A moulvi from Kohat gave this decree in 1969. Regardless of the amusement in this fatwa and the perceived scarcity of such scholars in Islam, I would like to know how this person came up with such a ruling. I mean what was the process of his jurisprudence that lead him to give such a fatwa. Can anyone help? May be Javed Sheikh can shed some light.

Exactly, that very nonsense I would like to understand. Who knows there might be some wisdom in a nonsense. I did not read the story myself but a very dear loved one who is not among us, used to tell this news. I imagine the story of moon landing had taken 6 column space on the front pages of Pakistani newspapers in July and August of 1969. But this fatwa must have been a single column news on the back page of roznama Mashriq.

I hope some media person is reading who can dig out the archives of newspapers from that era.

You guys dont have anything else to discuss Or you are suffering from simple Islamaphobia...it is necessary to drag in a 1969 controvercial thing here??..yes things like this do happen due to low level of knowledge & ILM by some Mullas but that does not mean that you start critisizing Islam In the guise of Mulla.On the other hand there are so many people in the west also who dont believe that man has reached the moon...this is all due to lack of awareness & Islam or any other religion has nothing to do with this.

I know a Allima who's husband is a teacher in Jamia Ashraful Madaris said to my mother " ham nay ghriyon kay time aagay nahi keyeh kiyon kay yeh Qudrat kay kaam main madakhlat hay "

I person I know does not sit on Sofa because this is not Sunnah .

I personally respect the Fatwas and those people who follow the religion but There are Fatwas which does not have any basis from Quran and Sunnah .

believe me that guy Sits on the floor and if he does not have any choice he sits on the sofa like "alti palti " style .

A Family I know do not visit to their brother house because He is working in a bank and their Mufti issue a Fatwa that they cannot use any thing from him ,So they do not visit him normally ,If they go to his house they sit on the floor ,I agree the interest in Haram but going to that extreme ,I cannot understand .

During my Hajj in 2005 one Aalim for Nadwatul Ulema issue a Fatwa that thous who violated Hajj rules so the "Damm" become wajib on them ,If some one does not give this "damm" (slaughter animal in Haram area ) he would be in Halat-e-Ehram and Sex with the wife is prohibited ,So those who violated Hajj and did not slaughter the animal (damm ) in previous Hajj are still in Halat-e-Ehram and the sex he is been doing with his wife during this time is illegal and Haram .

These are the real examples I have seen my self .

A belief or conviction that divides families instead of bringing them together is something I don’t have much regard or respect for. Why there is so much emphasis on purifying rituals is something that I can’t comprehend. This kind of thinking belongs in the Stone Age. Why do people make these choices?

The last para about dumm is not a fitwa ( as per best of my knowledge) but an actual requirement as been proved by a lot of Islamic books I have read. Kindly research n consult before labelling them as some mulla's fatwa!

yes, it is a process that continues to grow like few centuries ago we had buildings like taj mahal but later evolved into modern architecture such as sears tower or state empire building or burj al-khalifa or you see people still building based on old architecture? ??

but what i read from a 40 year old clipping and compare it with what i read from today's clipping then i see same old level that neither got evolved nor got polished-

This indicates in spite of efforts by Seculars / liberals / atheists or whatever people of Pakistan remain Muslims as a majority. Stupid and outdated science that evolution was has no further charm.
When an unqualified Moulvi from a remote area has said so then its an indicator of his lack of knowledge. Why malign the whole Islamic nation painting in black using a broad brush of generalization.

I disagree with your assessment that the stupidity among so called scholars is spurious. It is more spread than you think. Area of Kohat, where the aforesaid mufti was, is very close to North Waziristan. It does not require rocket science to extrapolate that the same mind set evolved into the suicide mission of killing all those who do not agree with you.

Only molvis from remote areas are under criticism and not the whole Islamic Nation.
It is a complaint against 'molvi's lack of knowledge' and arrogance who always attempt to impose their personal preferences, contrary to the spirit of Holy Quran.

It is intellectual dishonesty to twist a debate towards emotional exploitation.
