Dear All,
Peace be on all of you! As most of you are by now aware that on Nov. 06, 2009, Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Kakakhel, the Vice Chancellor of Kohat University of Science & Technology, was abducted under gunpoint from Darra Adam Khel Area (F.R. Kohat), in the line of duty by a known Taliban Commander so as to pressurize the Government to get some of his men released in exchange from various jails of NWFP.
In academic circles of this country Dr. Lutfullah has legitimately earned a wider national acclaim as a highly qualified, experienced and respected Professor of Physical Chemistry with scores of publications and M.Phils/Ph.Ds produced to his credit but also a top notch IT expert in terms of hard/soft-ware, networking and communications, besides being the pioneer of Computer Science education in University of Peshawar. On the administrative side he has served in positions like the Director, National Centre of Physical Chemistry; University of Peshawar, Vice Chancellor of Sarhad University and Kohat University and as Advisor to the Governor, N.W.F.P. on Science & Technology. A person well known as a thorough gentleman, intellectual with progressive worldview, straightforward person yet a humble middle-class professor became another victim of Taliban´s sadistic strategy and inhuman acts. However, it appears rather painful and apathetic that while
Lutfullah is languishing under Taliban´s tyrannical sub-human living conditions, ailing health and complete lack of communication with family and friends, the Government, the media and the civil society has conveniently forgotten him or the plight of his family. Incidentally, his wife also happens to be a Professor of Biochemistry at the Centre of Biotechnology & Microbiology, University of Peshawar- poor middle class couple of professors, after all!
The objectives of this little note “Call for Attention” is to emphasize the fact that though abductions, tortures, ransom demands and beheadings of innocent people at the hands of terrorist `zalimans” have pretty much become “routine happenings” but they still remain deplorable and highly condemnable acts especially when viewed in the face of incoherent and half-hearted security management. If the academia, media persons, civil society, bar associations, health and engineering professionals, businessman and other organs of the state such members of parliament, executive and the armed forces do not act in harmony with absolute determination to wipe out religious and social fascism, every one of us may meet the same or similarly horrid fate. What are we waiting for? Lets wake up please! Lets stand-up and be counted against crimes of humanity… no matter who may be the perpetrators.
Let us employ every possible means to secure the safe reunion of Prof. Litfullah with his family and let us ensure that in future every effort will be made to protect the sanctity of our sacred educational institutions, fraternity of academia, free expression of opinion and belief, speedy justice and transparent governance. ………. Stay Well!

I know this guy – in 2000 i attended some meetings with him in Ministry of IT under Dr. Atta – we were formulating policy groups for IT industry. He’s an old folk and presented a very unique idea of thin client computing for schools which is what has been implemented in Punjab schools as discussed on PKPolitics the other day.
He’s a very nice person as far as i know and has nothing to do with politics or anything …. My strongest protest on this coward act of who ever it is ! our Govt. should take it seriously … today its him, tomorrow me, day after you and who not ?
Although, I have not heard or met Prof. Kakakhel before but I am sad to see a Pakistani “asset” being ransomed for couple of mental pieces.
I hope to see a safe and sound return of the professor. May Allah’s protection be with him.
A very strong protest from me. Generals be asked to clear the mess they created.
It takes a second to become a Taliban and takes years of hardwork and dedication to become what Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Kakakhel is. May Allah protect Dr. Sahib. and kill these animals for good.
