Authorities in China have banned commercial advertisement during TV dramas. The aim is to discourage blatant commercialization of society and to make TV shows conform to 'public aspirations'.

Pakistan is also increasingly becoming a very consumption oriented commercialized society. Our media the is primary contributor to this trend with insane amount of advertising. Such advertising is not only having a negative impact on household budgets but also creating an atmosphere where consumption is given preference over saving. The social consequences, especially for less well-off segments of society have been devastating.

So perhaps Pakistan can do well by following Chinese example in this regard.

  3. They also started airing less stupid and vile reality shows. This nonsense is ruining our society, but continues apace.
