@Mango _ Abid Sher Ali is close to Sharif’s of PMLN…but I don’t think he is their nephew in strict sense of the word…but yes he is related in some capacity…I think the famous Faislabad Handcuff Incident of 1997, which lead to Supreme Court of Sajjad Ali Shah pitched against Nawaz Sharif was inspired partly by his late father, Ch Sher Ali..who settled his own scores through Nawaz Sharif’s idiocity…all that if true can help understand that Abid Sher Ali is very close and dear to the Mian’s of Punjab… but this program was serious and thought provoking…whereas Abid unnecessarrily kept attacking Fauzia…the point is: all is not well on the judiciary front….there should now be some checks on Judiciary too….

  • bionicwoman said:

Let me also add that whereas PMLN has to welcome the reversals of PPP govt with judiciary…deep inside they must be thinking: how to deal with this assertive and emboldened judiciary…and if no one can ask judges what are they doing then the lives and businesses of common people will instead of becoming safe will become threatened..by the hands of the Judiciary…
so yes we are for freedom of the Judiciary but soon we might need to think how to restrain these judges… from becoming Gods… we need balance of power between various institutions… not the domination of any one person or institution……it was a good program… though no table breaking, no table tabla..that too is important….bring back Haroon Rashid…

Some of the points made by Ali Ahmed Kurd, Asma Jahangir and Zahid Hussain are very much valid.

The SC CJ has certainly shown great professionalism but the HC CJs haven’t entirely lived up to the billing. The choices in Punjab and Sindh were biased and that much is a fact. We used to deride Mush’s advisers for sending incomplete and error-ridden dossiers; now the same is being done by the judges.

These judges are human and have their faults. Sharif has very close ties to PML-N. Not that there aren’t judges with close ties to PPP. If these new judges are bad, then we’ll be feeling the pain the pain in 10 and 15 years time when they have more power as chief justices.

It’s very disappointing. We’re squandering a big chance. I am sure many pro-judiciary people will disagree with many choices of the judges but I would guess many are afraid to criticise because the government will try and push for its own disgusting agenda.

Sad to see comments that Kurd sahib is considered honest when he is with judiciary and a dishonest person when he has difference of opinion.

It takes courage to differ and not necessarily having a different opinion means a person is dishonest or corrupt.

    @hypocrite,

I would agree with your comments to some extent. Kurd wasn’t an angel in 2007 nor is he one now. He very obviously has political leanings; he has publicly admitted to that much. So completely ruling out that he is totally unbiased would be wrong.

Many leading lawyers from Aitzaz to Kurd and Hamid Khan has strong connections with political parties. These interests coincided in the campaign against Mush but don’t meet now and hence the leanings of many lawyers towards the government.

Nevertheless, let’s be open and critical of the judiciary to help it make stronger. I don’t like the attitude of being too afraid to upset the fragile power the judges have accumulated; constructive criticism should be welcomed.

Let me make a request to ADMIN: Could it be possible to work a bit on the search function for the site? The current one doesn’t search the comments or posts from particular users.

Would be very handy to have that.

This is a very serious matter, Asma Jhangir brought a very crucial point that no matter what changes are brought to the constitution you still need the approval from Iftikhar Choudhry and his desire will be a word of God.
C/J Iftikhar Choudhry will reject everything that is not according to his wishes and to his friends needs otherwise certain political parties and army of lawyers will be out to bring the Government down.
It is a disarray and a chaos, Mr. Gillani and Mr. Zardari never expected in their wild dreams to hold the positions of P.M and President, they will bow to any disgrace and humiliation to stay in power.
I am afraid this will go on for next three years.

@Paki.revolution & NorozKhan_ Amazing comments! you are right with some of the recent actions of judiciary the balance is being disturbed…we need to keep them on track by constructive criticism, they should not think they are Gods..however we also have to be careful not to criticize in fashion or way that helps Zardari and his cohorts because they are outright criminals and Judges excesses however bad they may be fall in a different category..

I think PM of Pakistan is trying his best to follow the rule laid down by President Zardari and that is politics of moderation . Whereas Zardari himself says something else and acts completely different. So he follow in fact politics of confrontation.

Fozia Sahiba can not make the whole nation like a flocks of fools. They can understand what is going on.
