Suicide bomber kills three in Karak Updated at: 0951 PST, Saturday, February 27, 2010
KARAK: A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a police station on Saturday in Karak, killing three including two policemen and wounding 23 others, police said.
Talking Geo News, DPO Karak said there were two suicide bombers. One blew him up at the gate of police station, killing a policeman there. Then, another suicide bomber brought his vehicle with explosives into the building and blew him up, killing a child and a coach driver.
According to the DPO, the blast was tremendously powerful which damaged the police station and adjacent police headquarters.
DCO Karak Ajmal Khan said the suicide bomber ran his explosive-packed vehicle into Karak police station this morning with a loud bang damaging the entire building.
The bodies and injured are being retrieved from the rubble and taken to District Headquarters Hospital Karak.
Following the attack, the security personnel cordoned off the affected area.
The local people said the incident is first of its kind in Karak history.
The blast also damaged a nearby mosque.
"The attacker detonated his pick up van at the gate of the main police station in Karak town," local police chief Sajid Mohmand said.
"We have received three bodies and 26 wounded," local hospital doctor Nazrul Islam said, adding that some of the wounded were in a serious condition.
The DPO said most of the staff were out of the station owing to Eid-e-Miladun Nabi ceremonies in the city.
Death toll has been reached to four.
