Bravo Ms. Gohar Ayub, for casting the first stone. I hope others follow ur lead ...

MILITARY COUP CHARGES, ISI CHIEF SHOULD RESIGN, SAYS GOHAR

    http://tribune.com.pk/story/307431/military-coup-charges-isi-chief-should-resign-face-inquiry-says-gohar/

    ISLAMABAD:
Mum’s the word as far as the government and the military’s media wing are concerned regarding Mansoor Ijaz’s latest allegations.

The mood in the National Assembly session on Thursday, however, was anything but when a female parliamentarian demanded that Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt General Ahmed Shuja Pasha should resign and face an inquiry based on the allegations that he had met some Arab leaders early this year to discuss a military coup in Pakistan.

Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz, the whistleblower behind the Memogate affair, claimed that Pasha had visited Arab countries for discussions on a possible coup, according to media reports.

“If Husain Haqqani [Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US] could resign based on mere allegations, why shouldn’t Pasha?” Awami National Party (ANP) MNA Bushra Gohar questioned.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan initially defended Pasha, terming Ijaz’s claims “baseless”. However, when Gohar pointed out that if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was so quick to believe Ijaz when the memo issue was brought to light, how was it that the same man had suddenly become “unreliable” when it came to the ISI chief, Chaudhry Nisar ‘unwillingly’ agreed. “Isn’t that a double standards. Isn’t it a contradiction within?” she questioned.

A blog posting on The Independent’s website quoted Ijaz as having said, “Their [US intelligence] information was that Pasha had travelled to a few Arab countries to talk about what the necessary line of action would be in the event that they had to remove Zardari from power, and so forth.”

The government should authenticate the allegations and take “necessary steps”, Chaudhry Nisar said, changing his stance.

After the Abbottabad raid unfolded, Chaudhry Nisar said it was he who “dared” Pasha to resign but nobody supported him back then. “Principally, I agree with her [Bushra’s] stance … but it is up to the government to seek a resignation from anyone,” he added.

It was the first time that a parliamentarian representing a major political party called for the ISI chief to resign in order to prove that the allegations against him were untrue

To save Pakistan, Army's involvement in all sort of civilian affairs must end with immediate effect.

^^^ Bro, Army's involvement should not only be nullified in civilian affairs but serious steps should be taken to drastically cut the defence expenditure, army should not be allowed to churn out corn flakes, cement, run banks and airlines. If after 60 years and billions of dollars later, our armed forces can't stop a radio controlled aircraft from firing hellfire missiles, our radars not picking up enemies bogies or air force not scrambling their fighter jets to engage enemies; than we ought to consider de-clawing such a defence force, throwing all their fancy toys in a smelter and turning it into a territorial defence force only armed with light weapons.

Ms. Bushra has dared to speak what nobody could.

She has put Nawaz Shareef and PML-N in a fix. If PML-N are truly the force against establishment, as our resident mr. siddiqi says, then only mild statements wont count.

Unfortunately, our media wont jump on this story as they jumped on memogate, PML-N would not file a petition in SC, SC would not form a bench, and Nawaz would not run to SC to testify.

    ^^^ runaway bhai,

When was the last time COAS and DG ISI were made to submit written responses to a petition in SC? If taking on the establishment was such a walk in the park, why didn't Ilzam Khan approach the SC since he was the first one who made the loudest of noises on this issue? As for Bushra Gohar, she in her own individual capacity can easily file a petition in SC to seek answers from Pasha.

They were 'made' to submit because they 'wanted' to submit.

    Samajh aaye aapko.

No now she should submit on her own.. And the biggest political party , lion of Pakistan, the one and only leader who can bring establishment and army under control will just sit on the sideline.

This is indeed a big achievement. Hopefully Army will slowly get used to staying in barracks , the bigger question is how to stop people like Zardari, NS, Altaf from damaging the nation , is there anyone who can be the eyes and ears ? media and parlialment and even our awam they are all useless......Police and Intelligence all corrupt , how long can the Judiciary keep itself honest and sincere ?

    @Runaway,

    >>They were 'made' to submit because they 'wanted' to submit<<

And I'm sure that you evidence to back this contention of your's? It is not just the duty of PML (N) but every Pakistan to bring establishment and army under civilian supremacy.

@doctor... why are u giving it a spin ... we should salute her for her principled stand ...

I quote from DG ISI response response

"Having seen these means of communication used, I was satisfied that he had enough corroborative material to prove his version of the incident,” the ISI chief said.

The emmphasis is that he was satisfied...based on his satisfaction our army chief got resignation from HH for proper investigation...

Due to MI own submission Pasha has become prejudiced,(since he si supposed to have requested Middle Eastern Govts. to give a green signal to sack AAZ) therefore we cannot expect a fair enquiry against HH in DG ISI presence... therefore he should resign in the spirit of justice and fair trial

the prime minister should take resignation from pasha ...for a fair enquiry...into pashagate

i think the military establishment is in on the defensive 1st time in the last many weeks ...now that they are question about their own wrongdoing ... that is why 3 hour long meeting between army chief and PM ...to iron things out...they have open communication lines which is also kindoff the only silver lining

i do not see any othre option for the establishment but martial law...supreme court has already ruled out that treason charges under article 6 can only be brought abt by federation.. and military cant afford a martail law now

The president n PM have dug in their heels too...there wont be any resignations which was the best way out of this empasse as far as establishment is concerned..

PPP is ready for a martyrdom yet again and that will absolve them of all the mismanagement of the last 4 years...

Politically PPP and AAZ have been given new life due to this " chai kee piyalee ka toofan"
