What do you think??
People in Pakhtunkhwa are already raising questions, how come all this happened?
India is too wicked, we can't rule out this possibility.
Even if something was engineered by India, it is our fault to be so unprepared.
Does anyone knows the route of the flood???The route of this flood was from Afghanistan river Kabul and also from River Indus western part which India is not allowed to Control and another thing is that Heavy rains in Pakistan was also PREDICTED before this flood as well...So instead of searching conspiracy theory in every issue...

Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@nota: Here's a video for you. You doubted the ability, capability of 'dams' in dealing with the recent flood.
WAPDA/PEPCO officials or expert themselves say the flood water could have been stored, and most of the damage from this past flood could have been stopped from happening.

Is (sarcasm) Mr. never-wrong (/sarcasm) going to own up to his mistake ? Let's hear it.
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@nota: I found some more stuff on floods and water related stuff.
What is your email address ? Someone has shared a doc. I'll send you the link(s).
@hk
"Is (sarcasm) Mr. never-wrong (/sarcasm) going to own up to his mistake ? Let's hear it. "
After FOUR WHOLE MONTHS this is the best you could come up with? A silly "green" debate on Geo is your "proof" (funny thing is, it doesn't even talk about the issue you claim it does. You trying to pull a fast one? VERY SILLY of you!!!)
"@nota: I found some more stuff on floods and water related stuff."
And after FIVE MONTHS you want to provide me with some silly stuff? Whatever you have post it HERE (unless it is "Top Secret!" Then you better keep it under wraps ;-) )
P.S. I think the thread you are looking for -- the one you got such a whooping that it STILL BURNS after months is this one:
Flood Killed 1000nds in Pakistan
;-)
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
Having some idea of how you conduct yourself, I expected this response. Here's what I found on another forum. A member says;
recently, I have been working on a research project named "Pakistan Flood Control System".
I have designed a flood control system for Pakistan, that can handle upto 50% bigger floods than 2010 floods.
all the flood water can be stored for futur use.
and...it doesn't need the "k word", Kalabagh dam.here is the draft

http://www.filefactory.com/file/b45c3be/n/PFCS1.0.17.pdfyour suggestions/feedback is appreciated
There's more where this came from
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
Furthermore, he says;
--------------------------------------------------------
I have presented PFCS at multiple concerned locations in Pakistan last month and feedback was very positive.
here is one link of my lecture at "One Day Colloquiam on Water Crises and Choices: A post-flood Scenario" at Agriculture University Faisalabad on 1/10/2011.
University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan -> Golden Jubilee Celebrations
there is much more, but I would keep it confidential.
Upgrades:
I'v designed a Mega dam for Sindh, with a capacity to command Sindh (and possibly Balochistan) in carry over role. Capacity wise, there is "no limit" to its size, cuz it can carry up to 53.7 MAF water with a high dam, but 10-15 MAF will be really cheap and enough for several hundred years.
"Bhit Dam" can play an important role of carry over dam for Sindh Province (and possibly Balochistan).
Bhit Dam site is situated behind Manchar lake and it can make a grand lake up to 53.7 MAF.
a practical and economical choice is 120 m deep lake, which can hold 10 MAF water.
This size needs 130m high and 6 km long dam wall @ lat 26.2590, long 67.5136
Construction volume will be half of Akhori dam, so it won't be a problem.
proposed lake is surrounded with multiple layers of hill ranges on both sides, which makes it safer and stable.
How to fill this lake is something that makes this project unique. reservoir is situated 67 to 187 m above Manchar lake. Under construction water pumping station in New Orleans, USA has capacity of 20000 cusecs. Bhit reservoir's optimal need will be much smaller if we spread the filling time by Co-ordinating with big reservoirs upstream and using manchar lake as intake reservoir. it will give Manchar a new life too. Electricity from national grid or Thar's coal or its byproduct disel can be used as energy source to make this happen. eventually, this used energy can be recovered downstream as hydroelectricity while using the stored water. more efficient pumps mean less running cost.
other option is high level canal and syphon tunnel from Soan reservoir to deliver Sindh's water effortlessly without river bed losses or illegal water theft. China has already constructed tunnels at this scale, and we can make use of their skill.
While our neighbour India is working on much larger and complex NRLP for efficient use of water. we need to evaluate our options.
Dam can hold some rain run-off to back-up the manchar lake.
It can command existing and new areas in Sindh to make best use of water share and flood water.
The Bhit Dam...

latest version of project is here PFCS1.0.35.pdf
it doesn't contain the details of Bhit dam mentioned above due to its role about flood, but next version will have it in there.
here is the blue print of Pakistan flood control system, for those who don't have time to download the entire document.

God bless Pakistan
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
I haven't yet gone through it myself, though. Thought I'd share it with everyone.
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@nota: Go through it. I welcome your feedback.
I welcome every Pakistanis' feedback on this. In-fact I welcome everyone's feedback on this, as long as it is constructive.
Dear Haris Sahib,
I have worked in a survey project for two year with British consultants in 1989 and have visited the whole area from Manchar to Gaj River which traditionally feeds Manchar. A Gaj Dam project was proposed by same British Company in a similar survey project in 1960s. Gaj Dam is very much feasible and is on the agenda of Wapda.
http://wapda.gov.pk/htmls/naigaj.htm
But the dam you are talking about is not possible because of the topography of the area. Manchar lake is at the foot of Laki and Khirthar mountain range. River Indus is linked with the lake by two canals Aral Canal and Danistar Canal. Water can not be stored in huge quantity due to level of that area.
Having said that only Gaj dam could be very useful. I have driven through the bed of Gaj River in winter (when it was dry). It is a very wide river and its bed was very wide more than a kilometer I think. So Gaj Dam can be built and could be very useful but with limited capacity.)
Salient Features 194 ft high Earth Core Rockfill Dam will create gross storage of 0.30 MAF and this storage will be used to irrigate 56,740 acres of land with high efficiency irrigation system alongwith hydropower generation of 4.2 MW.
There are also possibilites of other dams in Sindh at Chotiari, Guddu and Hamal Lake. But who will do it. Wapda will not do it.
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@pakistani47: (sarcasm) Couldn't you have thought up of something "more smaller" than this ? (/sarcasm)
HK,
When you have no technical or logical response then you call it sarcasm.Whereas you can call it irony but not sarcasm. Very disappointing.
@pakistani47
Very informative indeed. Gaj Dam: Feasible and on Agenda but why WAPDA will not do it?
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@pakistani47: Your thinking, your example is "too small" for me to even bother to look at it.
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@pakistani47: Thinking small has gotten us nowhere in the past 60+ years.
Its high time we/Muslims started thinking "big".
@HK
"@pakistani47: Your thinking, your example is "too small" for me to even bother to look at it?"
@pakistani47
In other words, HK is admitting he is a clueless d!mwit (and knows it, thus hides behind the "I'm a super genius" fascade to buttress his own self image).
He thinks just because he put up BIG sat. images from Google, he must have an incredible mind.
BTW: His heart's in the right place but his brains...you know where... ;-)
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
Let's bring down the rhetoric, and focus on the "facts based talk", the "constructive talk", shall we ?
@HK
"Let's bring down the rhetoric, and focus on the "facts based talk", the "constructive talk", shall we ?"
Facts? You won't know if facts hit you in the face, as clearly demonstrated....
Is this what you call "bring down the rhetoric, and focus on the facts"?
1. "(sarcasm) Couldn't you have thought up of something "more smaller" than this ? (/sarcasm) "
2. Putting up something that you admit "I haven't yet gone through it myself" and yet swearing it is correct and demanding everyone accept it as a valid soluton!
3. "@pakistani47: Your thinking, your example is "too small" for me to even bother to look at it."
(and tons of examples in the other thread)
;-)
Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
@nota: Here we go again, with the small vs. large dams/water storage units discussion.
We are not gathered here to read your "grovelling" about that which is impossible. We are here to face up to the impossible, face forward, to say to it "nothing is impossible".
You want to build 4 MW power generating small water storage units all across Pakistan for a population of 180 million that is "increasing" ?
(1) Will it be enough to "sustain" demands of local industry in the present, as well as in the future ?
(2) How many of those are you going to build ?
(3) Which and how many of them will be ready in your lifetime to sustain the "level" or "amount" of "progress" you or I or other citizens of Pakistan "plan" to power our plans of progress with ?
(4) What is our time-line here ?
Let's be practical. Let's not ignore/sideline the "necessity" of large dams/water storage units, just because I won't submit to your ego. Your ego is useless, meaningless, worthless, it is irrelevant when it comes to affairs of our collective.
This should be the first and last time I should need to tell you, neither I, nor any other human being in this collective, who cares about their freedom, they will never submit to your ego. The more you project it, the more we will repel it.
Learn to limit your discussion to constructive talk, one based on facts, towards the direction of achieving the "undoable", the so-called "impossible" goals.
The reason we are here on this forum, in the Current Issues category, is to bring our intellect together to find ways;
(1) to achieve results
(2) for doing that which is considered impossible
to do that something significant which will help enable our collective to continue building the present as well as focus on the next generation of "progress", prosperity for our people.
I repeat: We are not gathered here to read your "grovelling" about that which is impossible.
@S.E.Mirza,
Thanks Mirza Sahib for acknowledging it. Why Wapda will not do it reply is already their. People with attitude of HK are policy makers in Wapda that is why they will not do it. Such projects are on agenda for last fifty years. I have chance to work with them on behalf of Consultants Mot Macdonald International on a project known as Lower Indus Region Right Bank Master Plan. The RBMP was put forward in 1990 and hundreds of projects were proposed but I can not see a single project completed.
@hk
"I repeat: We are not gathered here to read your "grovelling" about that which is impossible. "
I really do not need to "grovel" about anything for your stup!dity is announcing itself with a bullhorn -- repeatedly ;-)
