  3. Personally, I don't care if our "representatives" can speak english. They should proudly speak their mother tongue, be it Seraiki or Punjabi or Pushto etc. and honestly represent the people who voted them into office. Not all French representatives can speak english, not all US representatives can speak French, Not all indian reps speak hindi.

Not being able to speak english doesn't automatically imply they're "un-educated" or devoid of any intellect. Now, if they can't string an intelligent sentence together in Punjabi or Urdu or what have you, then I'd be worried. It is not lack of english speaking skills which is ruining this nation, that group which can (our esteemed bureaucracy) hasn't done much better in terms of looking out for the interests of the people whose tax money they spend like it is "unkay baap ki kamai"

    Ghost of TK

Joosh Malhi Abadi once aptly remarked,"Indians and Pakistanis are dumb nations. They don't have any language of their own. They are dependent on a foreign language their affairs." The importance of English as an international language is undeniable, but it should be applied only where it is required.

  5. How come an elected official not know English in Pakistan? It is the official language of the govt for all writing and legislation. Local languages cannot be used in assemblies, not everybody would understand them. The video also demos that these folks didn't have proper education, I wouldn't be surprised a bit if their degrees also turn out to be fake.

Have you noticed that guy who said I'm a British national....I know english...

On another note, these people have all the money and resources and still are not able deliver…

Just talk to them in person (even in Urdu) and you’ll find them ‘hilarious’. It’s not only Panjab-specific; it is same all over our God forsaken country. I’m speaking from my Pakhtunkhwa experience; they are no different.

  7. @dildar:

Agreed on your point about the un-educated minds (not just their tongues which would be the least of our problems) of our legislators.

I guess the point I was trying to make was, People should not be automatically assumed to be uneducated just because they can't speak english, even though a lack of proper education, may result in them not being able to speak english (or reason properly, or articulate ideas even in Punjabi/Pushto/Sindhi etc.)

I guess it's six of one, half dozen of the other...

Having said that , those who don't know English should NOT speak it either.

    @drgulkhan

This is a really shameful video for the channel and the poster.

English is not our mother tongue. Being able to speak English is not a requirement of being a representative of the masses. After all how many ppl in their constituency can speak English.

This vdo is not very different from others making fun of our national teams cricketers.

    well said ghostoftk

the people shouldnt have tried speaking english in the first place, they have exposed how much pride they take in speaking their own national languages...
and trying to act like "educated"(english speaking british national) is even worse and insulting himself... why is he boasting about it? and why is he even a part of pakistani assembly, cuz of double nationality, he may have conflict of interest and may not work in the best interest of pakistan? he should better pack and go to UK

English aap ka criteria hoga Degree ke asli ya nakli honey ka....
kia Punjabi MPAs achi punjabi ya urdu bol saktey hain... ya perh saktey hain or samjh saktey hain?

  13. Punjabis MPAs usually get a translation of the constitution in Punjabi for reading. Now understanding it is a different matter. Sometimes Punjabi MNAs [Khawja Asif] completely switch to Punjabi in the assembly when things get hot because at times Urdu too become a hurdle. This brings to an important pt, Punjabi is unofficially the official spoken language of Pakistani admin and estt., even Zardari had to learn it in jail. I'm just saying.

We have not yet been able to get rid of colonial masters' system and language. We have not yet developed our system and language.

Japan is the second largest economy and China is the fourth largest economy. In both of the countries, there is a meager percentage of people who can speak any foreign language.

  17. There is no reason Bahawalpur Province parliament can't conduct business in Seraiki, same goes for Multan Province. Lahore province legislators should be proud to speak their mother tongue, i.e., Punjabi. Karachi Province should have Urdu and Sindh province should have Sindhi. Makran province should have makrani as their language and Kalat province Balochi as their national/provincial language.
