Punjab Government has launched the Metro Bus System Project today. Other than its rapid commute benefit, the project is expected to bring social awareness with respect to time management, discipline, automated ticketing, and would set a benchmark in domain of public transport, similarly what motorway brought to Pakistan in late 90′s.

The system is based on dedicated tracks for special buses, which will complete 27 kilometers of journey in less than an hour. The system, first of its kind in Pakistan aims to allow common man to travel with comfort and dignity throughout the city.

The project has been built with partnership of Turkey. There are currently 45 buses, each with seating capacity of 150 persons. The buses would run at intervals of 3 minutes during peak hours and 6 minutes during off-peak hours.
