Dr.Moeed Pirzada again highlighted serious concerns especially raised by Pakistani genuine students. Its amazing that British High Commissioner was not proverbial of the issues faced by applicants who are at the mercy of her Majesty (British High Commission). Its really sad that students who were appeal allowed back in August 2009 are still waiting to get their passports back with the Vignette on it.Slackening of British High Commission’s internal processing and ill logical delays caused frustration amongst genuine students and also visitors alongwith business community who were refused without proper verification of their genuine documents .Mr.Commissioner has defined shift of visa section to Abu Dhabi with a greater pleasure , calling it a just division of centers one into Abu-Dhabi, then Hong Kong and New York overlooking the fact that Issues with move are for instance Time frames in visa issues increased, Documents being lost, Appeals taking longer to process,AR Reviews not being done on time, Passports lost, Staff at Abu Dhabi not adequately trained as some refusals are diabolical,Sometimes it seems that ECO has not even seen all the documents sent as his refusal is on the grounds of those documents, these issues are far big than the benefits accrued through this system.
Pakistani students and other visa applicants who are victims of unjust procedures of British High Commission should raise their voice at every forum to hope a better treatment otherwise it will continue to grow to a level which will be unacceptable for every Pakistani who has a scintilla of self esteem left with him intact after long discriminatory visa policies where one(USA) is doing full scanning at the airports of Muslims only and other(UK) is doing scanning of TB for all visa applicants from Pakistan except family visitors presumably that TB can happen only to Pakistanis and Indians cannot be touched by the disease as they don’t have to go through TB screening as a part of their visa processing mandatory requirement.
@aylahussain _ Good discussion, but what strikes me is that British High Commissioner, who looks and sounds a very good man, is not even prepared to offer any solutions…there was an interesting point where Moeed Pirzada pointed out to him that the fact that students with admissions in fake colleges managed to get visas whereas students going for bonafide colleges were rejected shows the defect of the visa policy but British High Commissioner either did’nt understand him or decided to twist and went on condemning the fake colleges…which was not the point, but Pirzada did’not follow him up on this…
It makes me sad that all these restrictions from English speaking countries like UK are taking place against Pakistani students at a time when Pakistanis are also being harrassed at the international airports as a result of new American Scanning Policy…the full blast of this policy has yet to come, I am worried and sad that all these changing circumstances will make more and more difficult for young Pakistanis to have a connection with the world outside, Pakistanis will continue to fall inside their own culture and inside their own little world feeling isolated, rejected and reactionary and all this is a huge threat for the stability of Pakistan…yet the governing elite in Pakistan are totally oblivious to all this coming shit…
@ Ayla Hussain……you are extremely right . I applied myself my student visa in start of 2009,despite providing all genuine documents plus my good proof of English Language proficiency in terms of IELTS still i got refused then i used my appeal right ,went through their court procedures and won my appeal though lots of extra cost i had to bear. Story did not finish here i submitted my passport alongwith new TB screening certificate which again took 3000/-Rs to redo it , then i provided new admission letter and lost my 300 Pounds in doing so as fee was paid already and it was not College headache if i did not get my visa.Anyways after suffering and going through all that here in this month was my class start date in the UK and still British High Commission could not bother sending my passport back rather after one year of continous trail they are asking me to provide TB test report for the third time and also renewed admission letter……in the meanwhile all costs ,TB test fees are increased and i find myself like a goof rushing here and there and doing what ever they need.Even my father who is working in Saudi Arabia is tired enough of all this sickness of British High Commission that he has advised me to better help him and join his work in Saudi Arabia rather than dreaming of my studies in London which was my right as all other studnets who go to England for genuine studies but British High Commission and UK deserve better those students who give a damn to their rules and work full time rather than studying and fulfilling responsibilities of genuine students having no rescourse to public funds or having limited right to work apart from 20 hours per week allowed as per UK law.
This is pathetic that British High Commissioner doesnot know what mess is going on at the lower level then why he deserves to take the pride of being THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO PAKISTAN if he doesnot know processes fully.I don’t see any change in their system. No one is there to help students and poor Pakistanis ..i don’t know what they do with other people but what i have experienced is more than enough to underestand their double faced policies and discrimination against every Pakistani. We are being treated like animals because we hold Pakistani nationality and if there single child is missing whole machinery will come into force but if our students are going through mental trauma just because of their negligence …….no one really cares.
@bionicwoman…thanks . It wonders more when you go through their bogus colleges system. Mr. Commissioner pointed out well that it is responsibility of the students to select good institutions in the UK to pursue their studies but i would dare ask ‘His Highness ‘who gives license to bogus colleges and declare them ‘A rated’ to issue admissions to international students-these colleges are on the list of Sponsor Register Tier 4 approved by Home office (UK)-UKBA and available at every where on net – poor students rely on this information and take admission and awful is as soon as they submit documents to BHC -college gets delisted (out of list of sponsor register)and student gets refused for not choosing genuine education provider and some are banned for next 10 years for falsification or misrepresentation of facts by BHC.–All system is a kind of crap-very interesting to go through Tiers of UK visas but tragic to know practical realities opted by BHC and its inefficient untrained staff– Pakistani clerks can judge better documents if they genuine or not if they are given a chance to do so in the ambit of British High Commission and throwing visa officers out of BHC for being poor enough to rely upon speculations on students career.
its really good interview,
normally anchors never ask teasing questions from that kind of personalities, that attitude makes boring and formal impact.
Dr. Moeed grilled him on very important issues, which made that discussion interesting.
and
Bionic lady
you remember me na… ?

@ali000 _ Can I afford to forget you and your romantic fantasies? na na…you are unforgettable…but on this program I disagree..it is true that Moeed Pirzada showed a greater ability and capacity to grill the British High Commissioner which is also due to the fact that he, like my hero Talat Hussain, has greater facility with English as compared to most Anchors…for instance Hamid Mir would have not been able to handle this…however on certain questions when Adam Thomson was dodgy, Moeed Pirzada should have grilled him more..but he let it go..obviously because of respect for personality like that…but overall it was a fast paced running discussion and he did it well…
@Bionic Lady, Ayla Hussain and Faizi………..good discussion and valid points……..
Abu Dhabi visa debacle might have an administrative mismanagement factor..
The increasing difficulties for students coming to the UK may also have a world recession factor behind them..
When the UK economy was growing in 2004 and 05 they needed labour of all sorts and practised a liberal visa policy..The instance recession hit and labour from east europe flooded the UK due to their joing the EU the demand for south asian workers dwindled..
and Pakistani students were on the front line to bear the brunt..
And an uproar against mass immigration in Major British Tabloid newspapers against the “brown skinned” people may also have influenced the Govts Policy.
However Let me add to it that the British Govt has certainly discriminated against the pakistani students by using them as foreign policy tool to pressurise the pakistani govt when the pakistani Govt was not playing ball with them.
I would quote the infamous example of those 12 students case who were caught in some dubious terror plot charges and then were even not charged and deported without any cause.Sky news splashed it all around the world but never told that no one was convicted.
I would say that with a reasonable amount of authority due to the first hand experience which i gained whilst working as a trainee to the lawyer who was working on a few of those cases. The poor chaps were innocent and kicked out of the country as mere scapegoats, a means to deliver a message to the Pakistani establishment which i suppose was differing on some issues with the US and UK.
This cloak and dagger stuff does not help the traditional British value of tolerance and justice.
But Hey ho !!! ” this is an imperfect world we live in” as Quaid Azam once said..
And regarding the bogus college issue my cousin was dragged through the appeal process even she had gained admission in Oxford university..
and his excellency Mr Ambassador failed to clarify that bogus colleges apart why legitimate people going to such prestigious institutions are being given a hard time..
I would present another theory on this that the immigration officers who are deployed in embassies and even in the home office are incompetent and some of them just dont make sense..
The quality and merit of the immigration personnel must also be raised by the British Govt..
