Shair-e-Mashriq Allama Iqbal's poem on “Azaadi-e-Afkaar” in Bal-e-Jibril is very relevant for all of us who are chasing after false god of western freedom. I have copied translation from the following site, those who are interested in actual poem in Urdu can check out at the site.
    http://www.allamaiqbal.com/

    FREEDOM OF THOUGHT
Falling down is the destiny of that bird
Whose duality of nature renders him unable to fly.
Not every heart is an abode to the trusty Gabriel,
Nor can every thought ensnare the Paradise like a bird.
The ecstasy of thought is dangerous in a nation
Where the individuals observe no rule.
Though God‐gifted intellect is the lamp of an age,
The freedom of thought is a Satanic concept.

I would like all of us to do taffakur and participate in analyzing the poem and its relevance now.

Well a very dry topic from this blogs perspective but you got me excited when you brought this up in another discussion:

Freadom of Thought (FOT) has many dimensions , let me start with freadom of speech and then we can also look at Ijtehad as well , if you consider that as part of FOT.

As for freadom of speeech, I quote Dr Tariq Ramadan:

There are no legal limits to free speech, but there are civic limits. In any society, there is a civic understanding that free speech should be used wisely so not as to provoke sensitivities, particularly in hybrid, multicultural societies we see in the world today. It is a matter of civic responsibility and wisdom, not a question of legality or rights. In that context, I think it was unwise to publish these cartoons because it is the wrong way to start a debate about integration. Such a move inflames emotions; it does not court reason. It is a useless provocation.
