I go to the Fitness First gym in Dubai Festival City. Last weekend a family friend of ours visited our place just after I came back home from the gym. We had just had a debate a week ago on whether Basant should legal or not in Pakistan. (He is somewhat of a mulla and opposes anything remotely defying his religious scanner). Anyhow, he comments that me going to gym is haraam. I say how is that so? He goes because when you go to the gym you involuteerily or volunteerily end up looking at semi-naked females in "controversial" positions. I, having a less conservative mind, opposed his argument though he did made me think about finding an all-male gym for a second.
Just last night, I went to the Fitness First near DIFC (because the airconditioning at the Festival City branch wasnt working). Guess who I come across at the treadmills? My family friend sweating while gulping down a bottle of Gatorade. I go to him and say "sir? aap? yahaan?". He, without showing any signs of embarrassment, goes.. "Innamal A'mal o Binniyaat" (Amlon ka daromdaar niyyat par hay).
