Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
Will it be shown on PTV ? or on any channels that one can watched via a normal TV antenna ?
This is the first time in the entire history of my family, that I may be forced to subscribe to cable for as long as FIFA worldcup is played out.

Back in the days when I used to live in Lahore and ptv did not show all the world cup matches I used to climb the roof of my house every night and move the antenna to doordarshan to watch the world cup matches. Sometimes it would take me 15 minutes to catch a signal but the end result was worth it. Two AM in the morning watching Italy, Argentina or Brazil play on a TV screen is priceless.Posted 1 year ago on 11 Jun 2010 8:29 # -
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
The point in my watching fifa worldcup is to see healthy contest between professionally trained teams.
That's the priceless part. That is what we have lost inside Pakistan over the years. We need to shove all kinds of politics out! of sports.

Soccer: This is a Year of Africa
Posted 1 year ago on 11 Jun 2010 10:58 # -
OK, AK, I'll unbend a little in your favour for above. Definitely the Year of Africa and not the last one either. Expect to see Brazil, Argentine and an African team on the podium this year, and not necessarily in the order I write them.

SA should have won it in the last minute when one of they players hit the post with a weak shot.
Posted 1 year ago on 11 Jun 2010 18:03 # -
I was little disappointed by opener. Mexico should have won, terrible call by refs in closing minutes of first half. Let's see if uragoy can upset France in 2nd game.

Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

It is sad that the ball being used this year "jabulani" is machine stitched from China instead of the hand stitched Pakistani soccer ball.
The new World Cup ball carries the name Jabulani, which is Zulu for "to celebrate."
The soccer players who are using it have another name for it:disaster.

sasherwani sahib, again I beg to disagree. Italia won the last cup through a dirty trick. Surely you remember. Claudio Matarrazi insulted Zidane, we still don^t know what he said, though many different versions have been advanced. Zidane himself has never said. But the proud Berber that he was, he hit back. You call that winning! For me the champions were the superb Blue team of France, even if we saw yesterday that the French are no longer the team they once were.
zia m. Stupid people using the industrial China ball instead of the hand-stitched beauties from Pakistan.

GO BRAZIL!
No Zidane this time, so France stands no chance.
Posted 1 year ago on 12 Jun 2010 16:36 # -
Only good team so far: S. Korea. Probably because they are used to the Chinese ball. We sorely miss Zidane.

Today England should have won...I am disappointed just watch the whole game watching England draw against team like USA...:(
Posted 1 year ago on 12 Jun 2010 22:28 # -
Lucky break for US. I 'd like to see them capitalize on this.
Posted 1 year ago on 12 Jun 2010 22:41 # -
@ Mirza,
You think I give a #$%^#$ how Italy won the world cup? :) They pulled an 'Italian Job' and got the work done. By the way playing 'dirty'? I thought it was Zidane who launched the head-butt ;)
Italy all the way!

@ gazi,
England choked as usual. A country where football is worshipped couldnt beat a country where football isnt followed at all. Hats off to the US!

sasherwani sahib, there are two schools of thought in the world about anything, one that says success above all, the other, honour above all. Me, I belong to the latter. Never mind. Where I do agree with you is US can be forgiven much for having drawn with the Brits in yesterday's match.
Let's see what Algeria manages to do today. I expect great things from them, too. Also, please to eliminate Argentina from among the possible cup contenders I offered above. Having seen them in action, I can't for the life of me believe they'll improve as they go along.
Posted 1 year ago on 13 Jun 2010 9:06 # -
@ Mirza,
Zidane - an excellent player - probably the heart of French team - will always be known for being a true legend of football. Yet I do not encourage being hostile if someone abuses you. That violent reaction to a verbal abuse caused his team to lose the world cup. As for honor, no awards for that and the world cup is all about 'the world cup'.
Anyway I am a die hard Italia supporter for 25 yrs :) I back up Spain this time as the Robbin to my Batman Azzuri.
Posted 1 year ago on 13 Jun 2010 10:21 # -
Good, sasherwani sahib, I'm glad we agree about Zidane the legend. Also, why not, if Spain or Italy win, I'll have no objections. But have you seen the matches so far. Boring stuff. No grandeur. I still think the S. Koreans were the best team so far. Another thing I've noticed and for heaven's sake don't jump on me all and call me names. All the big shot teams have been given weak opponents for the preliminary rounds. For heaven's sake. Spain to play Switzerland of all countries. And the great Brazil gets N, Korea as its first opponent. And on and on and on. This was done on purpose, I believe. That's what comes of having no honour in games, scam.
And please to keep an eye open for the promised disruption of the Cup through a false flag terrorist attack. It has been announced in advance by the powers that be.

Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
I missed the Korean one.

Germany smoked Australia. Here was a match where you saw multiple goals, and Australia couldn't score a single goal against Germany. Although Germany is huge contender for the cup, I am still sticking with Spain taking the world cup.
Posted 1 year ago on 13 Jun 2010 21:45 # -
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
Germany's passing was immaculate. They'v come up with this new strategy to move through an opposition's defense. Its proven successful.
Australia didn't learn from the mistakes they made in first half.
Posted 1 year ago on 13 Jun 2010 21:55 # -
So far Germany looks like the strongest side!
However, Italy hasnt played any matches yet ;) Tonight we will see the Italian mob at work!
Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 6:24 # -
Germany looks like Brazil on steroids. Last world cup they were knocked out by Brazil in overtime. They would be very hard to stop this year.
Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 6:34 # -
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
We haven't seen Brazilians play this year, as yet.
Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 6:35 # -
germany was beaten by talent of brazil last world cup. The passing and marking they showed today was exceptional and it was an improvement from last world cup. I am picking germany to reach the final.

@saherwani
I don’t like to watch the Italian style of ugly defensive soccer. I would be rooting for the forward attacking Portugal side.Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 6:45 # -

I am rooting for Argentina, Brazil and Germany. I am pretty sure that one of them will knockout Italy. You better be prepared:)Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 7:02 # -
@ lota,
Everyone roots for Brazil, whats the big deal.. its like rooting for Australia in cricket.
Italy will win the cup! Ciao Bonjourno!
Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 7:08 # -
I like any team that uses trickery, fast flowing quick passes and attacking style of play. Italian style is a defense minded game with midfield more in control which is not as much fun to play or watch for me. Soccer is more fun when the forwards are in control of the ball and attacking.
PS Glen McGrath was my favorite bowler so lets not go their.Posted 1 year ago on 14 Jun 2010 7:59 # -

No, I doubt it very much, achtung. Neither Germany nor Italy. Very likely Bangladesh will take the Cup this time:)

Brazil gave a disappointing performance! So far Italy, Brazil, Argentina and England all have been somewhat disappointing. Yet its too soon to say anything. Germany looks strong!
Viva La ItaliA!
Posted 1 year ago on 16 Jun 2010 12:19 # -
Do we know something about football or don't we? Germany looking strong against Australia? Was that so difficult to manage. They even scored one of their famous four goals through a goal post devoid of a goalie.
Anyway, the best match I've seen so far was the Portugal-Ivory Coast duel. That, to my mind, was real football all the way. Plus it was an example of great sporting courage on the part of one of today's football greats: Didier Drogba. Whereas the other football great, the world's most expensive player at the moment, Christiano Ronaldo, once a colleague of Drogba's, seemed to be holding himself back because Drogba sat nursing his broken arm on the bench outside. Epic it was, from every point of view.

Best game of the tournament so far and well done to the Swiss. On one side we had an attacking team and the other side we had primarily a defence orientated team and the latter came out on the winning side but never the less it was an intriguing game to watch for the neutral.
Posted 1 year ago on 16 Jun 2010 18:18 # -
I was the one routing for Spain to win the world cup. Very disappointed with Spain. This is the biggest upset so far.
Posted 1 year ago on 16 Jun 2010 18:25 # -
Beautiful match it was, agreed. The Spaniards came onto the field too sure of themselves. That's where they went wrong. Also, of course, luck had deserted them today. Oh, yes, not to forget either: the Swiss goalie was a real genius. He's probably going to be among the great goalkeepers of the new generation.
But I still stick to my Portugal-Ivory Coast battle of giants under a mad referee as the best match so far. Also the terrific performance put up by N Korea against that other (wavering)giant Brazil was hugely impressive.
Never mind Shock. This was an example of Pride comes before a Fall. But don't give up. Spain can still make up for its defeat today.

@ Mirza Ghalib
I can't really comment on the Portugese game against the Ivory Coast as i only watched the first 10 minutes. I agree with your comment that in the first half especially the Spanish were a bit arrogant but i am happy they lost because hopefully in the next 2 games they will turn on the magic and qualify for the last 16.
Posted 1 year ago on 16 Jun 2010 18:54 # -
I think we can take that as a given, aftab, Spain in the next round. It has Honduras to beat next Monday and then Chile. Both can be managed with ease, I imagine. Unless, of course, the Spanish bad luck in international competitions is back again, after it was finally broken when they became European Champions.

Na, na, na, as the Germans say: Serbia have beaten Germany 1-O. So all you Germany fans, what now?
Posted 1 year ago on 18 Jun 2010 14:35 # -
haha!! Germany lost, US drew and England again remained winless.. what a perfect day for football for me :D All the giants are coming down!
