Badmash MQM mpa Dr Mohammed Ali Shah threatened to send Pakistani squad back home if they didn't accepted him to be flag bearer during the opening ceremony of CW games. Normally most countries assign their gold medalist to be flag bearer,we had weight lifting gold medalist Shuja-udin Malik, the event organizers expected him to be flag bearer as is the normal practice, his name was being projected on tv during live transmission of opening ceremony but actually at the last moment Dr Mohammad Ali Shah threatened the whole squad that he should be allowed to be flag bearer or else he'll send the squad packing back home..

Weightlifting team or maybe the whole squad is currently contemplating and thinking of returning back home because of disrespectful and contemptuous attitude of Dr Shah towards them.

Pak CWG contingent hit by controversy

NEW DEHLI: Pakistan Commonwealth Games squad has been hit by a controversy over leadership of the squad during the march-past at the opening ceremony, Geo News reported Sunday.

Gold Medalist weightlifter Shuja ud Din Malik was to lead the squad but at the last moment Chief de Mission Dr Mohammad Ali Shah took the flag.

During live broadcast of the ceremony, name of Shuja ud Din Malik was also displayed as the leader of the contingent.

Rashid Mehmood, an official of weightlifting team, told Geo News that Dr Shah has threatened to send the squad back home.

Shuja-udin Malik the gold medalist weightlifter from Pakistan.

All the media including the coverage on internet about CW games opening ceremony Dr Shah's pic is being projected while the caption and headline reads

"Shujauddin Malik, a weightlifter, is leading the Pakistani contingent"

    MQM will take notice

He is a very much well connected Badmaash,no action would be taken,i can assure you.

In fact forcefully snatching, threatening, bullying and intimidating don't even count as crime in MQM's books so they would not even bother to take notice,in fact on the contrary they would pat on his back saying

"Shabaash, you snatched the flag and represented us at CW games and you're a role model for other MQMized goons."

Muhammad Ali Shah’s cheap stunt embarrasses Pakistan

    by Taimur Sikander

Pakistan was provided with yet another embarrassing moment on the world stage, this time courtesy of the country’s chef-de-mission at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where Dr Muhammad Ali Shah pulled off something that can only be described as a cheap stunt.

For all those who missed the glittering opening ceremony of the Games yesterday, here is what happened: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) had decided over a month ago that Shujauddin Malik, the country’s gold medal winning weightlifter at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, would lead the Pakistan contingent during the ceremony. It was an honour well deserved for a man who not only won gold but also scripted his name in the record books for his 2006 effort. But as the ceremony started yesterday and teams strode into the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium one by one, the Pakistani contingent despite receiving the most rousing reception out of all the participating nations, experienced a moment of great embarrassment. It wasn’t Malik who was seen carrying the flag and leading out the contingent but instead, it was Dr Shah – despite TV screens around the world displaying the name ‘Shujauddin Malik’. Fine, one thought. ‘maybe Malik wasn’t feeling up to it.’ But only moments later when people saw Dr Shah pushing aside Malik as cameras rolled, it was clear what the actual deal was.

After the ceremony was over, weightlifting team manager Rashid Mehmood came on air and revealed that Shah had told Malik that it was the chef-de-mission’s right to lead the contingent as he was the ‘senior’ most out of all the personnel. Malik also came on air moments later and made another shocking revelation. He claimed, Shah after a tussle over the flag minutes before the opening ceremony, had threatened to send the weightlifter home if he did not respect Shah’s decision.

I don’t know what’s more shocking, the insult meted out to the country’s unsung hero, who despite a lack of facilities and even proper shoes remains the most likely medal hope at the Games or Dr Shah’s claim that it was his right to lead the contingent. How he has earned that right is anyone’s guess. But it seems investing in a few club level cricket tournaments, jousting like a knight after a female sprinter achieved the unthinkable and criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board while being a part of the same setup, gives him the right to publicly humiliate a national star along with the whole nation in a desperate effort for airtime.

Malik also revealed that he had controlled his emotions for Pakistan’s sake even as he was pushed and shoved into the background. After the incident, the weightlifting team had threatened to pull out of the games unless Shah apologised but later decided that it was best for the country’s image that they stay put. The Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) has announced it would be sanctioning the provincial minister over the matter. But Shah sahab has his connections, which would be enough to help him overturn POA’s decision. And we all know how much authority the POA really has. In a latest development Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has also demanded a report on the incident. I can safely predict the outcome of that: a meeting between Gilani and Shah and a press conference where the latter will apologise over the ‘misunderstanding.’ Even if Shah, in a most unlikely turn of events, is stripped of his position as Sindh Sports Minister, it will never come close to the honour Malik was robbed off.

No amount of sanctions will really make a difference now for the damage has already been done. Can we seriously expect the weightlifter to compete in the event with the same intensity after his spirit was already deflated at the starting line? Whatever the outcome, it has to be said that Pakistani athletes must be the toughest mentally contrary to the common belief around the world as these guys face the most bizarre hurdles and yet once in a while manage to bedazzle the world.

The whole incident while making a joke out of the country has also exposed the kind of mentality Shah and other people whom we thought were well-intentioned, passionate sports supporters really possess. They do it for the name and nothing else – especially not for the game.

PM takes notice of CWG flag carrying issue

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has taken a serious notice of the unpleasant incident at the opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games at New Delhi.

Gilani sought an immediate report from the Federal Minister for Sports to inquire into the incident and submit a report urgently. He directed action against any official or individual, if found responsible for the unpleasant incident.

The controversy erupted as the Pakistani squad was led by Chief de Mission of team Dr Mohammad Ali Shah. Traditionally the top athlete is honoured to carry the national flag at any sporting event. Pakistan's gold medalist weightlifter Shujaudin Malik was to be the national flag bearer of the squad at the CWG games.

It is as if Pakistan was not already embarrassed enough in the international sports arena that MQM's Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah pulls an act worthy of his party's shenanigans. According to news reports and live footage of the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games in Delhi, Pakistan's chief de mission, an MQM minister in Sindh government, snatched the national flag from the athlete and started leading the contingent. I guess Rabita Committee would have instructed him to lead the contingent and he was hell bent upon fulfilling the commands.

It is funny that Jang online earlier reported that the issue was amicably "khush asloobi say" resolved. obviously their was no issue apart from the fact that the **** wanted to lead the contingent depriving a real athlete from the honour. somebody in the jang newroom tried to portray it as a resolution. what a shame!

MQM has been promoting this guy as some kind of cricket guru in the recent past. Geo super Karachi reporters always turn to him for comments and analysis and the guys is known to make some of the most mind-boggling statements second only to the statements made by Sarfraz Nawaz.

this was just plain display of MQM's fascism.

Where I feel something wrong, I will speak up against for sure even if its some MQM waala that makes a mistake. this was a poor immature action by Mr. Shah and MQM should give an official statement on the behavior of this guy.

Well He got a lot of efforts in improving the Sports Infrastructure and specially Cricket Infrastructure in Karachi and he has always been Mastermind behind so many Tournaments happened in Karachi(Especially year ago ago Pakistan's most Expensive Tournament happened in Karachi he was one behind it along with Mustafa Kamal and Rashid Latif).....Problem of Karachi is that PCB is not much Interested in developing Cricket Infrastructure in Karachi and has always neglected players and also teams from Karachi and mostly paid attention to Punjab due to Headquartered their so in such situation Karachi Cricket has to do things on self Reliance and due to his EFFORTS of self Reliance Cricket in Karachi has never been IGNORED......His contribution for Orthopedics is also Cant be IGNORED as he is one of the Finest in Karachi and also in Pakistan if you have chance to come to Karachi ask anyone about AO clinic yourself.....So based on his Contribution and his position he is very Reputable person but even pros can also makes Mistakes just like he did in CWG......

BTW I would say that he has done very Immature thing by caring that Flag by himself and he should also be responsible for that as well but I dont Understand the reason for doing Politics on that????He did a Wrong thing which is Strictly his Actions why is MQM BLAMED for the that?????I dont think MQM might have Hatched this Conspiracy as well against Pakistani Squad at CWG.....Just imagine a Pakistani Squad didnt able to won a single medal and return back with the excuse that Muhammad Ali Shah took the Flag in his hand how awkward it would be.....I think this matter is STRICTLY based upon Code of Conduct of PSB(Pakistan Sports Board) and they should Take care of that matter instead of getting MQM in all that......

    exactly,

no one gets the right to call MQM a bunch of "thugs, terrorists, mafia" just because of this action.

Thats where I disagree with most on this forum. The bias shows to an extent that people look DUMB. This is just one person who made the mistake from MQM, why malign the whole party?

and its true he has done a lot for cricket... but his action was not good at all and I think no one will diagree with tat.

Do you know what's funny when I saw 12 o'clock news on Geo on the opening night I had a feeling that some Haters would come up with that from that very moment and now we have bunch of Haters coming up with MQM bashing out of issue that has nothing to do with MQM as a whole but a member of this party.....What is funny is that whenever Haters came up with Bashing they forget every contribution of a person as his contribution for Karachi Cricket and Orthopedics is well known and every one who has ever played well Organized Tournament of Cricket(At National Stadium or Asgher Ali SHah) in Karachi knows about that and even his Opponents also Acknowledge his Contribution as well but when it comes to Hatred everything becomes unusual as nothing.....
