Iftikhar Sb, you need to better research before inviting individuals – what was the moot point of this discussion – I remained cluless…
- PEPCO was created to help power sector reform within 2 years
- Purpose of PEPCO was not to assume control from WAPDA, if this be the case then what reform we are taking?
- The basic purpose was to restructure the whole secotr, with corporate autonomy to the companies, making them responsible for performance through the regulator NEPRA
- Unfortunately the tug of war between PEPCO and WAPDA started, instead of helping reform, PEPCO started looking for power, making WAPDA and successor companies Boards and Managements clueless…it resulted into anarchy…NTDC remained under multiple influences…managements of these companies were made to follow multiple directions form PEPCO, WAPDA and Ministry. Their boards were and are still rubber stamps
- Result is that Munawar kept on harping his own philosophy, he came back to PEPCO in 2007, assumed bigger control from WAPDA (indirectly handed it back to Ministry) thus putting power sector back to prior 1958 period.
- No effort was ever done to help the secotr-
- It was always tug of war for power
- Power hungry politicians remain incharge of affairs (even today)
- Munawar says that financial authonomy was given only in 2007 (since then around 500 Billion Rupees have been lost in power sector)
-I am not against financial autonomy, but blaming to X-Chairmen and financil authonomy for all the crises not correct (actually these people have hidden agedan, the agenda to grab power whcih Munawar has been harping all throguh this interview)
- Brother Iftikhar, issues are much simpler, than what are being portraied here by the so-called experts.
- As a matter of fact, basic purpsoe of restructuring should be to bring more effeciency to the secotr; today nothign is runnign effeciently, all the companies are under performing, ineffeciency is rampant, and investor confidence is down to zer)
- Even IPPs have gound good excuses to delay maintenance, they put everythign under the garb of outstandings from PEPCO and enjoying nice times, due to this they are not even maintaining mandatory fuel reserves and making penal insterst from WAPDA
- Brother, unfortunately its all power game, in the process people are left to being ‘powerless’ – the biggest conspiracy against Pakistan (even bigger than terrorist threats)
- I am not agaisnt poor Munawar, but I wish you call him sometime to explain why after his appointment as SSGC MD, the earnings have fallen up to 75%, compared to SNGPL, what was the level of losses when he joined and what was the level when he left.
- Let me say that the entire power sector is being currently run by selfish groups, who don’t know their jobs and are not serious with WAPDA – including this gentleman…but I don’t balme, he always was appointed through political connections (I hope he was not in your program last night through some connections!)
