Course of law for a victim of dacoity: A personal account

(12 posts)
  1. On 29th of August, I was going to my office at 11:55 pm. As I was approaching Kalma Chowk (the heart of new Lahore, roads remain busy till early morning), two bikers came from behind, one of them extended his arm, turned ignition switch off, and stopped my bike. Pointing his gun at me, he looted my mobile and purse and ran away.
The incident shook me psychologically. "How can anyone point a gun and loot my hard earned belongings, isn't that insulting," I thought to myself.
But there was still another episode to this mental torture. It started when I decided to lodge an FIR. Believe me guys, that incident took place on 29th of August, and still FIR is not registered.
First of all, police pressurises you not to lodge FIR of dacoity, they ask you to lodge FIR of simple snatching. If you insist, they start using delaying tactics.
So you can easily judge the seriousness of our police. If they are not even lodging an FIR, would they ever put any effort to catch the culprits?
It is so depressing, and frustrating. I am a journalist, I can pressurise them through other sources as well, but what would they do to any other person who does not have anyone to look up to?
I have just started hating this rotten system and society.

This is what I have been thinking all along. If anything bad happens to us in Pakistan, we are on our own. Nobody is there to help us. We the ordinary people of Pakistan are worms or even lesser in value in the eyes of the authorities.

May Allah liberate us. Hamain aazadi ata farmaye. Ameen.

It is really sad to hear this, It is no point pursuing, as the police will not do anything, neither will they catch him. We just hope and pray to Allah that the situation in our country gets better.
    May Allah protect U!

I personally believe that character of Police reflect our social character, this happened in broad day light, in middle of the road and yet no body bothered to stop or interfere? it is not that others, it is us, we don't care what is happening to others until it happens to us and when it happens to us, some little part in us want same for others...

When this kind of thing take place, we make fun of victims, the police do the same, they are not from mars, they are from our own society...

Anyway to fix this, we do need to take initiative, we do need to be aware about our surroundings, lets ask this question to ourself, how many time did we see something like that happening and chose to look other side? how many time we have seem some weak got mugged, bullied and we enjoyed it or did ignore it??? today what happened to you is result of our non-existent civic sense...and things will further deteriorate if we continue with it..

Easy to blame police, but very hard to do something by ourselves... had there been two thee cars, 5/6 motor bikers stopped asking what happening here, these snatchers, would never dare to commit such act...

It is not that easy to do something for ordinary citizens apart from participating in a SYSTEM CHANGE. Do you really think that ordinary people will bring their life in danger in the above scenario? The will not, because the robber was armed and could have used his deadly weapon. If it had been a robber without firearms, then it could have been a case for ordinary people to intervene, but don't expect ordinary people to jump into such scenes and be a messiah. This is the job of law enforcement agencies!

    From your website, "About Me":

"Interests: Misguiding people, telling them what to think and how to think about it, creating chaos, etc"

Do you care to explain about your "honorable" profession???

    @ Scandinavian,

I am not here to discuss how PTI can make changes... this is have to do more with the general civic-sense of people and less with the political affiliation...

    @Khanamer

I did not mention PTI, my friend.

You have to understand that the mentality we witness in our society, where people who are employed to service the awam, do the opposite. They make all kinds of antics to avoid giving ordinary citizens the service they have a right to. This has been the case for decades and it is only being made worse day by day. So there is a need to bring a system change to give people of Pakistan a breathing space. Law and order must IMPROVE - otherwise we will witness even more chaos!

Why surprised? this is part of our society. Every day thousands of people face the same thing. if you are a journalist you should know this better than us.
