This was the right time to bring the military under some sort of accountability, reduce the defence budget and publicize the wealth of army and the burden on the economy of army.

Unfortunately, the way political leadership is bending backwards to save army and air force means it will get worse.

Now the military would say, 80% of budget is not enough to safeguard our sovereignty. We need 90%. Every Kakul graduate would get a plot in DHA and BMW..and that will strengthen our defense.

Are you suggesting we have "political leadership"? I think you are taking Gilani's claim that parliament runs the army and intelligence agencies seriously... :)

Remember too that his speech to the parliament did not come till after meeting Kiyani who probably scripted it for him...

P.S. See the ridiculous spin by Kiyani:
Report: Kayani's top concern was nuke site

Defence budget to go up by 12%

The ‘stated’ defence budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012 is likely to be Rs495 billion, an increase of Rs53 billion or 12 per cent over the previous year’s ‘stated’ budget, a rate of increase that is nominally below inflation. This, however, masks actual defence expenditures in several ways, including transferring military pensions to civilian expenses and counting ‘security’ operations separately.

    We wont learn
