“But this question assumes we have an opposition. We simply don’t. ”

Said it all in a few words, you have hit the nail on the head. None of the above childish solutions are acceptable to Pakistani civil society which has a tremendous amount of educated and brilliant people who can see the big picture.

The constitutional solution is, that it should be done by the parliament as an impeachment process , due to negation of the NRO and reversal of NRO, there are more than sufficient reasons that the parliament can ask for Impeachment proceedings against the sitting criminally and meanly insane, president of Pakistan. We can weedout the rest of the criminal cabal in the parliament regardless of political affiliations by the justice system or by the pressure by the general public and the Pakistani peoples power.

Or else a reelection Imposed by the supreme court with the backing of all Pakistani agencies, including the Pakistan army, and the opposition political parties.

@nota, Now If you ask me that if I had the power, what would I do right now; the way Pakistan is been abused and Pakistani people are loosing hope and dying in dozens evry day and the “Nero” is playing his flute, I will declare a judicially approved Martial Law and make Imran Khan the President and “Martial Law administrator”, like the holly leader ever to live and still cosiderd alive by the majority grave worshipers of the PPPP a living dead, Zalifqar Ali Bhutto the grand father of democracy did.

Give Imran Khan a chance to put all the political thief’s behind the bars and get the current horrible foreign police changed and make all the leaders to declare that their financial interest, their children and their hospital needs are met in Pakistan. Have party election on secret ballet basses, and condut free elections, should take him three years.

    President of Pakistan (1971 – 1973)
When India intervened in December, the Pakistani Army was swiftly defeated, and East Pakistan emerged as the state of Bangladesh (Bangladesh Liberation War and Indo-Pakistani War of 1971). Yahya Khan resigned, and Bhutto was inaugurated as President and Chief Martial Law Administrator on December 20, 1971. For a brief period, Bhutto appointed General Gul Hassan as the Commander-in-chief of the then demoralized Pakistani Army.

However, Bhutto dismissed Gul Hassan in March 1972 and appointed General Tikka Khan as Chief of the Army Staff, who proved to be extremely loyal to Bhutto since he genuinely believed that the army should only perform its professional duties and not interfere in politics. Tikka Khan ensured that the army did not intrude in politics, which was greatly advantageous to Bhutto as it allowed him to enact his policies with the knowledge that the chances of a military coup had been eliminated.

You are living in US you must know the history of US. Can you cite any such example that is being suggested by you for Pakistan. Things were not so good in US in past. There were lots of ups and downs but they never intervened in democratic process and with passage of time everything was streamlined. Corrupt and incompetent people were sidelined gradually and excellent procedures of Governance evolved.

This can happen in Pakistan as well but with patience and real loyalty with the soil. Unfortunately people here pretend to be loyal to soil where as they are not. They have their own interests with certain bias and prejudice.

“Based on the current situation in Pakistan, what should the opposition do?”

They should do what is good for the people and country and not what is good for their party or personalities.

“- Opposition parties should start protesting, to pressurize the resignation of the present Federal Government”

I don’t think it is going to solve problems much! Let us suppose that federal govt. resigns then who will replace them and what benefits will it bring? Problem would remain there only faces would change and that has been happening since a long time. I would again suggest that make a group of best people and let them work for the country and nation! Their job should be to find what is most important and then try to do that with support of others.

“- PML-N should join hands and with MQM and PMLQ (Pro-Musharraf parties) to form a new Federal Government”

Just look at these parties and think about them one more and one will conclude it would not bring any positive change. These parties are in general addicted to power, corruption and don’t have capabilities to meet the huge challenges which country is facing.

“- I want the current tenure to be completed, so the bad elements get wiped out through the democratic process”

I don’t have any problem if they complete tenure but who will wipe bad elements and when? Where is the democratic process by the way? These people don’t have capabilities to run country and even worst they are involved in corruption! One possibility is that make a new party with best people which supports, purifies and guides the government otherwise forget any positive outcome from current government!

“- Enough is Enough! I want Gen. Kiyani to take over and put every one in jail”

Sometimes one feels so :) but i think it is just an emotional state! Don’t put them in jail rather select capable among them, if there are any, and make a new group along with people from other walks of life.

Pakistan is being paralyzed and weakened in a very unnoticed and silent way! Actually we are not able to fully analyze how we are being destroyed but it is being done very rapidly! We really need to act at this point of time but in realistic/wise way and not purely emotionally.

Else…India is on our head to bang us….both strategically and financially.

Although Military rule is not the solution but the things are are really getting out of hand, Zardari can be given safe passage so long as he is prepared to hand over all the looted money, once the cleared funds are received in State Bank of Pakistan then Gen Kiyani is acceptable for the next three years until next general elections. (Hopefully Gen Kiyani will not behave like Gen Musharraf). Zardari should not be given guard of honour but a really hard kick in his arse.
That khusra Nawaz Sharif have already been tried twice, and does not deserve any other chance because he can not handle the complex situation which we are facing now.
When we are surrounded by fools like Salman Taseer, Rehman Malik, Yusuf Raza Gilani and If Imran Khan is not acceptable to our stupid people then Gen Kiyani is the only solution.

My dear, we do not have to agree with each others point of view, but I will request, not to call Pakistani people stupid. The people of Pakistan are smart enough to bring the CJ back, they have given their lives to fight against the dictators and got caught in the voting against a fake opposition to Mush the dictator. The PPPP and PMLN got the vote of majority who resented the dictator. The stupid people are the ruling elite who think that they can fool the people and make them stupid, with their propaganda and illusion of some holly ghosts and so called Saheed’s. It is getting old and reddened.

By using this you will start another war of words with a particular Mafia like group on the basses of their “Patriotism” and in the love and defense of Pakistani people and we will loose focus on the issue on hand, the worse and most corrupt gang of criminals ruling the country.

You have been verbally abused by Ali Ch, in the worse way in the defense of the “people” of Pakistan. We do not want that starting again. You should use the proper words about the people of Pakistan, misguided and mislead people who have been trusting the same leaders over and over and now are where they are. Pakistani people need our encouragement, guidance, hope and new leadership, not our ridicule.

No one in their right mind wants Martial Law, The Martial Law means, No Law, only law of the gun.

The reason some people may want a Bangladesh style quick fix is due to their frustration and fear of the gullible Pakistani’s choosing and believing the same criminals again.

My dear I gave you the networth of the current living presidents of the richest and most powerful nation “ever” the USA,Barack Obama (current president)* George W. Bush
William Jefferson Clinton George H. W. Bush Jimmy Carter, compare that with our living leading leaders net worth and you will be shocked…..Bush Family has old money and oil interests, still they do not even come close to NS and AAZ. What is wrong in this picture?

    Obama’s money
    Net Worth: $1.3 million
    Where he got it

After Harvard Law, Obama didn’t exactly rake in the big bucks. He led a voter-registration drive and then worked for a Chicago law firm that specializes in civil rights and employment discrimination.

He earned $60,000 as an Illinois state senator, plus another $32,000 as a lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago.

Michelle Obama, however, worked for a while as a big-firm lawyer, leaving to take jobs in the nonprofit sector. She wound up as vice president for community affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals, a position that paid nearly $317,000 a year.

She resigned in May and also left her post as lead independent director of Tree House Foods, a private-label food business.

According to the Obamas’ tax return (Obama and Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut are the only candidates to release one), their income hit $1.7 million in 2005 and $991,000 in 2006.

The big boost came from his writing, following the stirring speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention that made him famous.

First came a memoir, “Dreams of My Father,” and later “The Audacity of Hope,” which was on the New York Times bestseller list for 30 weeks.

    Where it goes

Excluding Michelle Obama’s retirement plan, whose value needn’t be reported, the couple has about $715,000 in investments. All the money except for two very large checking accounts is in mutual funds.

About $350,000 is divided between Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund, a socially responsible fund, and Vanguard Wellesley Income, which has a mix of 60 percent bonds and 40 percent stocks.

    How he could do better

The Obamas have about 40 percent of their money in cash – about right for now, says Jason Mirsky of RiskMetrics: “They may need that much cash to tide the family over without Michelle’s income.”

Later, however, the Obamas should ramp up their stock allocation to about 70 percent. With their earning power, they can take more risk, adding small-cap and international funds.

They could also venture into real estate investment trusts or commodities. They should start 529 college savings plans for their two girls.

President George H. W. Bush nominated Cheney for the office of Secretary of …. Cheney’s net worth, estimated to be between $30 million and $100 million,

Bill Clinton question: What is the net worth of Bill Clinton? about $30 million….

Mar 18, 2009 … Although there is no concrete evidence as to the exact net worth of George W. Bush, it is estimated at $9634088-$26593000…….

Jimmy Carter, whose net worth last year was more than a million bucks, has now slipped down to about 890.000 according to newly-published reports. …

To keep the Pak Army General in the loop of the net worth…..

A Pakistani General is worth Rs 500 million!
    2007 June 8
    by Nita
.An online interview with Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha has revealed that Pakistani Generals are worth Rs 500 million each. In this interview, conducted by despardes.com’s Editor-in-Chief Irshad Salim, Dr. Siddiqa tells us how the Pakistani military establishment has systematically looted the country. That they are no more than thieves. No wonder Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha’s book Military Inc.: Inside Pakistan’s Military Economy has been banned in Pakistan.

Its not just the book, Musharaff has come down on the media with a heavy hand, which makes one suspect that the media was never really free in the first place. People protested and now Musharaff has decided not to go ahead with the ordinance that would have muzzled the freedom of the electronic media. But I can’t help feeling that this climbdown is an eyewash and that he has come to some sort of agreement with the media…he will give some concessions in return for some sort of self censorship.

After reading Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha’s interview one realises how much the General has to hide. And I must thank one of my readers for directing me to this interview. He lives in the US.

In her book Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha has written about Pakistani military business operations. From her experience in working as a civil servant in Pakistan she found out that the Pakistani army has amassed great wealth and that the military has become “predatory engaging in political and economic predation.”

One way its been done is by amassing land. 10 percent of all land, according to the 1912 Colonization of Land Act, is allotted to the military. On paper this land is meant for operational purposes only, but apparently the land has been misappropriated and used as personal land.

Dr. Siddiqa has accused the Pakistan army of running a complete ’side economy’ which includes not just real estate, but also ‘ businesses done by subsidiaries, organizations and individuals.” According to her, this economy could be around 4% of GDP and their share in private sector assets is about 7-10 percent. In crores this is worth about Rs 200 billion and this is not counting the real estate. This is the largest ownership by any single group.

But why should the Army do this? To keep it financially independent! Being dependent on civilian sources for finances is risky if the Army wants to remain in power. Its a vicious circle. They needed the financial autonomy to stick to power and then the financial motive became a strong reason to stay in power. Dr. Siddiqa says that a full general is worth Rs 500 million (Rs. 50 crore) plus (say £5 million or US$9.8 million).

That was just the gist of her interview. For more details you can read here.

    The lady’s background:

    Her Brief Bio:
She did her doctorate from King’s College, London in 1996 and has worked on issues varying from military expenditure, defence decision-making, nuclear deterrence, arms procurement, arms production to civil-military relations in South Asia. She is also a Ford Fellow and more recently Pakistan Scholar at t he Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars.

She began her professional career with the Pakistan navy as the Director of Naval Research, making her the first civilian and woman to work at that position in Pakistan’s defence establishment. She writes for various international journals such as: Journal of Asian Affairs, Journal of the European Institute of Asian Studies, Jane’s Defence Weekly and the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Her major publication to date is the book Pakistan’s Arms Procurement and Military Buildup, 1979-99: In Search of a Policy (Palgrave Press, 2001).

To be fair and balanced, Imran Khan and his ex wife’s networth, I could not find the info on Imran Khan..

Interesting facts about Imran Khan’s wife and her father., also Sita White. I could not find Imran’s net worth to be fair and balanced, but his ex, inherited, She was brought up by Goldsmith’s family, and on his death,Jemima inherited £1.6 million pounds….

Sir James Michael “Jimmy” Goldsmith (26 February 1933 – 18 July 1997) was an Anglo-French financier.[1] Towards the end of his life, he became a magazine publisher and a politician. In 1994, he was elected to represent France as a Member of the European Parliament and he subsequently founded the short-lived eurosceptic Referendum Party in Britain. He was known for his polyamorous romantic relationships and for the various children he fathered with his wives and girlfriends.

    Life
Born into a Jewish family in Paris, Goldsmith was the son of luxury hotel owner and former Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Major Frank Goldsmith and his French wife Marcelle Moullier, and younger brother of environmental campaigner Edward Goldsmith. Goldsmith attended Eton, but dropped out in 1949. Two years later, having attended Millfield as one of its earliest pupils, Goldsmith joined the army after his father had paid off gambling debts he had incurred[2] Goldsmith was married three times, and was claimed to have coined the phrase: “When you marry your mistress, you create a job vacancy.” However, the phrase was coined by Sacha Guitry.[3]

His first wife, whom he married when 20, was the Bolivian heiress Maria Isabel Patiño, 18-year-old daughter of tin magnate Antenor Patiño and the 3rd Duchess of Dúrcal, of the Spanish royal family. When Goldsmith proposed the marriage to Antenor Patiño, Patiño is alleged to have said, “We are not in the habit of marrying Jews”, to which Goldsmith is reported to have replied, “Well, I am not in the habit of marrying [Red] Indians.”[4] This story, if true, is typical of Goldsmith’s humour. With the heiress pregnant and the Patiños insisting the pair separate, the couple eloped in January 1954. The marriage was brief. Rendered comatose by a cerebral hemorrhage in her seventh month of pregnancy, Maria Isabel Patiño y Goldsmith died in May 1954; her only child, Isabel, survived and was delivered by Caesarian section. She was brought up by Goldsmith’s family, and on his death, inherited £1.6 billion (at 1997 currency rates) from Goldsmith.[5] Isabel has since become a successful art-collector.[6]

Goldsmith’s second wife was Ginette Lery, with whom he had a son, Manes, and daughter, Alix. In 1978, he married for the third time; his new wife was his mistress Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart, daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry; the couple had three children, Jemima (born in 1974), Zacharias (born in 1975) and Benjamin (born in 1980) who in 2003 married heiress Kate Emma Rothschild (b. 1982), daughter of the late Amschel Rothschild and his wife Anita Guinness of the Guinness Brewery family.

After his third marriage, Goldsmith embarked on an affair with an aristocratic Frenchwoman, Laure Boulay de la Meurthe, with whom he had two more children. He treated de la Meurthe as his wife and introduced her as such during the last years of his life. Goldsmith died at 64 of a heart attack brought about by pancreatic cancer.

    White Mischief
By Vicky on Jan 10, 2006 in Published Work, Vanity Fair

When Sita White, 43-year-old daughter of the late British industrialist Lord Gordon White, dropped dead in her Santa Monica yoga class last May, her life was in complete disarray. There were the drugs she used and her questionable “nancial advisers.” There was her child with Pakistani politician Imran Khan (now divorced from heiress Jemima Goldsmith). There was the bitter struggle with her half-brother and stunning young stepmother for a larger share of her father’s fortune. VICKY WARD investigates.

On May 24, a gloriously sunny Monday afternoon in Los Angeles, a funeral service was held at the St. Monica Catholic church for Ana-Luisa (Sita) White, the 43-year-old daughter of the late Lord Gordon White, flamboyant head of the American arm of the giant industrial conglomerate Hanson P.l.c., which he co-founded. On the morning of May 13, Sita had dropped dead right before the start of a 9:15 class at the Yoga Works studio on Main Street in Santa Monica. She had been there with her stepmother, Victoria White O’Gara, a stunning, raven-haired, 41-year-old former model.

Forty or so mourners were at the church service, none of them blood relatives of the deceased; Sita’s mother was not in attendance, nor was her sister, her half-brother, or even her daughter. Nor was her stepmother. The pallbearers were led by one John Ursich, 41, a strikingly handsome Argentinean-born waiter, who had wed Sita in June 2002, but who was divorcing her at the time of her death. She claimed in legal papers that he had been abusive to her. (He denies this.)

Two nights before the service a group of Sita’s friends, including London financier Nicholas Camilleri, former British race-car driver Rupert Keegan, former model Inge Hazebroek, and real-estate investor Ali Winston, had sat sipping champagne at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills. They were confused. “Who sent that e-mail?” asked one of Sita’s friends, referring to a missive outlining the complicated funeral arrangements. “Who’s coming?” No one could give answers.
The eulogy was given by Camilleri, 44, an intense, rosy-cheeked man, who surprisingly, given the occasion, had a bitter tone. Camilleri railed about the fact that Sita’s 48-year-old sister, Carolina, had called friends and family that morning to say she was not going. In fact, she had even gone to court to try to stop the funeral. As an alternative, Carolina was holding her own private vigil at four o’clock at Sita’s pretty $2 million home, on the top of a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac in Beverly Hills……

You have indeed explained your point of view very beautifully and I understand your honest and sincere feelings. But what Ali Ch said was before Pindi bye-election, and after that he has really shut-up. I will repeat that our nation or shall I say that we are 100% chu*** and genuinely stupid nation. Just forget what happened in 2002 elections, or indeed in earlier elections……..but have a closer look at Pindi bye-elections which just took place 10 days ago. Despite the fact that Supreme Court has ordered the Govt to reopen the case in Swiss Courts against Zardari for $60m, and what we saw that only at just one quite signal from Zardari (to support Sheikh Rasheed) and we saw 47000 votes were given by PPP supporters to Sheikh Rasheed. This number of 47000 is quite substantial by any standards. Whereas Imran Khan’s candidate only got 3000 votes. Had Hamid Mir not given that programme about Sheikh Rasheed on the eve of Election, this fellow Sheikh Rasheed could have got 90000 votes eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasily. But again if the vote was not casted in favour of Sheikh Rasheed, it went to another candidate which is another chor party. And since Pindi bye-election God knows where Nawaz Sharif has disappeared. Because he always says ‘Hum tu system ko bachana chahte hein’.

And now just look at the bye-election of Lahore NA-123, where the roads, streets, schools buildings etc are broken in the entire Baghbanpura area. People are chanting at Pervaiz Malik (PML Candidate) as a ‘bigli chor’, but wait until Thursday when the whole Lahore will vote for this bijli chor. My congratulations to Pervaiz Malik in advance. So I am justified in saying that our nation is actually and genuinely stupid, jahil and junglee.

Whatever I wrote was in utter desperation to warn against Army rule. I don’t want or will never want to see Pakistan as Iraq. What I meant was what will maximum happen? Generals use Qaumi Mufaad and scare us that there is danger. If we fear that we may become Iraq and have a dictator, then we will DEFINITELY become Iraq (like dictator ‘brave’ Saddam made Iraq).

From your comments I see hatred for Shias and you have even assumed I am Shia. If I were Shia, I would happily admit because there is nothing wrong in having a belief and following ANY sect. Luckily I belong to majority sect, luckily because in Pakistan only majority can live in peace because they are more in number and it threatens anyone who want to harm them.

In your words Kargil was adventure of one ‘fake Comando’. Was Gen Kiyani making Aloo Ghobi when one fake commando was doing that? You are quick to blame politicians who are a group of (sometimes greedy) individuals. Why not blame a whole organised, well connected, fully resourced group like Army?

Army is our hope if they are on borders. They destroy their own Jawans by involving them in plot distribution. My close association with many institutions in the past proves that Army is not suitable for anything other than fighting with enemies.

Sources of her book include: interviews with army people, Pakistani court cases and decisions, Pakistani laws (which dictate different tax rules for civilians & retired army guys)……

The opposition can play a positive role by urging the state to invest more into social development as in a seminar arranged by Individualland Pakistan it was discussed that Pakistan allocates 2% of its GDP to education and 0.5 % to health. While this gap is filled by foreign assistance the opposition can make an effort to ensure that these funds are utilized in a transparent manner. The opposition leader is public accounts committee chairman so he has the powers to do so.

Army apologists/worshipers would argue that army is as bad as people in other services. The point is while others are accountable (politicians and bureucrats are often sent to jails), the most an armyman gets for wrongdoings is premature retirement or forced resignation (not dismissal)-remember the retard brigdear at the National university of modern languages who assaulted a prof. – not even a case was registered against him -and his mentor another retard brig. who is still serving as the rector/VC of the uni. and what about the lowly army captain who dishonored a lady doctor at PPL in Sui. Ultimately Bugti was killed by the army for demanding a case registered against the captain. Very rightly said in a recent article in a leading newspaper:

“the friends of the establishment come out with facts and figures on the Internet on how much members of the National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan are paid; what their perks are; how many government cars they use; and what their worth is according to themselves in their declarations of wealth and property. More often than not these declarations are made fun of and ridiculed by the media Taliban who ad nauseum ask for the ouster of whichever minister/public representative is the flavour of the week. Not once has the media asked for transparency in what perks senior armed forces officers enjoy; how much they cost the state; which, and how many motor vehicles they are authorised; whether corps commanders drive around in BMWs or not; how many servants wait upon them and the zoos of exotic birds and antelope they maintain (in their official residences), and what they own in terms of movable and immovable property.”

I agree with you on some of your points and will try to tell you that most of the volunteer people who are on this thread because they want to contribute are not pro establishment or pro army, these two institutions should be used are the tools of a strong civil government, and under there control. We want the civil and military establishments answerable to the parliament, not this parliament of Servants, family members, prostitutes and the pimps of the power and wealth, the men and women with no backbone, they are either all are friends in crime or have past criminal histories and can be blackmailed and dealt with. .

Your example of one person’s crime, the Caption, is exaggerated or represent a emotional need to make them look bad, that is 1 divided by 700,000 = 0.00000142857%, I am not condoning the act, it was repulsive and criminal, but no Armey in the world history is made of angles, these are humans and humans make critical, shameful, regrettable, reprehensible mistakes and some times they have simply mental brake downs, that’s why we have a judicial system in civilians and court-martials in the Army.

Regardless of which option the opposition chooses, one thing it must do is to make a shaddow cabinet and forcefully raise real issues in the parliament and present alternative solutions. Talk about the issue of terrorism, the economy, law and order, education, healthcare, foreign policy, and even sports. Analyse these issues and give solutions. That way, people will know if the opposition really has something better to offer than the present govt.

“So I am justified in saying that our nation is actually and genuinely stupid, jahil and junglee.”

My dear I am a registered democrat for past several elections but voted for the Ralph Nader last two times. In American two party system they use a fear mechanism*** that if you vote for Ralph Nader, you will help the other party.I voted on principles, the democrats would have done what they were told by the Bankers, so you must vote your conscience.

In Pakistan so far the religious parties, the PMLN and PPPP has used this psychology with their voters, so they voted for either or, not the TI guy. It is a political death, by , “guilt by association.”

This has paralyzed the American democracy in to a two part dictatorship. Continual rephrases by the commentators about Imran’s ineluctability, websites full of dimming him for losing election, just read this thread, even you are addressing the fact that he got 3,000 votes.

I hope they don’t make him irrelevant like the Americans made Ralph Nader, irrelevant. If I was in a good health, I would have work for Imran Khan and try to help him strategize his political party evolution process, , he still has may, much more intelligent people than me working for him. It will take two elections before people will recognize him or a call from the pentagon, lets hope not for the 2nd one.

***In the 2000 presidential election in Florida, George W. Bush defeated Al Gore by 537 votes. Nader received 97,421 votes, which led to claims that he was responsible for Gore’s defeat. Nader, both in his book Crashing the Party and on his website, states: “In the year 2000, exit polls reported that 25% of my voters would have voted for Bush, 38% would have voted for Gore and the rest would not have voted at all.”[54] When asked about claims of being a spoiler, Nader typically points to the controversial Supreme Court ruling that halted a Florida recount, Gore’s loss in his home state of Tennessee, and the “quarter million Democrats who voted for Bush in Florida.”[55][56] A study in 2002 by the Progressive Review found no correlation between votes for Nader and votes for Gore (i.e., more votes for Nader did not correlate to fewer votes for Gore and vice versa).[57] An analysis conducted by Harvard Professor B.C. Burden in 2005 showed Nader did affect Gore’s chances, but that

“Contrary to Democrats’ complaints, Nader was not intentionally trying to throw the election. A spoiler strategy would have caused him to focus disproportionately on the most competitive states and markets with the hopes of being a key player in the outcome. There is no evidence that his appearances responded to closeness. He did, apparently, pursue voter support, however, in a quest to receive 5% of the popular vote.”[58]

When asked by MSNBC’s Tim Russert about the possibility of preventing a Democratic victory in 2008, Nader responded, “Not a chance. If the Democrats can’t landslide the Republicans this year, they ought to just wrap up, close down, and emerge in a different form.”[59] In an interview on Midweek Politics he stated that while Bush and Gore have very similar positions on a plurality of issues, “no one would have mangled the situation (war) in Iraq the way that George W. Bush did as President”.[60]

You knowledge of history is quite doubtful.

Gandhi had no family link with Nehru family. Indira Gandhi was ‘Gandhi’ because of her marraige with a guy called Feroz Gandhi!!!!!

NEHRU WAS NOT MURDERED. He had nearly 20 years to develop India after independence. Indian science/technology and missile programme was started by him.

Indira Gandhi nearly ruled India for 18 years. She developed Indian SPACE programme.

Rajiv Gandhi ruled India for nearly 7 years.

Sanjay Gandhi was a pilot and DIED IN A CRASH. He went to Germany to learn Car making in the 60s and made a plant for first Indian car Ambassador in 68. HE WAS NOT MURDERED

India owes a lot to Nehru family for development.

With such little knowledge, I wonder how you feel justified in doing analysis of politics etc….. That is unfair to us reading and getting reply from you AND to you (as you should be doing some other work which is suitable at that level! Maybe you are good at engineering??).

I want make it clear that I am in no way supporting any corrupt politicians like AZ or NS. I believe that no politician in Pakistan is worth supporting.

But in support of my earlier point I want you to read this article of Newsweek.

These are just minor cases. People are not completely honest in US but it is the vigilant system that compels them to be honest and law abiding and we have develop such system here. In my humble opinion such system can evolve with the continuation of democratic process and also with educating people.

We, as a nation, have our priorities messed up. Opposition parties shed light on matters only they deem important and conveniently forget about the real issues plaguing our society. They are just playing game of barren words and most negative aspects of this game is that opposition is impeding smooth functioning of the Govt making situation more worse. The recent blast in Lahore is slap on the face of Punjab Govt that is putting its entire weight on issuing derogatory statements against Govt and Zardari.
Pakistan is at war with itself and the Taliban. Every day we hear of some act of violence somewhere or the other in our country. In the history of Pakistan, this is first Govt that was serious enough to unearth Taliban but our politicians concerned with the most nonsensical of things? For example pressurizing Govt for the repealing of 17th amendment is also a non sense approach. These issues could be addressed later, first we move to resolve the greater challenges. Ok, if opposition cannot do this, for God sake stop impeding Govt function.

Nehru family made India stronger. It was democracy that meant they ruled for long time and then others took over. India owes a lot to them. India is clean not because of their murders but because of their contribution. It was real stuff – drama is in your comments. Drama = fiction and unreal stuff.

It is not a book which is standard to decide between right and wrong, it is just one out of millions! It is opinion of one person Ayesha Siddiqa and not anything that is ultimate truth. It is your feeling that it is honest account but may be it is not so! I don’t say that Army did not do any wrong in past, no one is angel. And possibility if this book being a conspiracy is still there!

“Sources of her book include: interviews with army people, Pakistani court cases and decisions, Pakistani laws (which dictate different tax rules for civilians & retired army guys)……”
Again it is one opinion or analysis of a person or more persons but it can’t be said that it is totally true or justified! Probability of false facts, wrong analysis and wrong conclusions is always there.

“What Martial Law of Zia achieved??”
It is difficult to judge exactly because not all facts could be collected and analyzed. By the way same could be asked about other leaders and rules that what was achieved by them? and there was no perfect or appropriate system i suppose.

“Bhutto remained Zinda and his daughter took over.”
What do you mean from Zinda?

“What Martial Law of Musharraf achieved??”
Again it can’t be fully analyzed and decided! I personally think he damaged country more than doing good!

“People who were fed up by 1999, his martial law made these people heroes again. So called corrupt Zardari was made ‘Zero meter’ in ‘corruption free’ dictatorship.”
Actually fake commando at the end was fully trapped and paralyzed and he did many blunders especially in that period. I think had he developed a good team of people/leaders right from the start of period, we could have been in much better situation but he rather went to the old corrupt foxes who fooled and misused him!

“Possible result of another Martial law:
Present politicians will seem angels and they will become ‘zero meter again’. Let democracy weed these people out.”
Yes, i think in case of Martial Law these (in general corrupt, liar and incompetent) politicians will get an excuse to say that look army has taken over yet again and wasted our efforts and it is always fault of army and we are very pure and democratic!
But at the same it is important to save country than anything else if really there comes any such danger! and democracy is not a sacred cow either, if one has to select between democracy and country then this cow(i.e. democracy) must be slaughtered.

    I agree,

My father , per say was a man from a small village, he went to a small school in the village , a self-made person and eventually got a law degree from Lahore and started a successful business and gained a lot of respect in the community.

For once the opposition can be an idol opposition and not really try to topple over the government. At this time of uncertainty we all must be united as we all have a common enemy that is the terrorists. The speedy captures of the Taliban leaders are a good sign. If the Taliban exist than it is a confirm threat to the democracy, government and opposition.

I understand and fully appreciate the concept of discussions and healthy debates. That is how a mature society develops and I guess that is why most of us on this forum devote some of our time on these fora.

Your observation on my example “one person’s crime, the Caption, is exaggerated or represent a emotional need to make them look bad, that is 1 divided by 700,000 = 0.00000142857%,”. First of all, this was not the only crime, rather one that got covered by the media. Secondly, mental breakdowns are no excuse for comitting rape. Finally, I agree they are no angels and are corruptible like all other human beings all over the world. But as far as I know, while others do get punished by the law/courts, why is it that uniformed criminals are protected and can not be proceeded against in the court of law as per the law of the country. The captain was never proceeded against in the court of law or even court martialled as far as I know. If you can update my information, I would be grateful. Likewise, while politicians are proceeded against for their wrong doings and corruption, dictators while are at least as corrupt, if not more are seen off with guards of honor. Recently a ret. Brig. indulged in hooliganism at the National Univ. of Modern Language. He was not procecuted against, not even an FIR registered. Last year soldiers manhandled a school teacher in the NWFP. As far as I know, they were not disiplined, rather got a pat on the back. These are just some of the examples that are reported in the media. Everyday we see men in uniform breaking traffic signals, refusing to pay toll taxes/parking fee. What is all this. Yes they are not angels but they must be subject to the law of the country. Remember, the violence in East Pakistan began with a rape comitted by an army soldier that served as a trigger for the events that led to the seperation of East Pakistan. I am not condoning the seperation of the eastern wing, rather they should have led the movement against army dictatorship, being they largest province and the big brother rather than leaving the smaller provinces to sort out with the army and the mess it created and is still creating.
