  3. Absolute sickeing Behaviour of US authorities. I strobgly believe that the law enforcement personnel in US need a serious psychiatric help and they are turning into sensless animals.

  5. These guys are brutal!!!

US Border Guards don't take sh!t from no one, those Canadians were a bit out of line I think, I don't know if any of you have crossed in to US from Canada but talk to some one who has and you will know this was a cake walk!!

You have to tell them the exact location of where you are going and how long you will stay and when you will get back, it's a normal procedure, this guy thought he was a big shot so he argued with them and got the treatment.

I sort of got into the same kind of "situation" at Heathrow because this British Guard started asking me questions which I didn't like but turns out he was asking the same questions to everyone!!

Pakistanis think they are the only ones getting hassled but US border guards do it to everyone, it was a big reason Chicago wasn't chosen for Olympics.

This is nothing compared to the horror stories I have heard!!!

They once chased a guy inside a Canadian border and it caused a lot of stir.

He got what he deserved guys. You never mess around with Immigration officers. They can be the nastiest persons on earth if you try to get into an argument with them.

    Just comply and move on...

  7. I agree. Our (desi) perception of law enforcement is quite confused. Raising a voice or being rude will definitely get you in hot waters. Did you notice that none of the officers ever raised their voice. They finally tamed the customer with their polite and firm arguments.

One great thing in America and most western countries is that workers anywhere, espectially the law enforcement, are very well trained. They usually have a checklist--they know exactly what to do and what not to do. They make decisions based on procedures and merits of the case, not personal whims. If you falter on some point in a checklist, you will be thrown into the next level that will normally be tougher to get out.

Remember some simple rules-- look good, throw a smile, be polite, give straight answers, and obey the directives, not only at the boarder crossings but everywhere--workplace, traffic stops, shopping malls, you name it. Leave your perceived biases home. Nobody is out to get you. You can be your best friend or a worst nemises.

I have tried these tips in Pakistan too. They work wonders! Respect and be respected.

US immi officers are b@stard. Even if you co-operate with them and be respectful et all they treat you like a potential terrorist and they discrimnate based on country of origin , physical appearance and religion. I find it humiliating the way they treat people at immi and would never like to visit this dreadful country. and they do have an air of superiority complex. they believe they've the birthright to break law and carry guns. sh!tholes.

Racial, ethnic, and religious biases are an unfortunate reality around the world but I would argue that American system actively works to minimize it. We should not start off with worst assumptions. Your everyday life is least affected by such attitudes. Nobody walks to you and say why are you here? In general, if you have a right you will get it.

Discrimination works in subtle ways in things that may be too prized and harder to reach. A common example would be that if there are layoffs in an organization, a colored person is more likely to be sent packing compared to whites.
You can similarly point out hiring discrimination but that is also dependent on economy. In good times, there are no problems.

In this particular incidence, I don't see any bias. It is simply the negative attitude of the person that made the situation unpleasant.

Personally I never had any issue with US immi officers in crossing border from Niagra into America, Each time they ask the same specific questions like Where do u live in Canada, what u do. When last time u visited Pak, Have u ever visited Afghanistan. What is the purpose of visiting US and how long u will be in US. It took me less than 10 min each time to cross boarder after answering these questions.

Okay, the immigration officer asked a silly question that the desi-angreiz was unprepared to answer and laughed at it and called it ridiculous, there situation started to deteriorate-

Then the desi-angraiz thinking of "rights/values" started to argue with the officers, he then received the answers-

Immigration guy can ask for details which can cause uncomfort because one feels his privacy is being violated, but that is a norm now, if one wants faster clearance then he/she has to comply and answer seriously to the satisfaction of the officer or else one would end up wasting a lot of time and with a worst mental trauma-

A wrong presumption. A "desi-angraiz" would NEVER think "rights/values" and enjoy the 'r@pe' as clear from the comments above ;-)

BTW: This one is about an year old...

Yes, I think the couple involved in the incident is desi-angreiz aka CBCD

There are few reasons but I don't want to get in to that argument, yes born & raised desi do take pangaa because they think themselves as equal to local goras unlike FOBs who comply blindly & humbly-
