt by the justice system. If you study the demise of the American and the Italian Mafia, it was not by the sharp shooting sheriffs and the police action, it was all done via the Internal Revenue Systems, audits of the ill gained monies and all of them were found guilty of embezzlements and tax frauds.
We can flush out this rotting human garbage called the perpetual family based Pakistani political “juggernaut” in a record time and set an example for the next generation of Politicians.

The emotional turmoil, which the nation was going through over the fate of ethical standards in accountability norms and the threat of the widening gulf between justice and law, appear to be easing with indications by the government that it will not seek validation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) through parliament. With this decision, the NRO will stand repealed on the expiry of a period of four months from July 31, 2009 — the date of the short order of the Supreme Court (SC) in which the November 3, 2007 proclamation of emergency and related PCO was declared void ab initio. The decision will be a positive step indeed and can help in fostering a positive environment for the establishment of an accountability framework within the country. It must be recognised, however, that although necessary, this is not a sufficient step to overcome the myriad of challenges that stand in the way of developing a legal, policy, and institutional framework for mainstreaming accountability in governance.
Before these challenges and the opportunities are discussed, two things about the NRO must be appreciated. First, the decision of parliament is, in a way, irrelevant with respect to the individuals who were eligible to derive benefit from the NRO, as benefits acquired, accrued, or incurred under the ordinance during the first four months of is validity have already been derived. The repeal of a law does not, according to the Constitution’s Article 264 “affect any right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired, accrued or incurred under the law.” Secondly, it is also apparent that by not declaring “the NRO void ab initio for being ultra vires of the Constitution,” as explained by a legal expert in these columns on October 26, and by referring the matter to parliament, the Supreme Court — the two pending petitions notwithstanding — has refrained from ruling on its legal validity. If the SC had held that the law was invalid, the outcomes would have been different altogether. What’s done is done. It is time to chart the way forward.

The most important thing for the Obama administration to bear in mind when dealing with Pakistan is that anyone they are likely deal with in Islamabad or Rawalpindi is likely to be delusional about the state of their own country.
The top brass of the Pakistan army does not really believe in the existence of any threat to the state except that of an Indian invasion. (Never mind that Pakistan started all four of its wars with India, driven partly by the ludicrous belief that “one Pakistani is worth ten Indians.”)
“Pakistani military officials will not take the Taliban threat seriously unless black-turbaned gunmen are actually assaulting army HQ in Islamabad”
— or until the U.S. finally turns the money tap off and threatens to intervene. All the chaos the ISI and Pakistani special forces have created in Afghanistan is justified in their eyes by the need for “strategic depth” against India. America’s involvement in the region is assumed to be temporary; everyone knows how Americans tend to get bored and disappear.
Nothing will happen except Mr. Sehbai and people like Shahid Masood will get some position in present Govt like Ambassador to United States or similar to that.
There must be an option Hang at the spot if convicted , I am with that option Hang Zardari and Rehman Malik convicted or not convicted. Both of them are bunch of losers.
the cases will not open automatically after the NRO has lapsed at the end of this month. They will reopen only when the supreme court rules that the NRO is a discriminatory law n coz it is contrary to the constituion, it is held void ab inito. The reason behind is that once a law is made n ppl have derived benefit from it, that benefit is not nullified when the law is repealed, the benefit stays unless it is held that the law was never technically ‘law’. hopefully the SC will do so n the cases against rehman malik n co will reopen
@inam ul haq jazbaat ko control karen sirr
if hanging is an option imran khan could be hanged under article 6 for aiding and abetting musharraf(since khan saab was his chief supporter b4 the referrendum) who subverted n abrogated the constitution of pakistan
I think a lot depends on the role of media along with political figures. The way they react to the NRO in the next few months will be important to see as a good article I read this morning in the FRONTIER POST is that the NRO is not dead yet as it a live wire. If the media plays a positive role and not give NRO this much publicity and handle the situation wisely maybe we can come to a conclusion that will be helpful to Pakistan as a whole.
@bilal:
This article 6 is invoked only if the treason fails ; but we know that musharraf succefulyy toppled NS government, (just my opinion based on our past experiences) . Secondly, IK supported him just by words, not aided him as other goverment employees did that. If that 99 treason case is registered then whole nation will be involved in it; as the political parties who participated election under his supervision and the voters who casted their votes..
come on guys why bother concentrating on these useless debates…..What will happen to NRO cases this is purely the problem of zaradri and co at the moment….the media has played its part and given the message so loud and clear to saain zardaro that it just isnt possible to avoid it anymore……
jo hoga sab kuch din main dekh lain ge….we have already got enough in our plate to content with…..so just relax and enjoy the show…..finally we go back to the SC with some exciting possible outcomes…..fingers crossed!
only thn i beleive in this AZAAD ADLIYA ki ratt jo k pichlay kaee dino say media ki viewership main izafay ka bais banee thee…azzad adliya azaad adliya……ab daikhtay hain chaowee sahab kia kartay hain……!!
NOTHING WILL HAPPEN… ZARDARI WILL KEEP ON BUYING LAND OF PAK AT LOW PRICES… N … WILL CARRY ON ITS CORRUPTION … WID HIS FAVOURITE CHOR POLITICIANS… DATS IT.
Is Mian Nawaz Sharif giving hidden instructions to SC or is he being pressed by Externals to support Zardari or is he trying to normalize the tension or is he trying to play any other trick?
Why is President free? Higher the post of person more he/she should be answerable and transparent! If Caliph Omar and others are answerable in front of ordinary people then why not any other ruler?
president is free coz he represents the state of pak which cant b sued n more importantly coz president isnt suposd to hav any real powers. Even then he’s not totally free, he can be impeached so his fate lieswit the parliament.
As far as NS is concerned, for once hes acting in a democratic manner, if he starts fighting we’l be taken bak to 90s n then ‘mere azeez humwatno plz ppl give democracy a chance. Zardari was constitutionally elected ket im be removed in a constitutional manner. Democracy isnt perfected in a day, it must be alowed to work for it to be mature enuf to throw out ppl like zardari n elect ppl like imran khan.
I recommend all of you to watch News Programs between 1990 and 1998. You will hate both of them.
Pak Rupee was kept under strict control during Zia’s time. Everything was cheap and in abundant supply. We went back 200 hundred years between 1990 and 1998. Poor Aawan.
These idiots got filthy rich sucking people blood.
“president is free coz he represents the state of pak which cant b sued n more importantly coz president isnt suposd to hav any real powers.”
Strange logic! If he represents the state then he need to be an ideal personality, free of corruption, free of allegations and open to nation. He is answerable in front of nation because he claims that he was elected by the people.
“Even then he’s not totally free, he can be impeached so his fate lieswit the parliament.”
What if parliament is hijacked by the president as in this case! How many issues have been discussed and approved in parliament? If President is not supposed to have real powers then why is he moving all around the world and making contracts and obligations? Why is he still holding as head of PPP although he needs to be fully neutral!
“As far as NS is concerned, for once hes acting in a democratic manner, if he starts fighting we’l be taken bak to 90s n then ‘mere azeez humwatno plz ppl give democracy a chance.”
So Nawaz Sharif is supposed to act democratically and it means that he has to behave like a coward, he is supposed not to talk and act against non-democratic acts of the president, he is supposed not to talk about corruption, he is supposed not to talk about rubber stamped parliament, he is supposed not to talk about incompetency of the president and his people and so on! Everybody is giving chance to so called democracy but it does not mean that country be left to be ruined, parliament to be made non-functional, allowing external forces to act inside Pakistan, corruption should be given a blind eye!
“Zardari was constitutionally elected ket im be removed in a constitutional manner.”
He got the votes because of Benezir and PPP and not because of his personality! How many votes does he have personally? Where is the real Will of Benezir? Why has he not filed even FIR for her murder even though he claims to know her murderers? UN has been brought to white wash the crime! If parliament is like a slave and personal property of Zardari then SC has to act! A Parliament which can elect Zardari as president is really a precious parliament!
“Democracy isnt perfected in a day, it must be alowed to work for it to be mature enuf to throw out ppl like zardari n elect ppl like imran khan.”
What to do in mean time? how to stop corruption, how to save destruction of country, how to help poor Pakistanis, how to give them protection from corrupts and cruels? Should Zardari and Co. be given free hand to loot and plunder country?
Pakistan is more corrupt now than the past and will be the most corrupt country in future. That is because we reconcile and compromise with big looters. We protected big looters of the past, like Zardari, Rehman Malik and Salman Farooqi and chosen them again to become our leaders and loot us again. We are very strange people- as we want Justice system but immune murderers and corrupts criminals.
Could someone please tell me in what kind of corruption Salman Farooqi and Jehangir Badr are involved because these two are also classified as NRO beneficiaries.
The media should act responsibly and realize how they evaluate a story. It has been found out by a survey research by the Gilani Foundation that 57 percent of the Pakistani population blames the media for the political instability in the country. It can be further noted on the following link:- http://www.gallup.com.pk/pollsshow.php?id=2009-11-13
I think this is our misery that still we are digging through our past and been involved in infra dig activities. Aim to issue NRO was to enhance mutual trust between all publis office holders and eradicate political victimizations and politcal harmony for once and all. At that time our country was in war and still facing war waged by terrorists. after promulgation of NRO there was no reason to terminate it because of our country’s grave condition. as beneficiaries are from all politcal parties and beaurocrats and top military officials headind the civilian institutions. You know transparency international releases its report about corruption yesterday about pakistan. aadil shah gilani confesses that mititary cofficials corruption incidents are very low but figures are very high, in ther words quantum is reduced but kickbacks amount is very very high as compared to politicians and politcal parties.
PML-N leader got presidential pardon and acquital under covert deal with dictator, and that deal was only for sharif brothers and sharif family’s luxurious life in Jeddah palace. but astonishingly no one criticised but NRO under which Free and fair elections of february 18, 2008 became possible and fostered potical harmony among all stakeholders and once there was a hope emerged that our economy would be on the move, but then lawyers momovent resulted chaos in the country and more terrorist attacks in the country toppled our economy. today we are facing inflation price hikes of our daily commodities like sugar and flour.
dont be too sentimental, think for a while. If NRO becomes null and void then more and more tensions would be increased much more uncertainity and anarchy and cofusions. PPP leader president asif ali zardari already EXTRAJUDICIAL prisoned in jail for 12 years and this the WORLD RECORD…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..! Yes, no political leader in the world put behid the bars without any courts rule. he sacrificed for democracy and today we have democratic pakistan. yet again unseen powerful players are working on sinister plot to destablize democracy of pakistan(which is due to uphill journey of PPP).
Day after another new brand new formula are introduced to take over incumbent president of pakistan, sometimes minus-1, minus-5, minus-12 etc. what is this nonsense……………………………………………………………..? and sometimes NRO null and void and KLB. This ridiculous, bull and crap and very shamefull act. president of pakistan has got mandate for five-year terms and it must be respected. he is first democratically elected president of pakistan after great sruggle for democracy. our nation cannot tolerate torments of dictatorship or anarchy any further in our beloved homeland. PLEASE STOP DIRTY POLITICS……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..!
President Asif Ali Zardari seems to be a “hot” topic in the media now days when there are nonstop bombs going off in Peshawar. Why can the media not prioritise their stories and act more responsibly?
crazy how you this blog gets so many comments?? This is a perfect example of the media irresponsibility. The media keeps talking abt NRO and thus that affects you people and all you can comment is on NRO. Now go see the blog that EIDHI ABDUL SATTAR receive an award and a huge amount of prize money from the UN!. And that blog hardly has 1 comment and here on the NRO 50 comments.. We start acting what we see in the media. Shame on Pakistan media the way it is manipulationg the minds of the people and making us use to all this stuff that is not even useful in the near future!!! For once responsible reporting is DUE on Pakistan media!

Zardari’s lawyer withdraws appeal in assets reference

I think a lot depends on the role of media along with political figures. The way they react to the NRO in the next few months will be important to see as a good article I read this morning in the FRONTIER POST is that the NRO is not dead yet as it a live wire. If the media plays a positive role and not give NRO this much publicity and handle the situation wisely maybe we can come to a conclusion that will be helpful to Pakistan as a whole.
@bilal:
So this article 6 is very funny…………………….
SC winds up two cases against Zardari in one day.
Now this is the ’swift’ justice
Soon SC/Govt will wind up all references or they will be burried in the court proceedings.
Essentially no change…NRO or NO NRO. SC is not interested in ‘destablising the system’.
@ runaway
SC is only interested in impartial and swift justice .. what if he declare AAZ guilty in any case … then PPP supporters will do what?
@mujtaba
you have very high expectations…just be careful..higher the expectation bigger the disappointment
@ runaway
ok … please tell me to which point i should adjust my expectations or hopes?
come on guys why bother concentrating on these useless debates…..What will happen to NRO cases this is purely the problem of zaradri and co at the moment….the media has played its part and given the message so loud and clear to saain zardaro that it just isnt possible to avoid it anymore……
jo hoga sab kuch din main dekh lain ge….we have already got enough in our plate to content with…..so just relax and enjoy the show…..finally we go back to the SC with some exciting possible outcomes…..fingers crossed!

If Caliph Omar and others are answerable in front of ordinary people then why not any other ruler?
http://www.jang.com.pk/jang/nov2009-daily/16-11-2009/u11563.htm
There should be fair, true and fearless trial in courts of everyone starting from the higher to the lower!
president is free coz he represents the state of pak which cant b sued n more importantly coz president isnt suposd to hav any real powers.
@Bilal
Confusion galore over post-November 28 developments
http://www.aaj.tv/news/National/152557_detail.html
I request electronic and print media, not to be kind to Zardari……..my God, we have not idea, what this can do to Pakistan.
It can be further noted on the following link:-
