Death Threats to Hamid Mir !

Here is Mir's email message:

Dear Friends,

I would like to inform you that I received an SMS message at my blackberry today at 11:47 pm which said "i have not seen a real **** than you. i wish somebody comes and strip you naked. i hope some Army man has not done real dirty with your dear ones." This SMS was reaction of my show Capital Talk which was going on at that time on Geo TV in a repeat telecast.

I responded to this SMS and I got another message from the same number again (03335245252). Within few seconds another SMS from 03318175319 declared me a CIA, RAW and MOSSAD agent. I have received these kinds of threatening messages usually from intelligence agencies in the past. When I responded these messages quickly and told them to go court against me they were silent.

These recent threats are related to two recent shows on Geo TV. I discussed a story in The Independent in the UK reported by Omar Warraich on December 14th and raised questions about the political role of DG ISI [Director General of the Inter Services Intelligence Directorate Ahmad Shuja Pasha]. A constitutional petition was filed by [Community Party Chairman] Engineer Jamil Malik on December 19th in the Supreme Court of Pakistan [asking the court to remove Gen. Pasha] and I was included in the petition as one of the respondents. I came to know about this petition in the evening of December 19th. The same evening I discussed the press conference of Baloch leader Attaullah Mengal on my TV show. Mengal criticized Pakistan Army atrocities against Balochis. This show was aired in the evening of December 19th and repeated in the morning of December 20th between 11 and 12.

I am sure that security establishment of Pakistan is once again angry with all those who will raise questions about the political role of Army. If anything bad happens with me or my "dear ones" the security establishment will be responsible.

No matter how biased a journalist, or anyone else for that matter, is no one has the right to threaten or harm such person.....it is the duty of the state to protect & provide security to persons and properties of its citizens...

Freedom of speech and thought should be honored by all and sundry, more so in case of government functionaries!!!

what was the proof that threanting ppl belongs to army? it cab be 3rd party..

i dont think that at this critical time (as army and ISI r under pressure) any security establishment rep wil do such act ......

anyways,God knows better.

BTW, can anyboy tell us that wat was the drop scene of Hamid Mir 's tape in which he was talking with punjabi taliban an giving him info?

This is of course NOT acceptable, but there is no concrete proof that ISI is behind this. Couldn't it be a foreign power, who wants even further bad reputation for ISI?

Journalists also need to address issues within their own ranks too. We have all kind of people in this field. We have journalists/experts, who are

- doing a fine job
- paid to support a certain institution
- paid to support politicians/political parties. Hamid Mir, Asma Shirazi, Qasmi, Sana Bucha have all a bad name.
- paid to support the views of foreign powers (mostly USA).

We can not tolerate death threats against anyone, but it is much desired that the journalists can do cleaning job within their own ranks too. They are certainly not holy cows, who cannot be touched!

This may not be establishment but somebody else.

Agencies must get under control by a competent political leadership. To announce a war against them is unwise. They can only be confined to the desired role IF the political leadership truly claim a moral high ground by delivering! This is the only way we can win over the bandook-wala.

I don't share the same view about HM. During the last elections he did **** League a 'favor'. Unfortunately he has a dubious character. He is different from f.ex. Sana Bachu. He does the 'trick' only in between.

These things are exposing our present politicial leadership, that how much they are greedy, opportunist and power hungry.

If ISI has not performing, you might have lost the ability to count the blasts.

About Shaikh's case I do not agree with what was presented. The reality could be totally different.

The genie is out of the lamp and it is not longer to control the media via threats unless of course you are PTV or Pakistan Radio.

The first sign that a side is losing and has lost the plot is to start issuing threats.

I am pleased that yesterday on Capital Talk, Hamid played back some of the past clippings of Imran and asked him to justify his opinion today. No leader, including Imran, is above questioning properly by the media. This is a culture that must take hold.

Whilst I still sometimes wonder why Hamid does not show better judgement when he gets involved in publicity for the Sharifs but I support him and rest of the media in their professional demand to be allowed to express themselves freely and without fear.

The cowards who threaten any citizen of Pakistan have no stake in the change that is about to hit Pakistan.

Did i understand correctly that any journalists who questions or takes a critical view of Imran Khan or PTI is dubbed as enemy and all his/her credentials go to waste? Is that it??

I consider journalists who do not put PTI and Imran through their paces as failed journalists. We need to have the balls to face hostility from a any journalist, including a killer beauty like Sana or a thick haired lady-killer like Hamid. By the way, I would like to know what hair shampoo he uses.

There should be a probe either by a parliamentary committee or a judicial probe to investigate these messages. It is the responsibility of the state to protect life & respect of every citizen in the country.
There could be a conspiracy to malign our national institutions or else somebody in these institutions is on the witch-hunt against our nationals.
No wonder then US drones attack Pakistani territory or US helicopters fly deep inside the Pakistani territory or NATO forces kill Pakistani people and there is no retaliation!

Without a shred of doubt, Hamid Mir was already considered on a list of suspected Journalists in Pakistan. Like many NGO firms, allegedly he too is believed to be on some kind of pay roll of US agencies engaged in looking after the American interests in this region. In this respect; as an Geo TV Anchor peoples have sensed it that he was doing a lot

His run of subject program in praise of PPP and allegedly highlighting certain flaws of Pak military is also taken as his craftwork where he tried to ride the PPP bandwagon of Zardari &PM are driving and are touting loud to defame the military forces for their personal gains and are glaringly seen abetting and toeing the US lines to demonize the military and ISI.

But Hamid Mir, rather than asking for some local government help and protection, he is looking outward to the West, some seven seas away knocking the doors of ‘Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)’ in America.

May it be PPP or the journalist; they feel comfortable seeking help and aid from America.

But probably he is another Saleem Shazad in making.

@StingingNettle.......to answer your question on usage of Mir's shampoo brand, well, going by the fast re-growth of his jet-black hair I would say he must be using "ISI's" recommended Gaaye Soap.....

However rumor has it that last time ISI adulterated his shampoo bottle with Veet vial and result was there for all to see, only "Phapa Kutna" Mir recovered it well by pretending to have performed Hajj...and we thought how pious he really is......

He has been playing on sticky wickets for a bit too long and now that the glue is coming off his sponsors see him gone.....

Still, no one has the right to whack him or shut him up....I would say, let the canary sing, until she loses her melody!!!

Senior Pakistani journalist Najam Sethi has claimed that he has received serious threats from state and non-state actors after he raised questions about the military’s role in politics.

He said if the threats did not stop, he would be “compelled” to name the “organisations and officials” who were responsible for them.

Mr. Sethi said during his show on Geo News channel that the organisations’ operatives were “in touch with and threatening several other senior journalists”.

The journalists did not speak about the threats before “because we did not want to destabilise things”, he said. “But the time has come when all of them should come forward and speak about it publicly.”

“This is not the age when intelligence operatives should be threatening their own civilians. A state within the state is not acceptable,” Mr. Sethi said.

Mr. Sethi’s remarks that he had been receiving “serious” threats both from the “non-state and state actors” came a week after journalist Hamid Mir claimed that he had received threatening messages from the “security establishment”.

Mr. Sethi, who is Editor-in-Chief of the weekly The Friday Times, has faced problems with the security establishment in the past too.

He recently spent several months in the U.S. following reports that he and his family had been receiving threats.

Not related to the thread topic, but might be of interest to you all. Media people are new group of villains in our society where there is no rule of law. My brother told me that the street where he is living a neighbour is using "KUNDA" for electricity. Someone complained about him to a news channel and guess what, someone from the channel came, blackmailed him, took some money and left without any report etc.

Long live Pakistan and May Allah save us from ALL TYPES OF LOOTERS

I have a distinct dislike for Seethi, I think is a mediocre charlatan who mostly talks shite BUT that is no reason to threaten him or stop him for writing what he wants to write.

The coward **** who threaten journalists lack the courage to at least own up the threat. To an opinion expressed openly and honestly , these thugs issue secret threats, that tells us about the size of the brain and their courage.

NO to the politics of threat and violence. Lets all speak against it, say it! Give your voice to it.
