  1. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

Its strange. In one thread you call for not building dams. On another you berate MULLAH and talk about creating Dams.

Why this duality in your words ?

I have only talked about not building Kalabagh dam, in fact I think on the other thread I have been the most vocal supporter of Diamer-Bhasha dam.

So why do you lie brother?

    (1) Ah, sorry. You'r just against building Kalabagh Dam. Why ?

    (2) Are you against building other large dams too ? or is this a special medal you give to Kalabagh Dam alone ?

    (3) Why do you think small dams can be a substitute for large dams ?

DAWN News: Wheat procurement centres not established

Farmers are becoming increasingly anxious because thousands of tons of their produce is lying exposed under the sky and even a single bout of rainfall could ruin their toil. - File photo

SUKKUR: Wheat in huge quantity is lying under the open sky in the absence of procurement centres despite the Sindh government’s instruction for making preparations, beforehand.

Look at this madness. I can't imagine the results of this to have been going on since Pakistan was created. +OUCH!+

What’s shown in the picture is traditional grain drying still exercised in Pakistan. Grain is spread every morning and back packed into gunny bags in the evenings, the same repeated next day till it is dry and ready to be milled. A lot is lost as bird feed during this drying process.

What we lack is a proper storage system on a provincial level where grain is stored in tall silos safe from vermin and fungus. This way all gain could be purchased from farmers in time before monsoon sets in.

  6. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

The question is, why hasn't any local, provincial or federal level Govt. taken care of this issue even after 60+ years have passed since Pakistan was created ?

Especially, since agriculture sector is the foremost bread earning business for Pakistan and its people.

@achtung: ALL are not responsible. Only those who made wrong decisions, plus those who supported them in their wrong decisions, wrong actions are responsible for it.

Some of us were those who warned others of catastrophe of bad decisions, of bad actions, yet our people in their obstinacy chose to ignore them.

These people are NOT! to blame.

People have been buying milk mixed with water for decades now.

What's new is, even that mixture of milk and water is getting hard to afford for people of Pakistan.

Yet, there's total silence in our communities, our society, our country.

Price of the bigger bread is at Rs. 50. It used to be under Rs. 30.

KARACHI: Wheat flour prices have started crawling up in the open market after witnessing a downward trend.

Four days back, the 100 kg wheat bag rate was hovering between Rs2,225 and 2,250 while the 80 kg flour bag was available at Rs2,050, but prices are now touching Rs2,370 to 2,400 for 100 kg wheat bag and Rs2,140 for 80kg flour bag.

When prices of wheat in open market and flour produced by mills were falling, the retailers took a long time to pass on benefit to consumers.

However, they swiftly started charging higher prices from consumers after increase in wheat rates.

On May 1, the rate of 10kg bag of flour was Rs300, fine atta produced by mills was at Rs33 per kg, flour No 2.5 was available at Rs28 and chakki flour at Rs33 per kg.

  20. My call is for all patriotic Pakistanis:

Kalabagh Dam is a national requirement not just any provincial issue that has been blown out of proportions by the three provinces who joined shoulders blaming Punjab.

Pakistani patriots from Punjab and from Pakistan should take a serious note of this and revise their agriculture strategy with one thing clearly in mind that Sindh is chronically feudal and won't settle for any thing less that complete annihilation and suffocation of Punjab. Punjabi farmers should work on a solution to irrigate their fields with just a bare minimum of water and leave more (already) than what the power hungry waderars and sardars will ever need for their ill acquired lands.

Punjab should take a back step and allow Sindh, Pukhtoonkhawa and Baluchistan to be the future of Pakistan. Let us be self contained for God’s sake, only for once and grow, produce or manufacture to what we need because Sindhis, Pukhtoons and Baluchis think of themselves the only Pakistanis regarding Punjabis as black sheep in Pakistan.

I would have never have gone this far and called for this call, but to Punjab I would repeat, just for God’s sake wake up being Punjab forget the thaikaidari of Pakistan because Pakistan belongs to KPK, Baluchistan and Sindh only.

DAWN News: Ogra increases CNG prices

    Friday, 30 Jul, 2010

The new prices will be effective from Friday.—File photo

KARACHI: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) increased on Thursday prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs1.70 per kg for Sindh and Punjab and Rs1.73 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The new prices will be effective from Friday.

According to an Orga notification, CNG prices for Sindh and Punjab, excluding the Potohar region, have been raised to Rs55.33 per kg from Rs53.63 and those for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Potohar region (Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Gujar Khan) to Rs57.03 from Rs55.30.

CNG Dealers’ Association chairman Abdul Sami Khan said the association had sought an increase of Rs2.30 per kg because of an increase in gas price, general sales tax and electricity charges.

DAWN News: Prices of petroleum products raised by up to 9 per cent

    Monday, 01-Nov-2010
    --------------------------------------------------------

The prices of the petroleum products will be raised by up to nine per cent, sources told the Dawn. – File Photo

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) increased prices of petroleum products on Sunday by a massive Rs4.27 to Rs7.11 per litre or up to 9 per cent with immediate effect to offset impact of the rise in oil prices in the international market.

    ..continued..
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

According to sources I'v been listening to in the west, they say, price of oil is about to go up to the range of $150 - $200 in international market in the next 6 months.

This will cause a lot of problems inside Pakistan. I don't see any plans on part of Pakistan, on part of people of Pakistan for dealing with this situation.

Looks like this catastrophe will hit with full brunt on people of Pakistan, as usual, as with all other catastrophes that have hit us in the past 60+ years.
