All countries are unique and comparing two of the world’s most populous Muslim countries, Egypt and Pakistan, is as risky as comparing Britain to France at the time of the French Revolution. But many of the challenges likely to confront Egypt as it emerges from the mass protests against the 30-year-rule of President Hosni Mubarak are similar to those Pakistan has faced in the past, and provide at least a guide on what questions need to be addressed. In Pakistan, they are often summarised as the three A’s — Army, Allah and America.

  2. Yahya Jee,

Did'nt Wikileaks' proof change the order of Pakistani hendiatris to America, Army, and Allah? As a matter of fact, looking more closely at the pertinent leaks of Amreeki chamchageeri by Zardari/ Gilani /Sharif, Kiyani and Moulana Diesel, it is America, America, Hi Meray Allah America.

Past weekend Telegraph newspaper from UK published selected wikileaks suggesting the uprising was planned and finalised in 2008 and US was fully aware of the plans and even worked with a presidential candidate. The candidate's name was not revealed but people speculate it was Baradei. Baradei has a long history of working with western powers.

I do not know if the report was real or it was exaggerated to divide and confuse the protesters. I will be surprised if anyone suggests the uprising was spontaneous and was not pre-planned. I will also be surprised if someone says US did not know about it but I am unsure whether US instigated it or was only aware of it. One thing that everyone knew was Hosni was'nt going to stay in power for too long as he is 82 and sick and there were already talks of his successors.
