PML-N in very clear vote rigging and they canidate must now be disqualified and the PTI candidate be given this seat, what i don’t understand is why PML-N are scared of a minnow like PTI…. if you really are a sher then why not come in the field and compete fairly and not use these under hand tactics.

Great job by media! It was on cards for PTI that it has to face this all one by one to defeat staus quo. We have independent media, independent judiciary and now we will struggle for independent election commission and defeat this undemocratic mindset of so called democratic leaders of family owned political parties.

The host conducted himself very well in this show and asked a very important question at the end about no suo motu action taken by both SC and LHC taken against this travesty of justice.

I never said that the voice on the tape was that of Hamid Mir, said Aslam. I said the matter was being investigated and it appears that the tape was doctored.
He hoped that the attribution would be retracted by the WSJ. Aslam has written to the reporter TomWright seeking redressal.

    A little reason may help!
In this instance, however, the analysts have to keep in mind two points; one, the shrinking of the once promising PTI from a party calling for national reforms – sometimes revolution – to an outfit that finds it prudent to indulge in conventional constituency politics, and, two, the presence of a strong Biradari factor.
Let’s first discuss point number two. Despite all the party banners and party rallies that had been on display the fight in the PP-160 was also a clash between two groups of the Khokhar clan which wields considerable influence in the area. PTI’s Zaheer Abbas Khokhar represented the political branch of Khokhars which had been defeated by their rival Khokhars in the 2008 polls. Karamat Khokhar, a PPP candidate, had lost the National Assembly seat from the area to a lesser known Afzal Khokhar of the PML-N in 2008. The margin was big – more than 20,000 votes separated the winner from the losing candidate – but still, Karamat managed to poll some 38,000 votes. The same Zaheer Abbas who had a PTI ticket in 2010 was a PPP nominee in the 2002 general election and won the National Assembly seat in a tight contest. He had the support of Karamat Khokhar, his close relative who was barred from standing in the election because back then he didn’t have a BA degree (Karamat got the degree later on and was eligible to contest in 2008.) Now was it a miracle that the same Karamat Khokhar was spotted on Thursday on television accusing the PML-N of rigging the vote against his candidate, Zaheer Abbas? The PTI’s choice of the candidate for PP-160 brings us to discussing point number two in our list. As mentioned earlier, in 2002, Zaheer Abbas Khokhar was an MNA belonging to the PPP. Not too long after that, he joined the ranks of the PPP-Patriots for a place in the team of General Pervez Musharraf. Much as Imran Khan would lambaste the PML-N leaders for their empty cries of revolution and at the same time of rigging the PP-160 election, his own selection has been reminiscent of a leader desperate for small successes built on big compromises.
And this was not the first time Mr Khan was caught attempting a reverse sweep considering his earlier claims that he was different from the lot of politicians we have been blessed with. A few months ago he had chosen a PML-N reject to fight on a PTI ticket from another provincial constituency in Lahore. A while earlier, in a by-election in Rawalpindi, the PTI could do no better than allow an old Jamaat man to fight as its nominee.
Clearly, the PTI’s experiments in constituency politics have been by design. These corroborate the suspicions the party’s leader has generated with his words and lack of action in the political arena right since the launch of his party in the 1990s. The dirty terrain he had to encounter in the PP-160 leaves him with the same old two options. He should return full time to his social work or go the long haul in building a party which is actually different. Cameos don’t work here, skipper.

@aley. thanks for sharing this article again.

I can remember few students chanting slogans for Imran before he was trapped and arrested in Punjab University. He never uttered a single word against the Jamat. Imran appears to have developed friendship with Altaf after failing to do anything that he has been airing on TV shows. His claims to bring Altaf behind bars were no more than rhetoric.

He then started assault on Zardari and after failing to get any thing out of this, he appears to start a confrontation with PMLN. I should politely suggest Imran not to take this route as eventually he will be loser. PMLN is the only party that had some respect for Imran and they openly asked him to come and join hands for a change. Imran will find himself in big trouble if PMLN starts counter verbal attack against him. He has seen this in early nineties and this was the only reason that Imran could not become a force despite his hard work.

I should suggest Imran khan to develop friendship and collaboration with PMLN, JI etc before a solo flight. He will burn out his energies for nothing. If he has to award tickets to rejected cronies from other parties, why not to talk to like minded parties and develop a strong alliance and positively influence on the policies. This blame game and negative politics will make him a real loser in the long run.

  • hairpin said:

I don’t understand this verbal attack against PML-N. Its true that the PML-N is not perfect and Nawaz Sharif is a human being and makes mistakes and I don’t like some of his politics and decision making. But he’s done good things as well and I like them. Imran Khan worked hard for a cancer hospital which is great and built a university in Mianwali which is great. But I don’t like things about him as well as he is human being and makes mistakes as well.

My personal opinion is that this rivalry has actually developed after the restoration of the judiciary and because of their difference towards how they view the judiciary and the 18th amendment became another point of contention. I have something to mention regarding the amendment issue. As far as I know

the Pakistan constitution forbids any constitutional amendment from being challenged in court

the Indian constitution does not have such a provision.

Therefore, the amendments cannot be challenged in court. That is my understanding of this point.
