Two more victims of alleged reaction of cardiac medicines died on Sunday, bringing the overall death toll to 28 over the last three days.
The deceased included Muhammad Hussain and Pir Ahmed who were under treatment in Mayo Hospital.
According to details, more than 100 critical patients were being treated at various hospitals of the city as the probe committee fears possibility of adulteration in cardiac medicines.
Sources said the patients died due to low platelet and white blood cell counts after they were given medicines of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
Public as well as private hospitals were receiving patients daily with low platelets, dark complexion, black spots on bodies and bleeding.
The government has formed a committee of doctors to probe the alleged reaction of cardiac medicines and consequent deaths of patients.

Khan Sahib,
Please put some light on this issue, is it due to sub standard medicines or could be doctors negligence.Some of such issues have no direct results of CM, PM's actions so why always blame goverment for this..

Shame on SS and the incompetent Punjab government!
@expakistani,
In a democracy, all the responsibility belongs to the government. It is the government who has to solve all the problems, they have the all the institutions under them.
Please drop this wavering attitude, and know that in democracy government has to be fully responsible for things occurring under their domain of power.
The people must DEMAND from government as they are the ones who claimed to solve their problems when asking of votes.

BhaIIex pakistani.
It all comes down to health minister and the govt in the end. One thing I can't understand that when the first patient died of the drug interaction or suspicion of a fake drug etc than they should have stopped the use of that drug. There should be a clinical governance team in every hospital which should implement policies to prevent any clinical incidents. I personally don't think that its caused by a doctor's negligence per sae but if 2/3 of my patients die of unknown cause than the drug reaction/failure would be my number one suspicion. God knows, how the hospital system works in pakistan. If it was in west, the hospital general Manager/Director would have been suspended and the health minister resigned by now.
